My social security number was stolen and a tax return was filed using my number in Texas...and I live in West Virginia!! I caught it when I filed my return in 2012. They just let someone file a return without having to prove who they are. But I had to prove who I was when I went to inform the IRS!!! And they did nothing about the person that stole it. They said it happened all the time and rarely did the perpetrators get charged.

When I found out the cellphone company, Sprint, would not cooperate with law enforcement to go after the crook.
