Fish pass opens in County Durham | ITV News

  • Now for centuries, fish in a stretch of the River Derwent in County Durham have been separated by the man-made aftermath of the Industrial Revolution.
    Weirs were placed along the Derwent, under the orders of local mill owners - who needed water power for their factories. It meant that the fish population was divided into two - and it's remained that way ever since.
    Now though, a charity is building fish passes to help the fish, finally, to mix. Rachel Bullock went to see how the project is progressing.
