A Will Stelter original.....that's awesome. I've watched him and Alec Steele when they were working together and they're both great and very entertaining.
My machine scratch one of my bags to where I couldn’t buff it out. So I scotch taped all the screw heads and rough areas of the machine and so far has worked fine for me
You do really beautiful work on your own and also from other people’s patterns. I really liked what you said about learning about leather work by working from someone else’s patterns, and the freedom of working from an existing pattern with known parameters. Like you in this video, I’ve been considering that I might like to learn and grow from working with and modifying someone else’s existing patterns. It would definitely remove some of the fear of messing up a bunch of leather on something I’ve only done semi-successful mock-ups of in felt!!! I love the modifications you made to this bag, and definitely recognize the frustration of working on something and discovering only afterwards that it has been scratched or damaged in the process of making it. Thanks for sharing your process. Really, really beautiful work.
Really nice work, and super nice presentation, your lack of pride in allowing us to see your errors is noteworthy,we all have them but most hide them. It is all learning. I like the leather washers and the thread color is perfect.
Wonderful video. Thank you. I am picking up the hobby after working many decades. I still work full time but have become rekindled with the hobby and I’m super excited and motivated to learn.
Hey I love what what you create. Your workmanship is the best I have seen. I am an appliance repair technician and want a service/tool bag that will serve my customers and I proudly. Let's talk.
Tanner. Another wonderful video. Clean, concise and really informative. No one has (up to this point) come up with the perfect method to apply Tokonole to edges without it getting all over the front of the piece. Still working on that. I have seen: Fingers, wire applicator, micro applicator bottle, tiny foam in an alligator clip. Tried most of these. I still get splotches on my front facing pieces. But, thanks for video. Shows the importance of having a really good walking foot sewing machine. Some day. Maybe.
There was almost a childlike excitement in your demeanor. That just really solidifies what I already knew, and that was your real enjoyment in both the craft, and sharing your experiences with us as your audience. Excellent work, excellent video. Keep 'em coming! Thanks for a quality experience
Can you do a video on using your Cobra 4? I have the cowboy equivalent and struggle with nice clean stitching on the back side. Especially after back stitching.
Thank you SO much for uploading this video. It's great to see a craftsman advocating learning from someone else's pattern. So many who have been making their own patterns tell beginners to make their own, which is rather disheartening sometimes even if it is probably sage advice. To make your own, you have to learn what pitfalls there may to consider in making one. Lots of those things are learned best by using someone else's pattern first, at least that was the case for me. You're the first person I have seen who has (publicly) identified the positives in doing so; the ability to focus on getting the details right while still knowing you will produce something useful even if it's not perfect, and that you won't waste a whole load of expensive leather. Really refreshing, thank you!
I really identify with what you said at the beginning of the video, I also get uncomfortable using other maker's patterns because it feels like I'm being lazy by not putting in the work to be a good designer or I feel guilty like I'm stealing. I have been trying to get better at telling myself that these patterns are available because these makers want to share and also telling myself that most of these makers probably learned using other people's patterns and have incorporated what they have seen and learned into their own designs. As I'm trying to expand my business and skills as a leather artisan I'm going to be acquiring bag patterns from makers so I can use what they have learned and applied. Thank you for the video
That’s awesome- we share that feeling then! I think there’s so much we can learn from each other, and in fact you can see many ideas in this bag borrowed from old military satchels, like the one seam turned in and the other one turned out. I think it’s cool, and a great way to try new things! Have fun, and thanks for watching, Tyler!
It's people like you that get me excited to start with leathercraft. Thanks for the generosity of your time making these videos for us. Happy new year!
Great job. I've done a similar project for x-mas . Used a gift bag from the drug store and making leather gift bags. So it's a gift bag as a gift bag . Thanks for the video.
I have this pattern also. Currently building two of my own design from scratch. I do appreciate your videos. Great job. Kind of envious of that Sears anvil.
Glad you picked Parker's pattern. Such a great guy and as far as the scratch goes, when you're rooted and grounded in your faith,no worries. Nice tutorial, keep the faith my friend and blessings on you and your family. As ever just Tom 🤠
Cheers from up the road here in Missoula. Glad I found your channel. Well edited. Missoula copy center is a great resource for large prints too if you find yourself in town. Used them for a kayak build. Very affordable. Thanks for the videos.
The video turned out awesome Tanner! Thanks again for the attaché. Super classy! And the best part is it’s made by someone that is a real blessing in my life. Thank you!!!
You are right on target, as I make all my own patterns & prototypes and it can be very stressful in the design & initial build(s) keeping a lot of factors in mind. The few times I’ve used another makers pattern… it’s was a very calming & enjoyable process. Thanks for sharing!!!!
Man you work as smooth and professional as anyone I’ve watched… and I’ve watched pretty much everyone. How long have you actually been working leather??
I have been watching leather videos to learn for most of my 5 years doing leather work. I think I learned more in this video than almost any other, or others combined! A genuine pleasure to watch you work, and I can feel your passion for the craft and teaching echo through your voice. Fine job!
Wow, I can’t tell you that means! Thank you so much for watching and letting me know that. I do love the craft, and it sounds like you do too, Ian! Hope to see you on the next one!
Thanks so much, Daniel! That means a ton! I’m really glad you watched- hope to see you on the next one! (And yes, very cool pattern from Stock & Barrel!)
Fun Video, I appreciate the time you take to make and edit them and the knowledge you impart to your viewers on how you are doing what you are doing. Great stuff, tks!
Great video Tanner. Very clear and no nonsense😉...where did you get your cool pattern knife from? I have big hands and all the other tiny pattern knives are very difficult to grip.😁
Amazing video and bag Tanner! Editing skills are getting amazing. I know that scratching the finished side pain, especially on a comissioned piece 😬. Keep up the great content! 🇺🇸🇨🇦
I've been binging on your videos today, thank you! I'm a long time leather garment designer/sewist and just getting into more leather craft type projects and gearing up my tooling for this. I've seen the link to the beveler you use, what size is most common for your work?
I love to watch your videos . You explain things so well! And your voice is so calm and relaxing. Could listen all day. I would like to know what size of a French gouge that you use. I need to buy one and I’m not certain what would be the most useful size.
Sorry for the late reply! Thanks so much for the kind words. I use 8mm and 12mm French skivers, from Palosanto. I actually like using the 8mm the most!
Great film Tanner with good details explained! I am new to leatherwork and have simply jumped in and purchased a Cowboy sewing machine. Would you be able to do a film explaining needle and thread sizes for such a bag like this? Many thanks for all that you share.
Hey Kevin! Great idea! I do look forward to doing a video like that. In the meantime, check out the Thread Exchange website (I'll link it here)-- they have some helpful info! I am using 23 needle and 207 thread. Congrats on the new machine!! Have fun! www.thethreadexchange.com/miva/merchant.mvc?Store_Code=TTE&Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=needle-size-chart
Looks amazing I definitely would have loved to see some hand “x” stitching on the brief case handle but that’s just opinion design and craftsmanship were perfected on this bag!! Great work
Cool video! Thanks. Just bought a pattern for the first time on a gun belt. Will have to watch Stock & Barrel make his gun belts too. Please tell us what kind of puppy you got. You will have wonderful memories with your dog. Just lost mine after 13 &1/2 years. Thanks again.
That should be fun! I’m sorry to hear about losing your dog. They’re so special. This one is a St. Bernard/Anatolian Shepherd mix… putting on 1/2lb every day!
Great video. I really enjoyed it. I'm new to sewing leather and am interested in knowing what size needle and thread you used on this project. The stitching looks great. Michael from Canada

Thank you for sharing this. Can you please share where you found the 'other' bag you have in the opening of this video? It's made with a lighter colored leather. Did you make a video for it?
I love your videos and patterns. Helped me get the confidence that I can do this too. Made my buddy a tool bag modeled after my DeWalt drill bag. Turned out well and he loves it. You taught me to saddle stitch. Now how do we do that Xbar stitch?
That makes my day! So glad to hear these videos have been helpful to you. I’d love to see that tool bag! I’ll try to do another stitching video soon! 🤜🤛

I prefer to come up with my own designs, acknowledging that there will be borrowed ideas, giving a nod to the originators, but also trying to be original. Thanks, Stuart! I used a side of Wickett & Craig traditional harness leather (5-6oz) and probably used 1/2 of it or so? I don’t think I could have made two from that side, if I recall. Thanks for watching!
@@ClaridgeLeather awesome! I mainly craft for a hobby but lately have been looking into starting to sell and am trying to figure out the best projects to start. Whole sides to whole hides can get rivet so I really appreciate your input! I really like you patterns and designs too!!
Beautiful work Tanner!! Thanks so much for sharing this🙏🏼
Thank you, Parker- I had a blast! 🙏🏼
Hi... I am making one Hand Stitched for me, with Indian Natural Vachetta Light (4-5Oz), but dyed with Smit Zoon . Will mail u after its done 🙏🏽.
That’s gona be a nice surprise for your friend. He will love it
So so good Tanner!
Thank you, Ryan! 🙏🏼
Fun project and nice job editing!! 😁👍
Thanks, buddy!

honestly I like yours a lot better than the one Parker did on the video of his build
