- The new DAS or Disability pass at Walt Disney World or Disneyland is causing a lot of problems. Many people will no longer qualify for it. Is this going to fix the problem, or is this just a way for Disney to make more money? The lines at Walt Disney World can get really long, so will this new DAS system help?

We are done with Disney. Recent interaction was final insult. Have been going for years from Uk. Thats a 2 week holiday usually averaging about £10000 for the trip. I have 3 x metal work in right ankle and although fully mobile, when standing I very quickly am in significant pain. This is additional to the pain of having that issue and trying to navigate a park all day. I take 3 x pain meds over the day plus NSAID gel just to cope. So with that background the only way I have been able to visit is with the DAS accommodation. With the updates I enquired about this and was told the following:
1. Disney refuse to speak about this unless I buy a ticket. In UK that is illegal.
2. My partner can queue and wait for the duration and then I can join. 2 weeks spent on holiday, where only chance over the year we get to be together and supposedly half of our day we part ways and go solo.
3. I said I simply cannot do the park without accommodation, again refused to even discuss options unless I bought a ticket. In UK we buy 14 day tickets unique to the UK, this cost > £500. They expect that outlay without even knowing if I could use the ticket.
4. They say oh just buy a single day then get a refund to discuss. Thats not an option as these tickets are not refundable in the UK and if no accommodation why would I transfer to another date when still the same issue.
5. 8 of us are going but I only want the accommodation for me and partner, still no discussion.
Result all 8 of us have said 100% thats us finished will not set foot in Disney again.
Not only that, we all have Disney +, that is being cancelled too.
Reality is I don’t think they give a damn.
On the reverse, Universal’s system has been amazing, really accommodating, easy to navigate and based solely on the letter from a doctor. If my doctor states I require the accommodation who are Disney to put so many barriers in the way. I said it feels discriminatory but they say not based on US law. Bottom line people won’t be bullied into spending if they won’t meet you half way.
I am a registered nurse and the thought of abusing a system fills me with horror but was left feeling labelled as though my request was not valid. Its disgusting. I implore people to speak out about this and not accept it. Please raise awareness, if not illegal it is certainly unethical.

So Universal requires documents from a doctor to get their DAS equivalent? I'm sure my daughter would be happy to provide it. I think I'll take my $10k and plan our trip to universal.
Disney seems keen on giving these passes to people who can absolutely stand in a line but who've been told they have this or that and use those issues, issues most people have, to cheat the system and Disney seeems to encourage it!
I'm also a nurse and it infuriates me too. If anyone reading this is able to stand in a line but decides they don't want to? Buy up, get the fast pass or whatever it's called now. Don't take this accommodation away from those who actually NEED it.

It's a crazy world if people lie about being disabled to cut the line at a theme park... People claim to care about inclusivity for everybody these days but when it comes down to it too many just care about themselves
not really, the amount of parents who do the "my child is under 3" is insane.
Nobody cuts the line. And that's a pretty big "If."
For real, I have mental disabilities and lightning lanes can get so long.

When we tried to get a DAS pass for my father, who had a problem and he couldn't get one yet someone can say they have a mental issue and get away with it.
The problem is it is hard to prove or disprove a mental issue. Also, mental issues are so common now but there are those that deal with true mental issues such as a veteran that has PTSD after multiple tours over seas, being shot at daily. I am that veteran and if someone was to say my disability wasn't real because you cant see the scars then shame on you. If you are lying to save some money and cheat the system you are going to answer for that at some point and really need to take a long look in the mirror because that is disgraceful. For those like me or have other legitimate disabilities that needed this service, I am sorry that these pretenders ruined the happiest and most Magical place on earth.

Thank you for speaking about this topic! I’ve only recently found out about this situation and can barely find anyone talking about it. My family are huge Disney fans but my mom has pulmonary fibrosis and is on oxygen. This makes it difficult for many reasons for her to sit in lines all day. This has certainly put a nasty taste in my mouth and is making me start to reconsider who I’m giving my money to
Disney decided to make the DAS pass because before, people with disabilities would 'Rent their services' to non-disabled people so they could jump the line, back when as soon as you were disabled, you just went to any ride and you were the next on board. But even with the DAS pass, with all the videos now on how to obtain it and what to say, it was getting crazy because at 10 AM, you couldn't get a return time before 3PM because too many people were using it (between that and Genie+). So people actually paying for Genie+ were complaining that they were paying for a service they couldn't actually use because all the windows were taken by DAS pass holder.
I am disabled. I have very limited mobility, I am severely anemic (so I don't have a lot of energy), and I have other health issues. However, since I am in a wheelchair, waiting in line with everybody else or waiting somewhere else for my return time wouldn't make a difference per se. The only difference is, my scooter wouldn't take 5 spots in the regular queue
in France, you actually have to have a doctor's note to be able to use their version of the DAS pass. It's funny how there are LOT less 'disabled' people over there
My concern is how will disney “prove” who is lying about their disabilities? I have a very rare genetic disorder but I look healthy. I have accommodations in my regular life just to function. I have numerous accommodations in my master’s program. I use a medical alert service dog for safety. I have a central IV line directly to my heart to administer medications. I was a cast member in 2019. I have had a DAS since I was a child every time I’ve visited.
My partner and I travel just the two of us to disney. I was told that I could sit alone and meet up with my partner in the line, or leave the line and rejoin in the case of a medical episode. Thats great except during a medical episode I need him to help me administer medication.
Disney has only given me generic pre-written answers and I have made no progress in talking to a real person yet

The issue is they allow way more ppl in the parks than what the parks were designed for. And just flat really only care about profits than customer experience. I’ve been probably over 25 times in the 36 years I’ve been alive to Disney World and Parks and have notice a over change some for the better but mostly not for the better and the control over the cowards is out hand.
Myself and my son both have disabilities. We won't be going back to Disney until they get their act together in general
I feel like with all the technology now, there is no reason for anyone to stand in lines. Instead they should have large shaded areas where you sit and wait for your number to be called. Like being at the mall.
Universal Hollywood did this for their secret life of pets dark ride where it’s exclusively virtual queue to save space. Although everytime I’ve gone the line was short enough to not need it (5-10 minutes)

@@Fadescape this was the principal idea behind the original fastpass but maybe cause they couldnt see its DIRECT EXACT profit they started charging for it instead.
DAS does not equal Genie +. For instance, my favorite ride is Space Mountain and Genie + only lets me ride it once. With the DAS as it was I can ride multiple time in the day. I still had to wait the amount of time posted. Shame on those that abused this service and just disappointed in Disney for coming to this answer instead of improving the validation process. Now only children with certain types of autism qualify. I believe ADA says accommodations for all types of disabilities should be offered. I guess charging for Genie + is no different than charging to rent a wheelchair or motor scooter. Just sad. The parks are the only thing keeping the Walt Disney Company going, the cruise lines are profitable as well.
The problem is, because of HIPA Disney legaly can't verify disabilities.
Ecv wheelchairs can’t turn around for an emergency or restroom medications. Bc there is not enough room to turn around. The question is why you can’t wait in the long line well that’s why! (Wink)
My mom's got bad knees, so she can't stand or walk for too long. This could be alleviated by getting a wheelchair, but then all the sitting would aggravate her already-concerning need to have to use the washroom once every hour. As line-ups can easily go over an hour, it would make it impossible for her to wait to go on any ride. Is the DAS Pass really just limited to autism and invisible disabilities? It wouldn't hurt to at least TRY to apply for one, would it? And if we must get Genie+, will that actually reduce the wait times enough for my mother?
Autism isn’t invisible unless you’re faking it. Sounds like your mother may benefit from a rollator, whether or not she qualifies for a DAS.
No, there are physical issues that also qualify still. That was never taken away. I just came from WDW yesterday and use DAS for physical issues.

I watched other videos on this subject and many people are saying things like that it's for invisible/cognitive disabilities, but that seems like speculation as I don't think anyone's reported on what Disney has officially said, or Disney hasn't actually said specifically as it's probably a case-by-case thing anyway. It shouldn't hurt to at least attempt to apply for one, I'd imagine.
@@JonLeung1 Yes always apply. Be clear and concise about what the problem really is with standing / being in crowds. They granted my DAS last week in less than 30 seconds of talking. Mine was primarily for spinal cord issues. There was zero issue.
I have the same issue. I waited for an hour at Universal for an accomodation and was turned away. They said I could wait on line in the scooter.

It's hard enough to travel with a family member who has a significant disability. Sure glad we went 12 years ago because my husband and son had an amazing time where my husband's disability didn't impact the fun. Now, they are making it so hard. I would still consider the cruise line, where my husband could go rest and pace himself as obviously no real help from WDW is available to those who really need it. It's a very physically demanding vacation.
I doubt we'll ever return to the US Disney Parks, but we can't wait to visit Universal again!

Nobody here is "faking". In fact we don't know of ANYONE who "faked" a disability, that seems like a problem with LOCALS.
It's disgusting for Disney to automatically assume EVERY customer is a liar until proven otherwise.
Disney falsely imagines that disabilities are "rare" (the medical definition of rare is less than 2%), when 15-20% of the population have legitimate disabilities, illnesses, or medical needs.
So Disney punishes GENUINELY disabled people for the fake problem of "too many disabled people" because DISNEY HAS FAILED TO PLAN FOR REALITY.
FFS, in a country with healthcare as a LUXURY, of COURSE there will be massive numbers of untreated disabled & sick people.
Disney is also shoving too many people in the parks. Period. They are being obscenely greedy.
They have NOT built accessible, scaleable, decent resources or rides (and their legacy rides are just awful).
We are shocked, appalled and horrified that the DAS pass is now strictly an "Autism only" perk.

People who use wheelchairs or ECVs and don’t have other issues were never meant to use DAS. It’s for those who can’t wait in line.
They're not supposed to be getting it now. If you see anyone with a wheelchair using DAS, either they have additional but invisible needs, or the person who approved it broke the rules. That's one possible up side I can see to involving the third party company: knowing someone is watching might make Disney employees be more consistent in enforcing their own policies.
That’s not true I know for a fact that just because you’re a wheelchair doesn’t mean that you don’t have other illnesses that affect your ability to read in line due to medication due to stress and seizures

@TsmTye84 so I was hit by a 18wheeler which completely shattered my left side. *hip,femur,tibia,shoulder,back* all completely messed up. Was originally told I'd never walk again. But I'm currently in a state where I csn stand but not for very long. So yes I can see some situations where a person may be able to stand but not be able to stand for a 1+ in a line
Just require medical documentation from a third party. No more lying
As a family with persons who qualify for this service, we thank Disney Co.
People with special disabilities who are first time guests who do not know about the service are forced to be in those long lines and can cause tense moments for themselves and to on lookers.
They need to add garunteed wheelchair support to DAS.
Also make fast pass or genie or whatever you call it free forever .
Absolutely no consumer cost for fast passes EVER .
I don’t understand why Disney doesn’t just require people to show a disabled parking placard IDENTIFICATION CARD to get a DAS Pass. It would prove the person has a proven disability or mobility problem since each state requires a doctors note to be given one and it has the persons name and birthdate so people couldn’t swipe their grandmothers. I’m not taking about the placard, I’m talking about the ID card that comes with the placard you can show as proof that the placard belongs to you if an official asks for it.
Not everyone with a disability needs a placard. Some people can walk, but not stand or sit for long periods of time, which obviously doesn't require a placard.
I don't get it. I understand the theater rides where you sit and nothing moves... But if in wheelchair because you have a bad neck or bad leg, why are you trying to get on a ride that can affect your problem even worse?

Unpopular fact..all qeues are ADA accessible except for big thunder mountain. Das was never meant for mobility concerns. The abuse of it was obvious. People will still lie. People will still abuse it. I hope they go the route of Universal and require an ibcess card. I hate to say it but if youre too infirm to wait in a line, you're probably too infirm to ride the ride you're trying to avoid the line for. I said what i said.
Not all disabilities are about mobility. Some are things that can cause serious panic - like diverticulitis. When you have that and you feel the need to go to a restroom, it is urgent and the "get out of line and then back in the same place" thing also causes anxiety. Invisible disability is hard for a lot of people to understand but when you try this method that Disney wants to now implement, other people in line will block you, curse you, even physically restrain you from going back. I agree that some misused it but others truly needed this to enjoy their time in a park And now I have said what I said.
This sucks for people like me who have a disability that ISN'T Visible. I have legitimate reasons. I even have a placard
About time!! I feel so sorry for the people that actually need it but unfortunately the fakes have ruined it for those people. I know so many people in my work who have abused the system over the years
With the old fast pass system you could only book 3 rides per day; with Genie+ you can book 9-10 per day. It’s worth it. Perhaps Disney could build shade canopies for all lines that extend outdoors so the lines don’t get so hot in the Florida sunshine 🤷♀️ that seems like a reasonable way to deal with a large swath of people who struggle with heat related issues and use DAS for that. Something has to change and I’m glad to see Disney cracking down on this abuse

Not entirely true, fastpass allowed for 3 rides then when they were used up you could book one more at a time as you used them up so we used to get up to 9-10 or even more easily. Genie plus only allows you to book 1 lightning lane every 2 hours or when you use the previous one. We found it very difficult to get to the same level of rides ridden with genie+ compared to the fastpass system.
@@whitaswhit I had the opposite experience 🤷♀️ all the good rides booked up 60 days out. I love genie plus because it levels the field, but that’s just my opinion
It's unfortunate some people will work the system to benefit from what they know is a lie. There are too many people who truly need these benefits who might not get them now based on the new restrictions.
Hi red! Sometimes I randomly find me with these comments sections so I figure I’ll say hello! I think this new policy that they’re trying to push is rather discriminatory in my opinion doesn’t your friend needs disability pass considering his condition I’m sure he can’t stand in long lines, right? My niece has pulmonary fibrosis, which means the cells in the lining of her. Once have been damaged and scar tissue has formed, which means that it can’t carry oxygen to the blood anymore which restricts breathing and requires oxygen. Who are you OK sometimes the tank needs to be you know plugged in when you have portable oxygen and so we have to be somewhere where there’s an outlet and asked to be very nearby and she doesn’t like to do breathing treatments in person either. It’s in our front of everyone and it’s quite embarrassing for a young person and they shouldn’t have to share with her breathing treatments either in the nurses station or a bathroom if they do have an outlet but usually it’s in the nursing station so she’s waiting for her return time we sit near the nurses station and just wait, and sometimes even when we were turned in the line. The line is still too long. I want in my mind so we have to get on the line and she can’t be alone so someone always Hass to be with her anyway I don’t agree with her new disability policy. I think it’s rather discriminatory. It’s really sad they really should be going by the symptoms and why people can’t stand in line and not the diagnosis. Anyway I hope you’re doing well. I hope you’re all doing well and the doggies are doing well. I was gonna go to Pixar Fest next week but the airline tickets out of Sacramento to Southern California are like over $200 one-way for one person so that’s not gonna work for us unfortunately and I can’t drive due to my own disability. I can’t drive over seven hours to get there from here so we’re not going. I probably won’t be back to Disney until the end of September.
@@Dolcevita_bakes we have never used the Das pass because we know others need it more. If the wait times are too high, we just do something else with lower wait times. I know he was eligible but I always worry about others needing it more. I do think the new rules will prevent people from getting it who really do need it.
I worked at Magic Kingdom in the mid seventies. For disabled people they had ONE choice. An Everett and Jennings manual wheelchair and they could wait in the shade while the rest of the family or entourage waited in the line til they got to the boarding point at which time they would be rejoined. Fair for everybody. Of course that was when everyone at WDW was treated THE SAME.
And now there are current cast members lying to get disability services.
What about solo travelers? They can't "rejoin" their group since they are the group. Is it fair to be left out because you are alone?
They offer the genie plus and it works great especially if you’re traveling solo.
How can Disney “prove” If someone doesn’t have a disability? If you were to look at me, you wouldn’t know that I have extreme back pain and can near faint if I’m on my feet longer than 30 minutes. Especially in California weather. What is Disney going to do, ask everyone for a doctors note?
I heard it is done on a case by case and you want to fill out the paperwork well in advance before you go.
DAS is just making sure. Same rules.
So how go they handle wheelchairs or ECVs now in Disneyland when you don’t have a DAS pass? I need a wheelchair or ECV. I’m bringing my own wheelchair to Disney when I go. I guess I’m confused because with Disneyland, don’t wheelchair users still have to go in the exits to get to the ride?

I am planning a trip to Disney World in 2025 from Ireland I have used the european version in Paris before Covid it was required that you bring a medical cert to quailfy for the pass. I hope i can quailfy under the new rules but if i dont i dont and that understandable! Really enjoyed the video ❤

ADA prevents them from DIRECTLY asking about thier disabilty (what is your diagnosis/symptoms) but asking hlw can we help is not against the rules.
Yes most lines are wheelchair accessable so asking for a DAS pass due to mobility ALONE wont be easily granted but getting aditional fast passes or an "exit pass" .for less accesable ridez should be an instant yes.
Six Flags uses a third party for there disability system and I use it and if I ever went to Disney I would need it because my back hurts and I have to take breaks during the day and going up to que lines and also have autism
I wouldn't really worry about the vague threat of a "ban". Lets be honest there is almost no way they could ever prove it one way or the other without risking a legal lawsuit. Even if you are "banned" I don't think they could really keep you out assuming some one else in your family pays for the tickets or you pay with cash instead of a credit card.
They literally assign a fingerprint to your name and tickets.

People with mobility issues (not wheelchair / scooter) or cannot stand long CAN get the DAS service still. Confirmed this just today as my trip is at the end of May and I use a cane. DAS was accepted.
the changes take effect people requesting may 20th and later you were approved because its not in effect yet
@@cocorunny6597 I was there after May 20th and had to redo the application for my final two days. Mobility issues are still supported for people that cannot stand long. They even tell you they support people with mobility issues. Stop listening to these losers that have no clue.

I agree that it is going to be a relief for the cast members to have it be done ahead of time and by a third party.
However, I have Lupus and GBS ♿ Being in a motorized scooter is great, I bring my own. But I cannot sit in the sun. I will have to buy Genie + which I do anyway to make a more pleasant day. Fine. They better be prepared for more people carrying parasols.
But: soapbox rant: It's the disability tax. People pretend it doesn't exist. But it is seriously more expensive to be disabled. My income dropped by 70% and mobility equipment is expensive. Medicare doesn't cover squat. It took me months to save for my scooter and years to save for the dentures I'm getting next week in Mexico because I can't afford American prices. I'll simply have to save longer for Disney trips and only go in Winter 😂
Genie + and DAS are not interchangeable programs. Lightning lanes sell out for the day whereas DAS basically puts you at the back of the line as if you were waiting. One on hand, this is cause and effect. There are several families who did not know about DAS until they had to pay for Genie +. When you had fast pass for free families with disabled members just used that because they didn't know about DAS. Also, has Disney said that certain people will not be covered? I understand the handicapped accessible lines but there are several people who cannot wait in lines because of the heat or humidity, not just the standing. That can't be solved with a scooter. Has disney said this won't be covered now? They said they're making changes but haven't specified what will be denied from anything I read. My suggestion is to keep applying and if you're denied, then complain until they change the policy.
That’s a good point. I’m sure it’s a wait and see thing right now. The heat is definitely a problem if you’re sitting or standing. You’re right, just ask and see what they say.
The problem is you can’t interview until 30 days ahead of your visit and by then you risk losing money on travel and After Hours or other event tickets. The parks are just too crowded to serve people, all people, well.
From speaking with guest services cast members at WDW not much is changing they are just taking the responsibility of dealing with DAS and moving it to a third party that has more training in these kinds of issues, yes pure mobility related issues will probably not qualify for DAS now because almost all ride queues are accessible in standby line. As a person whose spouse suffers from an issue covered by DAS I appreciate that they are trying to make it more fair, the purpose of DAS is to come up with an accommodation to solve your disability issue as best as can be. I do agree if you broke your leg and you’re just in a wheelchair you don’t really need to have DAS, that’s why they focused in on the autism and other mental disorders because that was more of the goal of DAS in the first place, obviously there will be exceptions but I find most people utilizing DAS truthfully are thankful for these upcoming changes
Mobility related issues already don't quailify for DAS.
@@ttintagel honestly it just depends on the cast member doing the das, I have seen several people with cast on their legs or other clearly physical ailments and being allowed a DAS

@@ttintagel yes I other circumstances, but when I am behind them in line waiting and overhear the conversation and that is the only ailment then it is kind of hard to think otherwise

The ban rule isnt new
Unfortunately, people will find a way to get around Disney’s new system. The ban for life is not gonna stop the people that are going just one and done. Not really a Disney fan used I used to be they just don’t have enough intense thrill rides to justify the park price for me.
I can't imagine they can enforce bans. Like they're really going to take photos of every single person they ban, and then compare them to every single one of the thousands of people that stream in every single day. It might be easy for some staff to remember a troublesome person for a day, but give it a month and do your hair a different way and no one will remember. (Apparently, the fingerprint scanning at Walt Disney World is just related to preventing the transfer of tickets, and the data isn't stored, so that can't be a way to block banned people, at least the way that it is. And apparently, that fingerprint scanning can be circumvented with photo ID instead, and it's probably easy to get a fake one of those.) So-called lifetime bans are impossible to enforce.

I think Disney just worded things vaguely, and will look at each individual on a case by case basis. As someone who suffers from a rare liver disorder this pass is a lifesaver for doing the parks! Without it I will just go to Universal where I was verified with my social security letter with their third party. I can’t even do the parks all day Lightening lane wouldn’t be worth it for me.
It gets complicated because just because somebody has a neurodevelopmental condition doesn't mean that DAS is necessary or the appropriate support. Personally, I'm fortunate enough that I can generally just avoid going to the parks when it's too hot, and I wear ear plugs and sunglasses the entire time. Which, for me, is enough, but for others it might not. Given that DAS doesn't really do much other than allow you to have a virtual queue of sorts via the come back time, I don't think that it would make sense for me to have a pass.

Every time I’ve been there I see 20 people following a kid with a cast on his arm. Absolute nonsense. It has nothing to do with Genie. Your family is not what it was meant for. Period. Disney’s side is they overcrowd the parks to begin with.
That shouldn't ever have been a permitted reason for getting one. The first time I went to Disneyland, I had a broken arm, and apart from wrapping the arm in a plastic bag for Splash Mountain, there were no accommodations required. A broken leg though could require some accommodations, although in that sense, there's still not DAS required as a leg in a boot or a cast is self-evident to the cast members if there's a logistical issue with them standing in line.
my son is severely Autistic and we never had a problem getting DAS. Granted it’s been two years since we have been. if someone lies they should be banned.
People are freaking out about it, and since it's gone live most of the people I've seen getting denied are people that never needed DAS to get accommodations. DAS was specifically for things like autism where it might not be obvious that waiting in line was a problem until after the meltdown. So, folks got a card to show the cast members running the ride so that there weren't the sorts of inconsistencies that would arise from expecting them to make those decisions on the spot. Folks with mobility issues often wouldn't require the pass as it's obvious enough that if their in a mobility scooter and it doesn't fit in the queue that there's an accommodation to provide.
There were liars. But people who weren't are not going to be able to visit. a friends kid with anxiety. Many of the same reactions and behaviors as her brother with autism. She won't be able to qualify and he doesn't always go.

No, ADA applies to the parks and did well before DAS was introduced. This is a narrowly defined support for people that can't wait in lines. There are other supports provided for people with mobility issues including queues that are wide enough to fit mobility scooters, come back times for when that isn't the case, and special cars like the wheel chair boat for It's a Small World. Most recently, a large chunk of why the queue was redone for the Haunted Mansion was to make it more ADA accessible for folks in scooters and wheelchairs.
One of the big issues is that it is a Disability support, it's just much more narrow than what people think and it's just an add-on to the regular ADA supports. Arguably, it's a reasonable accommodation for certain disabilities, and not all disabilities require it.

This really sucks because I have cerebral palsy and can't stand for long periods of time and so with them readjusting DAS it ends up hurting people who really have disabilities. Let's be honest this is all stemming from greed on Disney's part. Had they not changed the fastpass system people wouldn't be trying to find ways to juke the system.

We went to Universal for quite a few years and ignored Disneyworld when Wizarding World opened up in both parks. We are big Harry Potter fans. I guess we will be going to Epic Universe for a few years until Disney learns their lesson to not piss off customers.
The other thing that Universal does better is how they handle their express lines. It's a lot more expensive, but you know exactly what you're getting. You get either one use per covered attraction, or unlimited number of uses per attraction depending upon which one you get. But, on the whole, I think that Universal has faster loading rides. There's mostly just a few super-popular ones that have obscene wait times, but most of the rides are pretty good.
Do you not use genie plus do not give didn’t Disney your money they are not allowed to charge you for an accommodation to enjoy the same accommodations as other able-bodied people by having to pay for it. It’s against the ADA laws it is illegal I know this for a fact because my cousin is an attorney and stated the same thing and if you give Disney money and you give in and say yeah here I’ll pay for this because I am disabled and I need an accommodation and you’re pretty much saying it’s OK with what they’re doing. Don’t ever give Disney any extra money for stopping over your disability rights it’s really disturbing and anyone would even consider paying for Janet Placer lightning lane when they are disabled when it’s something that you should be given as an accommodation or Disney’s doing is wrong I suggest putting off your trips if you really need that pass and they deny you and wait to see if they get sued because I do think it’s coming and I think eventually they’re gonna have to get on the same route. The universal is going, which will be asking for people to provide a doctors note. I think the only reason why disney doesn’t want people providing a doctors note is because they know that most people who are disabled, probably have one..

The problem there is that DAS is a very specific accommodation for disabilities that make it impossible to wait in the lines. If you don't have a disability that requires that, then they are completely within their rights not to give it to you. Due to the theming, a lot of the queues are more constrained and noisy than they would be if they weren't constrained by the theming elements to install more sound deadening materials.
I do expect there will be lawsuits over this, I just don't expect them to be won unless there are people being denied DAS for disabilities for which waiting outside the queue is a reasonable accommodation. As incompetent as many of the decisions lately have been, I do suspect that they had some lawyers involved in drafting the policy.
People with these serious problems shouldn't be a theme park. Or people claiming these problems shouldn't be at theme parks. My opinion. It makes it worse for everyone else visiting the park and causes a huge inconvenience.
You have no idea just how much louder the queues are than the rest of the park. Being in the rest of the park and dealing with the noise does wear my batteries down, but the noise the some of those enclosed queues is deafening. And whether or not we should be at a theme park, we do have a legal right to go, as long as we pay our money and follow Disney's rules they can't discriminate on the basis of disability.
As a child who is autistic and has severe anxiety this pass is a life savor but you see alot of people abusing it!
How do you know you're seeing people abuse it? You of all people should know that not all disabilities are visible.
@@ttintagel That's what I've been wanting to know. I see a lot of people claiming that it's being abused, but in most cases, you're flat out not going to be able to tell just based on appearance. There are a lot of autistic adults that "don't look" autistic. And that's part of why most autistic adults aren't diagnosed. We don't look like people's 5 year old nephew, so we didn't get evaluated.

I get severe anxiety and will go into panic attacks. Not pretty. My doctor knows about this side effect from an illness I have. Now am I supposed to convince someone who is not a doctor about my illness and problems it causes???
Just bring proof it’s not that hard or much trouble. Do you get those attacks waiting in line to get the pass? Just asking because those lines are pretty big as well .
I have extreme anxiety as well and standing in a line is absolutely not an option however, I am choosing to go to a park, which is a big privilege and they do offer Genie plus. It Is absolutely worth the money.

Disney could be riding the fine line of Hipaa Laws. A Real fine line. But you are correct people are using the system and not the ones that need it.
HIPAA stands for Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. Passed in 1996 HIPAA is a federal law that sets a national standard to protect medical records and other personal health information.
HIPAA does not apply in any way to this situation.
@@Mel12611 Some might think HIPAA applies if Disney is asking for medical proof but if Disney uses a third party medical company than that company can verify the medical history and it would be on them to safe guard those records. I don't see how else HIPAA would apply. the ADA would be more relevant in this situation.

It depends on what your needs are.
If it doesn't impact your ability to wait in line, then you shouldn't get DAS access. DAS is a pretty limited program for the problem of not being able to wait in line. You still have to wait, it's just that you can do that waiting elsewhere. So, an autistic person can potentially get that come back time, and sit in a corner of the park that's less noisy while waiting.

That’s a good question, but this person told me they were lying. I hope that people that really do suffer from anxiety will be able to use the DAS pass still, but who knows. Thanks for watching.

@@pvt.reefer6163 There's a HUGE difference between being in a crowded but open area and being penned into a small, crowded, enclosed area where you can't get out if it gets overwhelming.
I have a disability and waiting in long lines is not an option. However, that is not Disney’s responsibility. I am making the choice to go to the park. They didn’t make me They offer a great program that yes you have to pay for, but if i can afford to go to Disney, then i can afford a little extra. Personally, I think DAS should be only for those who have a terminally ill condition. Going to Disney is such a privilege there’s so many people who can never afford to go.
Making disabled people pay more to go to their park is just discrimination. Period.

The sad thing is not everyone with autism needs this accommodation. Not all autistic people are the same. I have a child that is severe and have many friends (son attends school for special needs) that have done Disney that have autistic kids that wait in the normal lines no problem? Just going through the steps of applying and dealing with the anxiety about being told no or being told yes and then permanently banned later on if they decide we're not adequately autistic for the DAS is just going to put off those of us that don't really need it from even trying.

It's really not that fragile, a lot of the folks who might need this sort of accommodation are fine being tossed around in a ride or somewhat less fine being in large crowds, but can't handle the extreme noise levels and over-stimulation waiting in the queues. They probably could offer the accommodation in other ways. Depending upon how many people are making use of this, a sensory room adjacent to the queue to wait in for the amount of time would also be a great accommodation.
