    Great video. Jackson is an excellent QB, but after KC out played the Ravens with strategic blitzes and a containment strategy, coupled with their excellent DBs, he ultimately felt the pressure to make something happen. As the clock ticked down and he and the Ravens coaches panicked and folded. The Raven were out played by a better overall game plan and better coaching. Period.

      They didn't. That play wasn't supposed to last as long as it did. Lamar made a great escape from what should've been a sack by Leo Chenal. KC had everything covered for a second or two beyond the almost-sack, but Lamar just extended a play that "shouldn't" have taken that long.

  • @tannerarmstrong1496
    @tannerarmstrong1496 11 месяцев назад +17

    On that first play, you said that in that case Lamar ended up winning. I would also say the cheifs defensive scheme was absolutely perfect for that play. The cheifs defense was able to break through and get 2 hands on Lamar. Thats basically a win in my book when it comes to defensive scheeming. The only issue is the player who got to him wasn't able to complete the tackle and gave Lamar an extra chance which he took advantage of. On that play the KC coaches out schemed the ravens coaches, and Lamars personal physicality bailed them out.

    It's not just about the scheme, it's also having players win 1:1 matchups. KC DL straight up won the battle vs Ravens OL and didn't give Lamar a clear pocket or running lanes.

    • @patek9789
      @patek9789 7 месяцев назад

      Also the Chiefs DB’s won their matchup vs the Ravens Wrs as well

  • @CMCFLYYY
    @CMCFLYYY 11 месяцев назад +2

    The play at 3:15 is the best example. KC has a great secondary especially the CBs which are great in press, and they trusted that secondary to win in this one. They basically just blitzed the entire front 6 with both LBs in the same "blitz but keep your eyes on the RB and if he comes to your side he's your responsibility in Man". Probably paired with film study that knows the Ravens always have their RBs check before releasing, KC knows they can just blitz and not worry about the RB because he'll always stay in to block. That way they can effectively rush 6 vs 6 while their secondary plays 5v4, and trust they can either win a 1v1 pass rush eventually.

    • @harrymills2770
      @harrymills2770 6 месяцев назад

      Yes. Also, KC's DBs have a deeper understanding of the team concept and scheme, which allows them to show one thing and play something completely different. Trusting those DBs to play multiple roles over the course of the game really helps them.
      Zone blitz is very hard to execute, and very hard to beat when it's well-executed. That DT/DE doesn't HAVE to actually cover anybody if they disguise their intentions, pre-snap, and drop into the correct zone. A QB under pressure doesn't have time to calculate "My guy can easily beat the D-Lineman." He just sees a red jersey in the area his progression says he should go when he's blitzed from that area, which SHOULD be vacant when the DB/LB blitzes.

    I'm still baffled at the refs not penalizing Jackson for intentional grounding around the 4:20 mark of this video. Hill (43), didn't even make a motion back towards Jackson, until after Chris Jones batted down the pass. Jackson was still in the pocket; therefore, intentional grounding as there isn't clear enough evidence that he was even trying to throw the ball to Hill, when attempting to avoid a sack.
    Jackson is looking Jones dead in the face when tossing the ball away. So either he mistakenly thought Jones was Hill, or blindly tossed the ball away in hopes that the refs wouldn't flag him. Sadly, it worked in favor of an "incomplete pass." That's every bit as unnerving as when Brady got an incompleted "forward pass" call in his favor, instead of a fumble, in the famous 2001 Ice Bowl Divisional playoff against the Raiders.

    While I still think Lamar has the potential to become an elite QB, there are some glaring holes in his game. There are certain areas of the field where he's basically unwilling to throw. This means that the coverage can basically ignore these areas without having to worry about him throwing there. The biggest example of this is along the sidelines. He will almost never throw sideline balls of any kind unless he absolutely has to because it's a potential TD. But he just doesn't seem to have the accuracy and timing neefThe only one's will ever even attempt to throw are basically just curl routes right at the first down marker. The way that he throws a lot of his short passes also ends up extremely telegraphing where he's going to throw the ball. I'm specifically referring to that little dart throwing motion he does. Because of the way he holds the ball for that and loads up, it basically gives any defender that's actually paying attention a hard confirmation of where and when he's throwing the ball. The formula isn't just "pressure lamar, keep him contained, and force him to throw"
    it's "pressure lamar, keep him contained, cover the middle of the field and force him to make throws that he doesn't want to"

      Everything he showed was a pass play though. I'm not sure I understand your point! You see on that one int that Lamar could have run the ball there was a pretty wide lane there. Houston couldn't run the ball for nothing against the Ravens last week, but they still did it because it's part of keeping the defense honest. However, to your point, what quarterback throws well when they're under heavy pressure? None of them do consistently!
      Unfortunately when Lamar is pressing he loses some of his footwork throwing fundamentals. They should have done some receiver stacks and then run to that side because it would then create an empty space or have the running back leak out to that side for a swing pass. Lamar needs to also have a magician like play action pass. The Chiefs waited to make sure it was a pass play and then they would run out with their backs turned to try and find receivers. If it looks like a real running play in Lamar has the ball behind his back so they say, there should be some people open. They should have also run some delays and draw plays. For whatever reason, they use the rollout and rolling pocket against Houston but did not use it against the Chiefs. This would force the defense to try and figure out whether Lamar is actually planning to run the ball or throw the ball.

That is even BETTER than what the Chiefs did (who did not blitz nearly as much), because with 5 pass rushers, that contains Lamar better and gives Lamar less time. Like the 54 yard pass to zay flowers was good but if he hits him in stride, its a TD. Instead, Zay had to wait for the ball to come and then ended up taunting the best corner in the league, which Sneed made him pay for. Lamar can pass against mediocre defenses but cant against elite defenses. Like Buffalo, I think the Ravnes will be disappointed year after year. No clutch gene to be found as well.

    Stop with this Lamar Jackson is a really really good QB crap. He stresses the defense with his legs. Take that away and he falls apart.
    And the main thing with pressuring Lamar is not to let him escape up the middle. You notice that they contain him by not allowing him any running lanes up the middle. Rarely is he actually trying to escape around the outside. He's always trying to get the guys in front of him to overpersue so he can gash them up the middle.

      @CuttinEJ 11 месяцев назад

      @@doctoryoinky, it wasn’t too hard to flip the script on him. You need to consider strength of schedule and look at the teams being played against. No one has ever had schedules as tough as KC and New England, year after year and yet both of those teams (with truly great QBs) dominated their respective conferences and the rest of the league. The Ravens were 8-9 in 2021 which gave them a pretty easy schedule for 2022 (10-7). That turned into a strength of schedule of 9.6 this year vs 11.8 for KC. The Chiefs had a much tougher schedule and still won 11 games when they were “struggling”. Then 2 playoff games on the road. Next year the Ravens are going to have a much tougher schedule because they made it to the conference championship game. I’ll bet dollars to donuts they don’t win no 13 games next year. They’ll probably make the playoffs, but I’ll extend that bet and say they won’t do better than 3rd or 4th seed.
