Piers confronts the politician about fabricating a college education, with Santos admitting it was one of the biggest regrets of his life. But then he later adds he thought no one would notice because "I ran in 2020 for the same exact seat for Congress... and I got away with it then."
Piers then pushes Santos to confess he's been "a terrible liar" - but he claims it wasn't about tricking the American people but getting himself accepted by the Republican Party.

What a weird, bizarre and totally devious sociopath. He's a master manipulator and con man. He clearly loves all the attention, even though he says he doesn't. He's using Piers Morgan to advance his own notoriety. He sits calmly answering the questions, acting like a normal human being, pretending to be honest about his lying and the alleged crimes he has committed. But you simply cannot believe a word he says about anything.
I was married to one like him. He was never caught. He lied like a rug, but people adored him! Santos argues sematics. If something you say can be misinterupted, then don't say it again! It is the speaker's responsibility to make people understand what he means.

You can't win an argument with a pathological liar, sociopath and narcissist. There isn't a question you can ask to put them on the spot or make them feel ashamed. As is demonstrated here, when confronted by Piers about there being no record of him ever attending a private high school or the public profile that listed him as a drag performer, Santos responds with, "I have no idea why they don't have a record of me attending. You will have to ask them about that!". Or, "I have no idea who put that profile up on the web, or why they would do it, but it wasn't me!". What Santos understands is that in America, the ONLY thing that matters today is being famous. It doesn't matter HOW you acquired that fame, because you can still monetize it. Just as many people probably run up to Santos to ask for a photo with him, as there are people talking smack about him. We Americans created this phenomenon when we elected a sociopathic grifter and pathological liar to be our 45th president. It set a precedent for all future Republican politicians to follow.

I have heard the quote “He wouldn’t know the truth if it slapped him in the face.” I always thought it was just a funny quote but I have finally seen an instance where that is absolutely true. What an absolute pathological liar. One of the craziest things is that most people would run so far away from being questioned about anything but this guy runs to every interview as fast as he can without showing any stress.

@@bobbyheenan4061 yep, I had a girlfriend who was like this and as time went on all the drama and conflict in her life was due to what were quite subtle lies that ran like a thread through every part of her life. She was actually a really lovely person in so many ways but I think she was a pathological liar, she couldn't help herself. She was unable to be honest with herself, therefore ultimately everything was a lie. Whilst I came to see this as time went on I only ended it when I became part of that lie. I think we all lie when it suits us, but there are some who lie pretty much all the time and when someone you trust lies to your face, then still can't be honest when confronted, things can never be the same again. This guy is like that, I couldn't believe anything he says, simply because you couldn't know if in that moment he had flipped back into the lies. He should not be in any position of power.

This interview is proof that he's loving every minute of this. If he had a shred of normal human psyche he wouldn't talk to the press at all about this subject.
He has deep sociopath and narcissistic tendecies which have been outed on a grand scale. Deep down he hates vehemently that his deception has been exposed. He's not loving this process because his reputation is destroyed beyond repair. Him talking to the press is a part of the strategy. His folly is that he still believes that he can claw back some dignity but ultimately it's having the opposite effect as his underlying sociopathic pathology is clearly on display.

Santos seems like he wants a certain image of himself and admiration. Also although he has some irritation that he's being challenged he does like the attention. @@deed2157 He has sociopathic tendencies inasmuch as he lacks empathy and enjoys manipulating others. He was able to facilitate all that comes with his disorder under the cover of his deception. Once that cover was blown the universal trait of fight or flight is activated within him and he likely has spent time concocting further deception within his mind in an attempt to explain the lies that have been exposed in the media and which he still feels are salable. For instance, he maintains his mother was working in the twin towers when the planes hit. He subtly absolved himself from this lie by intimating this was what his mother told him and that he still believes without any doubt that she did infact work there on 9/11. This is different from his initial position that his mother as a matter of fact did escape from her position of work on that fateful day. You are however right when you say sociopaths (and for the record narcissists) love attention but they enjoy this attention with certain conditions met. They hate to be uncovered and have their flaws laid bare for everybody to see as for the most part they don't subscribe to the idea that they are flawed in any way at all. The interviewer does a good job here in getting Santos to come face to face his deception and flawed personality. He even pushed him into blaming his deceased mother for his deceptive account of his school history and aforementioned discrepancies in where she worked.

The thing is he, at the end of the "mom" explanation, says that his "family" or his "mom" always told him that this or that about his heritage or her job and he was only a kid back then...how is anybody going to verify this? She's dead so they can't ask her...very convenient. The problem is not what she told him or didn't tell him anything...but what he put on his resume and website to get elected to congress.
