I live up in the Yukon Territory and my go to hunting boot is Hanwag Trapper Top GTX they hold up better than anyother hanwag. Ive used my first pair for 6 years fighting forest fires, hunting and hiking, 2nd pair im still using 4 years later mainly hunting and hiking. Give these boots a try
Mark's pack dump videos are the best as far as I'm concerned. I always pick up some tip I can use. I'm still rocking a Tenzing CF13 because of a video he did years ago before EXO was started.
@@Jaemillz09 To go with the 900 over 850, you'd be spending $80 to save about an ounce. I don't remember if it was the same price and weight difference when I bought (4+ years ago), but it wasn't worth it to me at that time.
It honestly varied by day. Some days were far more intense. Some days we didn't move nearly as much, or were weathered in for most of the day. I drank by feel, but didn't track intake. Total daily calories packed were in the 3700-4000 range and I always consumed what I had allocated for the day, but was satisfied.
Wow, great review. You should look at the MTN Gear Stick for a trip like this! Crazy winds. Guess this is the scenario where the weight of a Hilleberg Soulo would be worth it.
I had used the Mtn Stick on my mountain goat hunt. It is a good option as well. The Soulo has a tougher fabric than the Niak, but still has the 9mm poles. It would have been interesting to see how the Niak with 10mm poles would have performed.
@@ExoMtnGearthose were pretty tough conditions. I've used the Soulo in NZ tops conditions, much better design to handle heavier winds (Red label) over the Naik (yellow). Don't think 10mm poles on the Naik would have made a difference. Guess that's the risk when you hunt big country.
Appreciate the post-hunt, in-depth AAR. I'm curious if the guides tent was flattened, and if not what was he using? I almost bought a niak for an upcoming Dall's hunt, but have been on the fence about 9mm vs 10mm, etc.
The guide was using the same tent and it was laid flat, but the poles didn't break. When my poles broke I was outside of the tent, whereas the guide was in his tent at that time supporting it.

Could I get more details about the scoped action cover? I’m running a 7 saum in a folding MDT. The cover I’m using now isn’t built for a chassis. It works but, definitely not ideal. Thanks
We haven’t measured it, but it is less than you think. Our fabrics are very water-resistant and the closed-cell foams we use do not absorb water like traditional foams would.

If the whippet (sp?) on the trekking poles can't last 1 hunt, I do not consider it worked 'OK

@snoop2477 agreed, a Soulo or Akto would have been more suitable
So they only replaced one boot? Seems like bare minimum effort for customer service if that’s the case
They replaced the pair (both boots had failed), but it took more effort/convincing that it should have.
