I play hockey, and I've never heard of a "dime stop".But it looks like it would mess up your legs. And I don't mean to be one of those people, that criticize everything, but you're also skating and doing crossovers wrong.
You are my idol Dan, i'm from mexico and i practice all your tricks and ideas in my local arena, but it is so hard, i agree with daniella you make it look easy, but it doesnt matter, i will practice so much, i want to live in NY to take lessons with you but i live in mexico and i love all your videos, keep uploading more videos please
@JohnPettipher1 Sharper skates will make it harder to stop for beginners. Once you get the hang of stopping then sharp skates can be used to your advantage.
This explanation was very helpful. The best I've found. I've got the basics down, and now it's time to really start hitting the brakes hard and hopping into it at high speed. Thanks for taking the time to make this video!
I can pretty much do the whole 2footed stop but its not good enough when for instance some one falls over and you need to stop almost instantly so i think on wednesday i'll try that one, i'll post how i get on and if i have any questions =) Awesome videos as always thanks for taking the time to make these
I used to do aggressive inline for years, i bought a pair of ice hockey skates and hopped on the ice for the first time, almost felt like ive been doing that for years, there exactly the same. Its just the ice is obviously alot more slippery so it takes a few minutes to adjust from wheels to a blade!
Wow amazing video, 6:06 is very intense. Ive started to skate this winter, and ive gone to a rink at least 6 times now, and i havent managed to stop. its really frustration
Thanks for posting this. I've been skating for years and have never been able to do these kinds of stops. When I try to do a hockey stop at a fast pace, I end up spinning around in a circle. Any tips ?
Cool this is the stop I've been looking for, I've been practicing 4 a while but I'm still freaked of stacking it. (I can't bring myself to go fast). Anyway awesome video they're all really helpful!
awesome tutorial. How about a detailed tutorial on a regular stop LOL cuz i still haven't mastered that! I feel like my outer foot is ALWAYS doing 95 percent of the work. I think im scared of rolling over my inside foots ankle for some reason even though it has never happened. I've seen videos of people only using the inside foot to stop! having the "outer" foot off the ice all together. How do you do that!
did you sharpen the blade and custom fit them? also, what he forgot to mention that your really just digging your blade into the ice to slow down, so it isn't just turning sideways.
I notice that your skates are laced straight across along the forefoot, but crossover from the ankle upwards. Is that just an eyes vs hooks thing or is there a specific reason that you lace your boots that way?
Thanks for awesome tutorial ;). Does skates need to be little un-sharp? Because its hard for me to do basic stop.(i think that my skates(used 8h) are too sharp)
I want to be able to do a one leg stop using my INNER foot only if you know what i mean. Look at this video 3:36 i know u can do this properly but on that particular stop your inner foot kinda snapped back meaning the outside foot is doing all the work. I can do one leg stops on my "outer foot" pretty good but i've seen only a few who can do a one legged stop using their inner foot only. I feel if i can learn this i could stop much faster
You gotta make a tutorial!! its the most basic thing but alot of people still have problems with it! My buddy gave up he thinks he can't make ice fly cuz he is too skinny don't know if this is true or not.
dude , your damn good ...i'm amature ice skater but i love this sport... and i'm looking forward to learn some of your skillz. thanks again for this tutorial , i'm your FAN !! :D
hi Dan! I hv difficulty on two footed stop. my left foot cant do much pressure that needed. i've been practicing T stop with my left foot and it still doesnt do any good. Do you have the same problem when you were practice it?
hey, whats the most basic/easiest wa tto stop when ice skating? because i can skate fairly well forward or backwards...but i never actually learnt how to stop! you probably already have a video up of a basic stop, but which is the easiest one i can learn fast? because i keep having near-misses when i cant stop =P, and im not quite at the dime-stop level yet =p.
what do you mean by muscle memory? [sorry, don't have audio n my computer atm, so idk if you mention it] Also im having the same problem as "yourm0mlikesme" over here. the edge gets stuck on the ice. idk what kind of stop im trying to do, im learning by my self basically. i just want to be able to stop quick at high speed, or just simply stop.
i am gonna try this trick next time. I hope i won't get injured. Cause what i now fear the most is that i will overturn my feet and than i'll start spinning and eventually crash on my back.
I'm so bad at skating, I fell over and hurt my tailbone when I was doing a little hop on the ice. I don't wanna fall again, but how can I get better at skating? I don't wanna just skate around the rink, I want to learn to stop etc. At the minute I cannot even stop and regularly have close encounters with other skaters :(
Whoa.... Great Tutorial... I'm from Poland and I'm Fourteen so i don't understanded few words ,but i'm Practising this... Great Video (sry for my bad english - correct me if u can ;P)
just to let ppl know. if you try this and you are just starting out on the ice you will end up snapping ur leg cus its way to sharp and stupid to do it
@vincent7487 I suggest you to try as many times as you need, and don't be afraid. After 2 weeks of daily skating I see a lot of progress, and find someone who can explain you everything in your local area.
God you make it look easy, i did it the other day, i stopped so quick i tripped over my blades trying to be clever. I climbed back on to the ice on my hands and knees cos i had fallen into the outside stadium.Posh totty should stick to horses riding.lol
@Prolite Thank you But Dont Worry About My Problem fix watever you have DOUBT if you do ;p but really dont cause im gonna nail it at the end ( IN MY DREAMS)« hopefully though
@vincent7487 :D just get rid of that fear of falling :D when i first started rollerblading i was so afraid of falling that i was falling like apples from tree :D next day i just layed of my fear a side and started doing dumb things like driving backwards, 180 jumps,360jump and some other stuff so the problem is just in your mental barrier (fear) :) get rid of it and the next you know you are skating, jumping, stoping and stuff :) cheerz.

great instructions, the slow-mo helped a lot. i have mastered this thanks to you.

after quite long time, i performed this trick again.. really feels good back then.

:)
Well, you picked the wright city.
It is one of the most beautiful places in Belgium.
I go there every week.
And still not tired going there.
did you sharpen the blade and custom fit them? also, what he forgot to mention that your really just digging your blade into the ice to slow down, so it isn't just turning sideways.
Your skates sound sharp as hell, do you get a 1/4" grind?
I notice that your skates are laced straight across along the forefoot, but crossover from the ankle upwards. Is that just an eyes vs hooks thing or is there a specific reason that you lace your boots that way?
Thanks for awesome tutorial ;).
Does skates need to be little un-sharp?
Because its hard for me to do basic stop.(i think that my skates(used 8h) are too sharp)
thank you very much! i will try all the steps very hard until i will succeed
@JohnPettipher1 It should be eiser with sharp blades, I get mine grinded every other or 3rd week depending on how often I go
I want to be able to do a one leg stop using my INNER foot only if you know what i mean. I know this video is 8 years old or so, but no need for a 40 second intro
Intro was totally obnoxious and your cross overs are weak
dude , your damn good ...i'm amature ice skater but i love this sport... and i'm looking forward to learn some of your skillz. thanks again for this tutorial , i'm your FAN !! :D

hey, whats the most basic/easiest wa tto stop when ice skating? because i can skate fairly well forward or backwards...but i never actually learnt how to stop! you probably already have a video up of a basic stop, but which is the easiest one i can learn fast? because i keep having near-misses when i cant stop =P, and im not quite at the dime-stop level yet =p.

[sorry, don't have audio n my computer atm, so idk if you mention it]
Also im having the same problem as "yourm0mlikesme" over here.
the edge gets stuck on the ice. idk what kind of stop im trying to do, im learning by my self basically. i just want to be able to stop quick at high speed, or just simply stop.

@JohnPettipher1 ye this can effect you alot try diffrent stop's until the get a bit blunt or else you will stop dead and that will go very badly:)
do you have reebok pumps
is he in iceland?
He means flick ice at people or something from the skates...As in ice firing up I think.

@vincent7487 I suggest you to try as many times as you need, and don't be afraid. After 2 weeks of daily skating I see a lot of progress, and find someone who can explain you everything in your local area.

I like how its done in high speed. But the noise is so loud that i made several public skaters fell because its very loud n made em scared... T.T.

omg the begining scared the crap outa me D:
My Ice Skating Shoes Need To Be Sharpened To Do Dime Stop
its the "situation" on skates....
AHAH yea, and then the goalie leaves the net crying for mommy:P
Your crossovers though
I was probably drunk from doing the Drunken' Sailor.
Not so good for your knees and hips, to much shock for your body.
The intro scared me....
this rules
You cant be scared to fall when you skate, its going to happen.
ok, well i just wanted to say it if some hockeyguys wanted to try it out:P but ey it is pretty nice:)
thats alot of shock ur getting when u do that
Strong 1.5 minute intro
money wise, get easton synergy
100$
i mean i cant do well a basic stop xd, umm accutaly learned today xd
hi
Hi.
the intro scared the shit out of me!
