    I've been using the water cups for 2 months now and I love it.. Just have to rinse and refill every 4th day. I even have it in the chick coop and every now and then I will see a baby chick standing on or in a cup , but none have broken yet..

    Very good! Two things to consider: Use food grade buckets so you don’t get harmful plastic chemicals in the water and if your birds hatch their own chicks, be absolutely sure those chicks can reach the water, or place an additional chick size waterer in the pen. Same goes for the food, of course. Looks like the hens are enjoying the fresh water. :)

      Great suggestion on the food grade bucket. I don't raise chicks, but the areas I put the water cups would be low enough for them.

    Great concept, going to use a smaller bucket, only have 5 chicks.

    Hanging chads 😂😂😂😂 Gosh I remember when people did that as a Halloween costume 😂 Better than the mysterious electronic voting counters "malfunctioning" in the middle of the night 😂
    Great DIY! Im going to give it a try this week! Thank you!

    Fantastic idea, but how do u keep algae from growing in the bucket when it's hot out? My chicken's water gets as warm as bathwater in the summer.

      I keep a lid on mine to keep sunlight out, and its also in a shady area most of the day.

      I don't because I built my own from PVC pipe. I have a video on it in my backyard chicken playlist.

    what is the best way to clean the cups? it is too heavy for me to move in and out {ours is inside)

    • @oneseedoneworld
      @oneseedoneworld  6 месяцев назад

      Since mine is outside, I generally just do a quick spray out with the hose in each cup since the chickens will still sometimes drop some grit or dirt in there. I have also occasionally just wiped them out with a rag and about three or four times a year I take them completely off the bucket and soak them in some soapy water or vinegar/water mixture to make sure all parts are clean that I can't reach.

    Did your chickens cause the cups to turn and leak all the water out? Our cups didn't leak, but did turn. If the cups get sideways, they will empty the bucket

    • @oneseedoneworld
      @oneseedoneworld  5 месяцев назад

      I have not had the problem. I did have once where the nuts on the inside of the bucket worked loose and it leaked, so now I just check to make sure they are tight each morning, but never had the cups turn.

    Did you drill a vent hole in the bucket lid?

  • @CrossroadToCountry
    @CrossroadToCountry Год назад +1

    So why can't you put it at the bottom? Just curious.

    • @oneseedoneworld
      @oneseedoneworld  Год назад

      You could probably put it lower than I did. Just makes it easier for drilling the holes. Also I sometimes have some sediment in my hose water that I fill it with, so that settles to that bottom area and doesn't come out through the cups.

      There is a link for the ones I use in the video description . They work for both my bantams and regular size chickens.

    How long before they jumped on top of the bucket and crapped all over it lol

    • @oneseedoneworld
      @oneseedoneworld  Год назад

      lol actually I have been lucky I guess, because that hasn't happened. My little bantam rooster sometimes will hop up on it in the morning to crow, but hasn't pooped on it yet. And the other girls haven't bothered getting on top of it.

    • @oneseedoneworld

      Some chickens can be picky about how they get their water, or may take time to get used to a new system. My whole flock was super interested in it, (I think maybe because of the bright orange cups) and were drinking out of it within just a few minutes of install. Sorry to hear that yours weren't fans!
