Tim Foust (the Bass for HF) lives not too far from me, we've been friends forever, they've taken me on tours (a lot of the time I carry some equipment for them) help by being a volunteer roadie and setup. I love Austin like a brother and he does When a Man Loves a Wonam beautifully. The origianl was by Percy Sledge was done in 1966.
That is Austin Brown, the high tenor of the group. His soulful high tenor is amazing, his runs are rediculous, for more of him check out "When a Man loves a Woman". Rob Lundquist is the tenor (as well as Adam Rupp the vocal percissionist when not beatboxing), Tim Foust is the bass with a 5+ octave range, Adam Chance "Chance" is the bariton that covers bass when Tim has lead and also has an incredible range, and Adam Rupp is the vocal percussionist. Adam has drum solos out there he does during the live shows....there is an older one that is fantastic (red flannel) and new ones whos him even better using a looper. These guys are legit.

Appreciate your time and attention! Thank you very much! Your subs are going to rise exponentially because of the Home Fry's ( the fans of Home Free) Take care and see y'all later!❤️🍟
These guys are all so talented. They lean towards country but they can do any genre including R&B. Rob sang this with so much soul along with Austin. They all can take the lead depending on whos voice is best for the song. Tim's bass is great as usual along with Adam's awesome vocal percussion. Keep up your journey through Home Free. You will not find a bad song.
If you want to see their fun side, please do the Butts Medley, it’s an older video with founder, Chris Rupp who is Adam Rupp (beatboxer) brother before he went solo. You will love it.
Shawn Stockman was one of the judges on The Sing-Off the year Home Free won. Shawn was very appreciative of Austin Brown (Ginger to you) and his voice. He gave Austin all kinds of compliments during the competition.
They’re so good. When they were on the show the Sing Off Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men was a judge and he loved them. I think they wanted to do right by him. Rob did a great job on the lead and Austin (ginger) killed it too. Blue Ain’t Your Color, Butts Medley, Helplessly Hoping to hear more great harmonies.
Oh, I gotta subscribe. Great reaction, props to your wife, too. As some said below, you should check out When a Man Loves a Woman. I think Austin was channeling the late, great Percy Sledge in that one and Adam's percussion is off the charts, not to mention the background harmonies by Chance, Tim, Rob. For fun, you might want to see Country Fried Pop Medley or definitely the Butts Remix. Merry Christmas.
The lead isn’t from the South…but, from Minnesota….cold country. Ginger, Austin Brown, is a Georgia country boy. He’s got one heck of a twang. He sang a lot in church choirs. Then, he went to university, & is classically trained in musical theater. He studied hard to get rid of the twang, then, Home Free wanted it back, for their country vibe.
Rob there is from Minnesota hehe luckily you didn't let her listen until Tim sang the bass part. PS yes Austin was a fan of Boys 2 men. Sean was one of the judges when Home Free was on the sing off. I believe this song was kind of a tribute to B2M but was a few years after their time on the Sing Off.
ahhhhhh.....i believe youd love their versions of "undivided" & "everybody walking this land". and listen to the messages after the videos. these guys are incredible, and take a HARD stance on their patriotism & beliefs in equality. Love your reaction!! New SUB!! :) Also "thinking out loud/let's get it on Mashup". make sure SWEETIE sees that one. ;)
I'm a country music fan.. oe hair bands... but I grew up listening to this in the 90's... love love love.. I still can't believe that they covered this so well. amazing.
I think also that the induction of the bass in this song is because it’s a “Cover” and needed some variation different from the original… And because they also wanted to give Tim time for him as well.
While HomeFree has been around since 1998, they really didn't get traction until they committed to a C/W sound, which is unique among a capella groups. They won a nationally televised competition, "The Sing Off" in 2013, and grabbed national attention. Even though primarily a C/W group, they have proved adept in all genres, including Jazz, pop, and, as you can see, Soul.
Austin really does look up to Sean ? from Boys to Men,he said as much when they won the sing off 2013 when Sean was one of the judges. He said when Sean told him he was a fan of Austin well he said that was his proudest moment right there. On the 10yr anniversary of the show they sung 'stand by me"in part together. It was fantastic .way to go homefree and great reaction as always.
The fact is THIS ENSEMBLE IS SO FAR BEYOND ANY OTHER VOCAL GROUP EVER .... it is clearly a case of "personal Preference" or bias to say this version is not better than the original - WHICH IS GREAT - not just not on this level and broad vocal talent, range, production and experience !
The high tenor has a you tube channel Austin Brown and he and his friends perfom song he has a black friend on piano and another on a guitar. In different songs. All of them are great. And Home Free covers a song they DON'T copy a song.
Wife Approved! 😂😂😂 Nuff said!! I’m a proud Home Fry and I loved your reaction! You haven’t even scratched the surface of them yet. You will find them amazing. You ought to check out their cover of My Church! Thanks for the real reaction … loved it! 👏👏👏😁

You should listen to Home Free's version of When A man Loves A Woman. The guy you said must have some black friends - Austin - takes the lead, and it is exceptional.
I gotta say it. Little Ginger (Austin Brown) is from Georgia. Of course he has Black friends. One of them collaborates with him on his singles, playing either guitar or keyboard. BUT...most people now don't realize the origins of the Black accent are from the deep south. With no intention of starting controversy, it's obvious that would be the case since most of the original population or Blacks in America learned English as slaves in the South. We're losing that way of speech by both races more as time has passed. The thing is, it's the richness of the voice that makes all the difference in White soul and Black soul. I mean, physically. It's the timbre, the thick, rich honey in the black voice that white people don't and never will have. However a song comes from the soul, it will always present differently until the races fully merge. I like Austin's version of 'When a Man Loves a Woman', but it will never sound like Percy Sledge's original. I guess what I'm saying is that nobody 'learns' soul. You got it or you don't, like rhythm. It just sounds different. I really enjoyed your take on this cover. You're always real and upbeat and it's appreciated.
Hands down best comment. I personally think Chris Stapleton sounds like the James Brown closer than most in his rendition of This Is A Man's World but its not exact and shouldn't be. Both soulful voices stand alone but are unmistakably their own while sharing the same honeyed grit of blues legends.
This is a better comment than I got from someone else telling me I'm "Throwing race around" I do agree so isn't "Learned" but you definitely needs the right amount of influence to emulate it. They were on the Sing off and Shaun was one of the Judges. The "Ginger" is Austin Brown and he is from Georgia so lots of Southern roots.
I love it by boys 2 men but Home Free killed it big time. What makes it a great cover is they put their own unique style to it.
