Love helis, but damn, using the A-10C II in DCS is just too much fun. Such good weapons, such good kit.
The problem is A-10 is really not a SEAD aircraft. I intentionally went up against an SA-6 on TTI Persion Gulf server to no good effect. I was at 24k feet and it was launching 16~18 miles out and hit me at 15nm. I was mistaken by a prior successful attack from a CBU-97 dropped at 25k feet which means but someone must have knocked out a search or supporting EW radar then and I didn't realize it. At that range even an AGM can't get an accurate firing solution without some crazy aiming calculating the missile dropping.
A-10C only gets a weapon on an SA-6 by using terrain cover + popup, or multiple planes juking it in and out, or something else firing decoys.
@@EbonySeraphim if you're above the treeline you're playing yourself. I've taken out sa-11 installations with sa-15 cover easily using mavs and cbu's.
Pop ups and situational awareness are key.

Nice hot hawg action! Regarding the tutorials, it is interesting to watch a professional pilot who had to learn how to employ weapons in a coordinated and effective way. It is not only knowing the switchology to launch a weapon but the tactics and the situational awareness to tackle many ongoing situations. I love the Hog, but I'm having a hard time flying CSAR missions, always getting shot down. This type of video shows me that a good pilot needs to step back, see what's going on, where the threats and targets are then engage. Not going YGBSM crazy on everything. It is a great tutorial on tactics and engagement without being a tutorial per se.
The beauty of aviation- when things get hairy we can just pull back and step away for a bit.
This video was awesome. I'm hoping I can eventually find a group to play with in this style.. Though I have to work on my comm skills first.

Wish the A-10 could carry HARM
Strange that it can’t, right? Seems like a no brainer to make that a thing but I guess it was never an operational need.
Usually wanna be going close to at least Mach 1 when releasing a harm a10 ain't doing that.

I really wonder what you as a rotary guy thinks about the A-10. There is some overlap in mission profile between the A-10 and the Apache, isn't it? Is it that the Apache is more of a Lurker during operation while the A-10 is called in when SHTF already?
