Greetings again Mitchelli from Wisconsin. Your video on the oil change for the Can Am Defender is the most complete and entertaining of any. I purchased a 2024Can Am Defender Max Limited because of the overall machine characteristics and build quality. The only thing I hesitated on was this oil change filter location. When I do the first change, I'll be thinking of you. Love your quote, "these Can-Ams-they keep on your toes!" Best regards. Mark
Thanks Mark you're more talented than I...I'm sure you'll do fine. The Can Am oil changes are brutal...omg they are just time consuming. Keep the videos coming thank you. Ride safe and in peace.
Oh boy if it was easy everyone would do it. My jobs never go as easy as the manual would lead you to believe...but you know that. Thank you and stay safe.
I have been servicing my 2017 commander since new. It’s a pain . I have the engine and transmission oil change down to a couple hours now. Setting up and access is the hardest part. The defender actually has very good service access from what I can see. I jack the machine up and set it on pads for easier access underneath. Knees and back are important also. Lol. Nice job.
Lloyd I agree with you. You can get a system down. The first time I changed the oil on my Outlander I scrapped the video it was a wrestling match with the body panels...just crazy. Thank you be safe
You definitely don’t have to do any of that to remove the filter. It definitely is in a bad location but can be done fairly easy still reaching around under the box. I just changed mine out in a few mins with no issues.
I’ve had several Polaris and can am machines. One thing I’ll say is that can ams are a pain to work on compared to Polaris. I’ll be doing an oil change on my defender soon. I’m going to try removing the filter from under the bed but it looks horribly difficult especially with big hands. Hoping my Milwaukee ratchet will make it easier to access.
took me two hours just to change filter and put it all back together. i guess we owners will have to come up with a remote kit for these things so we can move the filter to a more saner location.
Boy oh boy are you right. Rzr pro oil change would’ve taken me an hour if I had the correct oil wrench. Let’s stay positive good job changing your own oil 🙂
I've changed my oil and filter on my 2020 Max Limited without removing seats, liners, etc. Snaking one's hand around hoses and removing the cover and oil filter isn't easy, but I've done it twice. Just don't drop those bolts or tools in the abyss!
Gregg i didn't research that far. This is my procedure for the limited as the air compressor would cover the old filter location. Thank you for the compliment I try to do my best
@@maraudermitchelli Thanks for the reply mate been watching your channel for the tractor content but also just bought a Ranger. I did the same 25hr first service but will most likely do next service every 100hr as I’m in a mild climate with no snow and the machine is used only for light farm work.
89 INCH POUNDS is approximately just short of 7.5 foot pounds. There are 12 inch pounds in one foot pound. Don't confuse the two or you WILL have stripped or broken bolts.
Rotax is a great engine...but on most Can Am's oil changes are not fun...You should watch my Polaris oil change it's about an hour. Be safe and good luck choosing.
They rotated the filter 90’ on the limited because the a compressor would be covering it. I only know of one other video of a defender limited oil change and he didn’t show the actual filter change. Btw you’re correct other than specifically stating limited I should of explained the ac compressor, I wish I could edit once posted
@@jpbarley did yours ever come in? I waited almost 3 months on a blue one. They finally had a silver one come in so I ended up taking it instead of waiting any longer
Chad there is no way i could reach in front of the motor on a cab defender...If you can that's impressive. i was worried about dropping a bolt with the panels off in the cab. When ever i drop a bolt in the frame it's rickoshay rabbit lost forever I hate that. I appreciate you commenting thank you.

Awesome design Can-Am
Well I don't know that I would say that...it's a lot of work compared to other manufacturers
@@maraudermitchelli I was being very sarcastic and I enjoyed your video.
@@pjfan173 oops sometimes I lack a sense of humor. Defender is a great machine...but oh boy servicing any Can Am not fun. Thank you
I just loved it when you said " I dropped a socket". I've been wrenching for 50 years , and I can't even recall how many times that's happened.

I am not a very mechanical guy, your video walked me thru the oil change. excellent video, Thank You !!!
Paul you made my night, I'm so.happy the video helped thank you for sharing with me. Collect tools and keep your wrenches turning. Defender in peace!
Life saver of a video!!! What a PITA oil change! Better than paying somebody to do it!
Ryan comments like yours keep me creating videos. I'm glad the video could help you. Thank you for supporting my channel.
That bungee cord is probably one of the mechanics secrets to make it easy I bet you
I should’ve thought of it sooner
Nice tip on the bungy cords
You're welcome i hope it helps you
Good job! If I find myself in a Can-am dealership I'll be sure to negotiate free lifetime oil changes...
Smart Roy...real smart! These oil changes wow so sad right. Stay healthy

Agreed but i don't think you can change the transmission fluid without following these steps. thank you
I really appreciate your attention for doing things correct, is there no other way to change the filter?how often does it need to be changed?

Thank you for posting this video. Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket filter relocation kit in the works for the Defender Limited?
I don't know of any, but one of my viewers thought there was one for the defender. Good idea I hope you find please let me know.
Great video. I’m doing mine tonight hopefully it goes as smooth as yours.
I'm sure it will...this was a pretty detailed video. Thank you and great luck ;)
Wow that oil still looks great! What’s the service interval on these?
First oil change 25hr then every 50hrs I think 🤔 thank you for watching

I do confuse the 2...and you are correct. Thank you for explaining I'm a hack mechanic. Be safe
Wow that’s crazy I don’t think Polaris does that do you know crazy crazy crazy
Pat I'll have one less Can Am in several weeks. I hope you're riding the trails.
2021 defender limited oil filter change in 10 minutes just need mechanic fingers
Oh man you are so right...so right I've lost my touch. Thank you for supporting my channel be safe.
I am looking at either a Polaris northstar ultimate or can am defender ltd and this is a negative item that makes me think Polaris
Rotax is a great engine...but on most Can Am's oil changes are not fun...You should watch my Polaris oil change it's about an hour. Be safe and good luck choosing.
Not making any sense. Did they change the location of the oil filter? Other videos i see its very easy to get to

Def taking that to extreme must been bored that day , alot easier reachin to the front of motor and be done alot quicker

I see why you traded it in.
LOL...it's a chore to change the oil. Thank you for supporting my channel.
I think you mean 80 inch pounds not foot inches.
Dave you're probably right...not a professional. thank you for catching that I have to remember.
Foot pounds
Pat it's in inches for filter cover or newtons smaller calibration i believe
I guarantee you its not ft. lbs. You'll have those little heads twisted off or threads stripped at about 30 ft. lbs.
Did mine yesterday I own several pieces of machinery and this is by far the dumbest setup I have ever seen from a manufacturer
The Can Am outlanders are even worse...especially when changing the transmission fluid. Aside from the services they are excellent engines. Be safe
@@maraudermitchelli That is crazy there even worse , yes far more reliable than Polaris that’s for certain. Thanks for the video
