To make everything happen, the curse. People hate ch139 but i hate s4 all of it, not the last chapter. In 139, Eren redeemed himself in the eyes of Armin, who probably explained to everyone the doom he'd protected them from. Besides, I think the ending was so hast because MIT Studio had declined Isayama's request of season 4 and MAPPA would only accept if the manga ending was near.
