The Song: • Push Ups Видеоклипы
A few songs later and, like, yeah, the Michael Jackson reference was definitely in reference to being sexually inappropriate with children.
The Tokyo, Japan line was a reference to him messing with Future’s girl named Tokyo.
dude really taking things literally right? you'd think him being a professor on hip hop he'd get that reference xD
@@jjtolson c'mon, it's obscure at best. That one guy made a video connecting the dots, and suddenly its gospel lol
@@ahmadmuhammadadamu7314 it’s not look it up brotha, if you’re going to say that then you have to dismiss all of the allegations both sides say and just take it as flow in their raps
@@ahmadmuhammadadamu7314 it has to be about the girl because Drake has never preformed in Japan. Kendrick on the other hand took his MMATBS tour to Japan.
@@jjtolson He's a professor, not a gossip swapping stories over the garden fence. 🤷♀️
Mr Morale didn't brick. That album made me want to be a better man

Nah it definitely bricked keep it real

Hey just wanna say I love watching your other reviews even if they don’t get as many views. You’re probably my fav music critic rn and I love your analysis on everything no matter what it is❤
Thanks!
Professor holding down his own section in this hip hop community, and yes you are hip hop as well
Sorry i discovered ya channel this way but im def subbed now
Crazy how you pointed out the PDF file stuff before Kendrick got to it
Right!
Average Knot fans
Thanks!
Wow, thank you for that! Unexpected but very appreciated.
AVAA, love you Mr.Skye- to be fair, Metro had A LOT to do with this so yes, he "deserves all of the credit" but for setting the field for this beef that has been accumulating for literally over a decade that is now direct for all of us to experience, sans subliminals
AVAA professor! Just know that even if you don't make much money off of your channel, your thoughts are inspiring each of those who choose to come to your channel looking to expand their understanding of art. You are one of my heroes. Keep it up!
thanks. Truthfully its not about money, but about the satisfaction of knowing that my thoughts are getting out there. Being an academic can be kinda sad because it feels so hard to get your thoughts out there. That is why RUclips success is so edifying. When it goes away its like half the class is playing hooky. :)
Just started watching you today, your breakdowns are really excellent, and almost makes me miss college... Almost 😅
Nothing Drake dropped during this beef was as impactful, interesting, funny, or poignant, as anything Kendrick dropped over the duration. This was an absolute drubbing. By the by... Kendrick ROUTINELY OUTPERFORMS DRAKE NUMBERS WISE AS WELL. Including Mr. Morale. Eventually Drakes album caught up, but upon initial release??? Cleared.
That’s just it. Disses, truths and lies aside; performance and versatility wins.
Thank you for injecting some critical thinking into hiphop instead of just “reacting”.
There's a lot of other channels doing that too...
The Japan bar towards the beginning is actually a shot at Future, because there’s a model named Tokyo who associates with future and has been posting stuff with future’s team and WDTY promotion. But she was also out with Drake at his concert and the trailers backstage a few weeks before WDTY. Also future basically just plays at festivals in the US and almost never goes international. I always love watching your videos, your thoughts are always so insightful! AVAA
"Big in Japan" is devil work 😭
@@FrancoisDresslerfr 😭
Didn’t Drake also hire drummers to play outside the club they were at? That man is next level when it comes to beef (minus Pusha T ☠️)
Thank you for continuing to take the time to make these amazing videos AVAA
AVAA, you're right we all want to to be entertained by this scalding hot rap beef
Best analysis i've found on the beef so far, hope you get the views dude you deserve them.
AVAA Professor! and It stands for awesome, not ass haha. Regarding Drake's diss tracks(this one and taylor made freestyle), it just reaffirms my thoughts on Drake that I've been having that there is something special about him being in a beef/diss mode. I really never cared for him as an artist; his entire career and his distinct approach to his craft have always left me with a feeling of confusion and perplexion for all the reasons I have personally (how most of his albums fail to have one, holistic album experience with a common theme tying the album, and how commercial-driven his music is, etc, etc) But, he does have a certain je ne sais quoi when it comes to dissing that makes him seem very clever and strategic. I love how he's playing to his obvious strengths (money, streaming, number games, relevance) but subtly and jokingly softening the potential blows preemptively. Even the way how he leaked the track to basically test the water, Is annoyingly clever. Can't wait for kdot's response!
You remind me of my old English classes. Just like your videos, such interesting discussions were brought up in that very room. it's very nice coming across an analysis which is similar.
I really love your work. Wow
You one of the best in the game! Idk why the algorithm didn’t show me your vids!
Great analysis
13:53 in the words of the 6 God "pipsqueak pipe down" all is fair in rap battles, and those lines were very funny, lol. Love your stuff, couldn't help but use that line though, lol. Avaa
Feel like Kendrick watched this then wrote his songs lol
AVAA - Washing your hair dry is wild. Commenting as tribute to The Algorithm.
I’m sorry in a battle using ghostwriters is a disqualification automatically. In regular songs I guess that’s accepted now but in battles NO.. that’s like asking for a fade then jumping a MFer with your boys. That shit goofy
AVAA liked the insight that wasnt just reactionary exclamations
What does AVAA mean?
@@sameenshakya5188 Awesome Video As Always, he says it in his videos
Probably the least expected place to run into Orbit. hope you are doing well pal.
9:01 symbiotic vs parasitic...for the smaller artists, Drake's drink of their blood totally drains them, they're husks thereafter
I was hesitant… but, I’m glad I found your channel.
AVAA great analysis Skye!
I love your point of view and perspective you offer. You probably can’t find a better analysis of these bars than this on RUclips 💯
You did it again exactly what I was thinking AVAA
Someone probably already mentioned it either on stream or here in the comments, but seeing you're so in depth, I figured I just wanted to mention that Kendrick didn't compare Drake to MJ per se, Drake did himself on First Person Shooter w/ J. Cole, since he, then, was only one number 1 single away from MJ who held the record for most number #1 singles, and kendrick most likely just referred to that, since it was a response to the old Big Sean track Control, where Kendrick seemingly started the whole beef.
Could also be the fact that MJ also was a person of color, but percieved as being a white person, but im pretty certain about the reference. But thanks for the content you provide, it really is appreciated! You gained a subscriber.
You, Bliss, Shawncee, and Akademiks are in your own lanes on crowded highways.
That’s true I was happy to see this. I love how I’m depth and introspective he gets on these videos
JBP too
Fantano too I guess
I can't be the only person that sees Heath Ledger's Joker peeking out the clouds, right?
Drake going at Rick Ross for being about 50 like they both ain’t gonna be at the same nursing home playing bingo 😭 AVAA
AVAA. you should do classic album reviews like early mobb deep, wu tang, de la soul, erik b and rakim, digible planets etc.. would get tons of views!
haha love the Queen reference, slight but I still caught it
AVAA. Would love to see a video about Drake’s new diss track, not to focus on the lyrics but to instead discuss his use of AI Tupac and Snoop Dogg, I think it’s a very interesting way to go about it and would be interested to hear your thoughts
Nobody better make fun of Drake for getting a BBL and fake abs
AVAA Professor, I would love to see your analysis of the new AG Cook soul breaker music video. Done by the same animator who has worked on a few black midi songs. Really hot right now given charli is about to drop and AG is all over it

Wanted to say great video also can’t wait for Kendrick’s response but I hope it has the theme of asking Drake who he really is? AVAA
AVAA! Love the typology.

Counter points to your argument mr professor.
1) Quality of Music: Drake said, just as J Cole also said, that Mr Morale was a flop. Regardless of whether or you you think it’s a masterpiece, majority of people would say that was his worst album and it’s also clear because the album did not sell well. It did not do well at all sir by Kendrick’s standards. That was Drake’s point. Kendrick latest work was also outdone by SZA, by Travis and by 21s latest album. So he did not have nothing, it’s the general public’s opinion. Mr Morale was not well received. That’s true.
Furthermore, Drake clearly towers over them so if Kendrick is struggling to compete with them, then Drake is bigger than him because Drake is bigger than those 3, that’s what he was saying, not that he was nominating “champions”.
14:13 there's instructions on the bottle..? 😅 idk.
You’re miss construing a couple pts. 1st, it’s a dig for dot to have fts with pop artists because he’s supposed to be an artist that makes music for the art. Drake is saying he’s sacrificing his art because Top forced him to do records with pop artists for money.
2nd, when Drake said 21 and the other 2 had him wiped down it’s because they out sold dot’s opening week sales compared to dot’s last record.
Enjoyed the rest of the video! Nice work
Can you or anyone elaborate on the certain black artist that can play in Japan/East Asia thing?
6’1 Professor Towney? How do you command any respect In the classroom?
The contract insult isn't new. Pusha T used it on Lil Wayne on Exodus 23:1 and on Drake with Story of Adidon.
Kendrick has insulted rappers who sign 360 deals on his Monster remix in 2010.
That's off the top of my head. It's really quite common.
I know this is but the line about Japan had nothing to do with performing in Japan. Drake was implying that he was having sex with futures girlfriend named Tokyo
I don’t think your numbers this week mean your channel is tanking
What’s most impressive and enjoyable about your videos (to me!) is watching content where the creator resists being transfigured into a commodity machine. I think it’s cool you don’t mess up your health for your videos like Casey Neistat used to. In my mind your videos are exceptional because they’re thoughtful, which is extraordinary on this platform. The algorithm drains creators of that quality and incentivises them to be panicked/hateful/unkind, on and off camera.
I guess I’m telling you I think this cos I think there’s a so much worth in your videos, no matter if you get only a few thousand views a week (crazy numbers!), and the qualities that make the algorithm not so keen are perhaps what make the project special
AVAA!
8:00 this has been a great analysis!
But just wanna point out that the big in Japan bars were directed at FUTURE & metro boomin, not Kendrick
Future is an American street rapper. The most popular one. But I’m pretty sure future isn’t welcome in Asia fr lol
me and my little brother are both 6'7 and the older brother is 6'5. you bet we make fun of him for being short.
You need to do a video on the Tupac and Snoop Dogg AI thing he did - I think that's a BC to AD moment in general for music. Ironically Drake's best piece of art was morally bankrupt and if you Google Drake AI song you get TaylorMade lol. But I'd love to hear your take on it
My two cents on the ad hominem thing… doesn’t it hurt way more when someone makes fun of you for the thing you CAN’T change? Kendrick can win this rap beef but his shoe size will never be bigger than size 7’s… i’m not arguing for Drake but just curious on your thoughts on that?
It can go both ways imo. It depends on Kendrick’s or anyone’s mindset. If how he values his worth is not on society’s standards/expectations (eg society says real men have feet bigger than Kendrick’s but Kendrick believes what makes a real man is treating others with respect or the like) & he lives up to that most of the time, then an attack on a physical reality that he’s accepted or doesn’t place import on isn’t going to sting so much if at all.
I dunno if the Professor agrees with me or not, but there’s a consideration. How much an attack of that sort hurts Kendrick is up to Kendrick & where he places the source of his self worth 😊
The bar about "Being BIG IN Japan" is a faux-double entendre, something ive really only seen Drake do and might even be something HE personally innovated as far as a weapon in submimnal disses.
He says hes big in japan so your initial instinct is to take it at face value that he must mean what he says, but the issue with the bar reveals itself when you research the numbers and realize that hes infact NOT popular in Japan at all, infact it's one of his weakest markets...
So wait, is Drake just being inauthentic? Is he outright lying? Misinformed?
Nope, what he is actually doing is being very sneaky, because hes actually refrencing a Japanese girl both Future and Drake himself have had sex with. Being "Big IN Japan" is his way of saying hes...well you get the idea. Faux Double Entendre, because he's camflouging a subliminal diss through a double entendre that isnt factual, yet he knows that, and says it for the chance to make a diss that only the ears that are meant to understand it will, while the rest assume its more innocent.
Jay Z was big with those coded subliminals as well, and drake took heed, but Drake really stepped it up from where Jay left it
Okay, so it's what? A doubly weak line? I don't get it
You're the one that invented dry shampoo? 👀
AVAA, 50 isn't too old. When you are 81 you should probably retire though.
Day 288 of Asking you to Review Achilles Down by Gang of Youth
AVAA, but I think Metro has a lot to do with this beef lol
Im big in Japan was a punch line directed at Future. Drake has a video online of him having a really big D, so I've heard. So he's telling Future he's REALLY big inside his girl. That, is what we call in hip-hop, a bar. A diss. A jab. And it HITS. Kendrick has no bars. You have no bars.
AVAA!!!
I am sure it's been said, but I feel that the sentiment behind "Prince outlived MJ" is getting lost. The rebuttal doesn't really attack the threat itself - just tippy toes around it with the whole "I am your father" trope. It's clever, but not thaaaat clever.
algo
Of all the things i want to criticise you for on this video, YOU USED TO WASH YOUR HAIR WHILE IT WAS DRY HAHAHAHAHAHA
AVAA
Drake OVO AVAA
AVAA, since you talk about not getting enough views so often: You might want to adjust your thumbnails to have a more coherent and modern design language. I think the thumbnails are charming, but they tend to fall into the "Graphic design is my passion" category lol. Also, talking about how bad your videos are doing might really deter me as a new viewer. I know what I am in for and love it, others might not at first. Just my two cents :)
AVAA ❤❤
AVAA! Watching this with a RUclips Premium, hope that you'll get finessed a little less this way

ALL DUE RESPECT PROFESSOR;
Great job, really all due respect. I disagree with much and believe you discounted raw ignorant energy. But nice job.
AVAA 😁
LL Cool J ? Lol Come on professor. Try Jay Z. The only other rapper to be in the same boat as relevancy and longevity as Drake.
metro deserves the hate lowkey, the whole “we don’t trust you” albums where all about how they don’t like drake
I think you've downplayed the effectiveness of ad hominems, you said it yourself that these are the most hurtful things to bully someone over, especially if they are insecure about it. The purpose is disrespect, you should not hold anything back.
AVAA “IM GETTING FINESSED” 😂
I think you're misinterpreting the taylor swift bars and the 21, sza, and travis bars. the taylor swift bars are meant to show that kendrick has gone pop too just like drake. drake is basically saying your doing the same thing as me you are not that different. now for the wipe down bars he is saying that these artists are outselling kendrick which is fosho true for travis and sza.
AVAA I would argue that having a smaller shoe size would work out to a cooler sneaker collection. Try finding a size 10 or 12? Good luck. But check any rack in a 7... mad colourways 😅
Only 2:48 in and you was already killing it serve em up proper…..can you review cavaliers new project / backwoodz studios
Drake was talking about Future with the Japan line because he prefaces it with the line about how he could never be someones number one fan which is a clear reference to the "we dont trust you" track. Also, I believe the Japan line is an example that he's big overseas in general. The fact that he uses Japan rather than another arbitrary place overseas doesnt add to the line. So the racial bias specific to Japan shouldn't really be factored in. Drake points out that Kendrick did songs with Maroon 5 and T Swift not to argue that he himself isnt pop. He does it because the tracks themed around TD telling Kendrick what to do. Additionally, this is mentioned to point out that Kendrick is hypocritical and isnt above being a "sell out" himself. This is clearly something people critique Drake about but when KDot does it with less success no one critiques him. Furthermore, you mention that Drake's points on mentioning financial and commercial success seem silly since Kendrick is also extremely successful in that regard. Couldnt you argue the opposite that its silly to debate creative success when they are both so creatively successful. It doesnt matter if your opponent is better than the average competitor. This is mono e mono. When standing up face to face how do they compare. Raw competition in any regard. Therefore, it's fair to mention how your opponent falls short in any regard. I lyrically enjoy Kendrick more as a rapper and often enjoy his albums much more because they are cohesive and possess depth. However, everyone loves to hate on Drake because he is the easy target at the top of the mountain. Stating that he's only successful because of x, y, and z. The level of discredit this man receives simply because of the fact that he is popular astonishes me. Yes Drake certainly has his flaws as an artist but stop being so embarrassed to give the guy his flowers when its due.
This would make sense if Dot presents himself as some sort of purist. It’s a weird attack angle because Dot has never said anything against pop stars.
AVAA Drake had to drop another diss track after seeing this
Ai needs to be regulated or just banned in my opinion, in the past few days out of curiosity I listened to Ai songs and these songs sounds just like these artists, Kanye, Drake, Rihanna, Travis… even recently there is two new Kendrick disses on Twitter that people couldn’t tell if it’s real or Ai.
avaa
Prof you gotta go back 2 back Drake just dropped
AVAA 🔥
Drake has actually never hopped on a Maroon 5 / Taylor type of pop track. If he wants a hit hes gonna make it himself. I thought that was maybe the best diss on the song tbg
FIRST
AAVA: the "being finessed" by record labels bit is not new. In fact, it's been used against Drake. In Exodus 23:1 by Pusha (diss to Wayne/Drake) he says "contract is all fucked up, you are signed to one dude thats signed to another dude thats signed to another dude, that's bad luck" referring to Birdman, etc and all the cash Young Money has to kick. And in Story Of Adidon Pusha says "The M's count different when baby divides the pie" talking about Baby (Birdman) and the double entendre with his newborn kid. That being said the Drake comments must sting because i bet you since he's very buddy buddy with Lucian Grainge from UMG he probably has a stake in the company and must get a share in some rapper's royalties etc
why do you always have to emphasize that you're not gonna do the "typical reaction" it says analysis in the title and you have professor in your channel name skye there's a space for that type of stuff without you having to mock it
That’s a fair criticism! I enjoy all that stuff and if I ever seem like I’m mocking it it’s probably because I’m insecure that my channel doesn’t have worth!

Just one point, Drake doesn’t experience colorism.
Hes mixed so of course he does... Ask any mixed person. Its just a different kind. Any colorism in 2024 is a damn shame tbh.
@@nevermind.abbs7 Colorism defined: prejudice or discrimination against individuals with a dark skin tone, typically among people of the same ethnic or racial group.
Drake does not have a dark skin tone so by definition does not experience colorism. I’m not saying he hasn’t been mistreated, it’s just not colorism. Bullying is what he is experiencing.
@@missyrobbins8617 Exactly. You literally just proved my point. I didn't think posting the definition from a dictionary was necessary so i didn't. But if you don't understand how colorism affects mixed people i don't know how to explain in it in more concise and easy to understand terms for you. Its like arguing about "reverse racism" imo. Its pointless. Its all bad. Its all elitist racist trash. We should be so far past this by now.
@@nevermind.abbs7 The ppl he’s saying are exhibiting colorism towards Drake are Black ppl, many are dark skinned Black ppl. And I understand exactly where you’re going with your comment because you believe what Drake is experiencing is reverse colorism.
I’m an eternal optimist so I’ll try one more time…
Bullying and discrimination are not the same. The discrimination that the colorism definition is referring to are the pervasive/widespread comments, actions, behaviors, norms, etc., even to point of being systemic/societal levels of discrimination against dark skinned people. Not the individual instances of mean comments Drake has been on the receiving end of.
Prior to this beef, or at least the leading up to it, Drake enjoyed widespread support universally, including within the Black community. I’ll bet a mil that his skin tone/bi-racial identity and privilege played a major role in ALL of that. These recent comments he’s got or the individual instances throughout his life don’t equate to the pervasive discrimination that is colorism affecting dark skinned ppl.
Light skinned and/or biracial people do experience bullying around their skin tone and/or identity and that is wrong. However, within a cultural and societal context, they also enjoy levels of privilege, access, opportunity, etc. that dark skinned people do not and in turn are discriminated against.
I really hopes this makes the distinction clearer and even if it doesn’t, I’m out. Sending you love and light. ✌🏾unto you as well.
