The Erie Canal was so good to us! Actually, all of NY has been good to us. Hope you enjoy meeting Ali’s huge family, they’re so fun. Also, final episode comes out Sunday, stay tuned!!
great great journey. To often, we lose connections with those we love, family & friends because everyone is so 'busy'. A special day and great food is an excellent way to bring everyone together. Love it! See you tomorrow for the Final Episode! I wonder how long it would take me to ride to Boulder to hang out? hmmmmmm.
@5:50 no shoulder to ride on - scary @9:50 bit more shoulder to ride on - that looks more comfy As a European, you wouldn't think the US is so bike friendly but the tow path rides look amazing.
I can't tell you how many times I've cycled, commuted, even kayaked up and down the Hudson River valley between New York City and the Catskills. There's so much history and beauty packed into a slow 100 miles. I'm actually crying while I write because everyday I'm grateful to call this place home. Thank you so much for sharing your journey.
I agree, meeting them was so fun, and put huge smiles on our faces for many days. I mean, who drives 2 hours to bring dinner to strangers? SO COOL! Thanks for watching
Ryan please do this every summer! Take a different route. It’s so freaking good. Imagine saying you have ridden across America every year for the last...ten years. You could probably become famous and get on a big tv show or something. This has been a really good season. Loved every video. I would love to do this one day! Thanks for the inspiration.
When I was little ,my brother and sisters and I would watch T.V. shows and become immersed in the lives of the characters on the show, only to remember it wasn't real; so seeing the both of you in your own "natural, real" environments is heartwarming. Thanks so much for all of the inspiring and authentic love, I can feel it all the way up north, here in Canada! And right now we need all the warmth we can get....Loveony'all Teresa G
This series is so interesting on so many levels. I love how you have probed and questioned everyone about love and successful relationships. So now I am curious of your views and experiences after spending so much time with each other in such an intense way. What is so interesting to me is you two have been together 24/7 for all of that time with no distractions from the world and just each other to lean on throughout this journey.
Love videos like this. Nothing beats getting together with family with a campfire. People have sat in front of fires for hundreds of thousands of years; it's in our DNA, but modern people rarely experience it.
Ryan, you don't just make videos you are an amazing story teller and I love each one that I have seen. I look forward to the final chapter of this one and the beginning of the next! I have heard many times that it's not what you make your videos with but the content you provide. I hope to one day produce the quality of material you gift us with. Keep up the awesome work!
Ok, I’m kinda tearing up here. First, I had no idea NY was so lush and beautiful. A ride through on the Erie Canal Trail is an “add” to the bucket list. Second, Ali’s family rocks. Big, beautiful, and amazing. I simply love this.
Biked many times on the Wallkill with my brother that lived in Lake Katrine (north of Kingston). He passed in 2015 from cancer. I miss him and the time I spent with him hiking and biking throughout the Catskill region. Ed from Michigan.
Beautiful .. congrats on such a great get together Ryan & Ali... Ryan.. your videos have really elevated in presentation... it must take a lot of effort to make and pick the best parts but you are doing an amazing job of telling the story.. much love and wish you both many more adventures together
I really appreciate content like this. To share your feelings about your childhood home takes me to my own feelings on my own journeys. I wish I could convey my feelings about cycling to my family in away that they could understand it the way I do.
Where is the love button?!? Getting those pre-season ending jitters knowing it will be over soon however I don't think it's going to be your last series either!! :) Ali's family gathering looked so great!! Thanks so much you two for opening your hearts to viewers - your lust for life and adventure is truly inspiring x
I have loved all of your episodes but I think this one is my favorite so far! Epic photography and wonderful people. What a great trip it has been. Thanks so much for sharing this with us.
Ugh! I don't know how I managed to miss when you two were coming through the Amsterdam area. I do 40 and 50 milers from Gloversville, NY to Amsterdam, up to Fultonville and home so frequently it is pure dumb luck (emphasis on the dumb) our paths didn't cross. We've enjoyed following your adventure. Thank you both very much for sharing it.
Wife and I got bikes 4 months ago. It's been a slow start. We go around town and have ventured into the farm land. It's been great. We're interested in seeing your next adventure.
Seeing you two with Ali's family brought back a ton of memories of my family when we use to have reunions and holiday get togethers. Really not looking forward to the end of your trip (I know you've been finished for a while)....It's been amazing to watch it unfold and to see you two grow together.
Ryan and Ali, I just found your channel and I'm loving it. I'm planning a bike trip in Colorado next summer, so I'll be watching more of the Colorado videos soon. But I was thrilled to see the Erie canal series. I'm planning a 3 week bike and kayak trip both directions on the canal as my first post retirement adventure 3 years from now - bike upstream and paddle back down. Your videos have added to my excitement for the trip. Thanks so much for the inspiration!
I loved that photo of your friends and the birthday bike ride song! Everything made me so happy as do all your videos. It really feels like us viewers were a part of this. Really awesome job and thanks for introducing us to your families. Looking foreword to the last hundred miles. No crashies no flatties no whammies no losties! Goal accomplished! PS Ali lives in a fairytale land! That’s exactly what it looks and feels like when I read those stories
Hey Ryan and Ali, I just discovered your Love Cycles series 2 weeks ago, and I've been watching a couple videos each day(sometimes more). I've been bycicle touring since 2010, doing one ride each year. Some were small, some were big. But each was an adventure. I held out on commenting because I wanted to watch the whole series before saying congratulations. After watching this video though, I wanted to say to Ali: "Hello Neighbor". I grew up and lived just north of New Paltz. Phoenicia, NY('95-2001) and Saugerties, NY(2002-2015) were my towns. I recently (May 28th to June 22nd 2018) had my own bike tour, from where I live now in Rock Hill, SC to Saugerties. And back. I did it to celebrate my Birthday with all my family and friends, and it was an amazing trip. It's too bad the timing didn't match up and the chance was missed for us to run into each other. Thank you Ryan for your amazing videos, and for bringing us all with you on this fantastic adventure. I wish both of you the best, and send and e-hug. (>^--^)> -Travis
Hello Travis!! It woulda been so cool to run into you on your tour, we'll have to plan better next time! Thanks for watching our series. Bike touring is the so fun, as you know! Happy trails my friend and eHUGS right back atcha!
Ali, you are truly blessed having such a wonderful family. You’re BLessed and I guess you’re a hippie which now officially makes you a blippie and Ryan, man, they are all so pretty, you really are one fortunate guy! Yes, the trip is coming to an end, sad in a way, yet I can’t wait to see you ride into NYC. This video was not so much about riding bikes, yet it was the best one so far- because there was love all around, even without you asking anyone for love advice; it was just there...
Such a happy video. Loved meeting your family Ali...kinda got sad there at the end...only 100 miles! You guys can knock that out in a day. Bet you have a nice welcoming committee when you get to NYC! Can't wait to your next video. Hopefully, you will be planning the next adventure that you can share with me and all your other fans to look forward to! Hugs to both Ryan and Ali. Happy bike ride to you...
Wow, home-made cake, glasses, and china plates. That next gas station lunch and water stop somewhere/sometime are going to be a long fall down!! Congratulations!!
We loved it!! I’ve seeing what you’re getting yourself into. What a beautiful family. So down to earth! We are looking forward to tomorrow’s release. Until then, the family is sitting down and we ate rewatching your Cuban ride. 🚲🚲
Well I.Never knew America had canals I though it was an English, French and Dutch thing exclusively. The country is so diverse from so dry to so northern European and green.on the east.
I love it guys living in western new york as a cyclist I ride everywhere except the canal LOL! This has been super inspiring to see your home state and encourage riders to get out on the trail and see all this beauty NY has to offer. Keep up the great work I can only imagine the editing project this is.
I was taken with the 'happy bike ride' song! Nice bit of improvisation! I'm surprised that Ali wasn't crying the whole time you were with her family; would have been a fantastic time for you both. I 'sort of' look forward the final episode......
Now that I have seen you ride many of the trails I ride in NY, including the muddy Wallkill Valley Rail Trail in New Paltz where I live, and across the whole continent both urban and suburban, on and off road ... I am getting those same tires you wore out on this trip for my bike. SO SAD this video series is coming to an end.
As I watch this for the 2nd time.. Erie Canal is a special place.. Erie canal song is great.. 2 lady's bring you great food.. Hoping to do Erie canal more sooner Than later.. your videos are worth watching twice... :)
You certainly have met your goals on this trip. Thanks for all the awesome trails you gave me. I'm assembling my tadpole this weekend...gonna create some Tadpole Tales! lol Very inspiring, you two...
Im watching this video series for the 2nd time, and more and more again it peaks my interest to do it. Except ill be starting from San Francisco- LA- chicago-New York. Such a-beautiful world you got to experience. Seriously thank you Ryan and Alli, you truly are a team of inspiration to keep going out there and letting the universe sidetrack you from getting there, and that is truly one of the many points of riding across America. I do plan on doing it and hopefully ill check out ragbrai.
Quite the adventure! Thank you for sharing it all with the world! Crossing the Schoharie Creek at 2:59 - did you stop into Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site? It is a GREAT Place to view the original as well as enlarged Erie Canal! Just off the trail is the Visitor Center on Schoharie Street in Fort Hunter, and a few miles east of that is Yankee Hill Lock. Awesome you camped out at Lock E11 in Amsterdam, NY! 3:42 It has undergone a lot of repair work in recent years. Across the river was Guy Park Manor built in the 1760s. Any chance you checked out the southside of Amsterdam?
Thanks for showcasing upstate New York so beautifully. So many visitors think that NYC is all there is, and never get to enjoy the countryside just north of the city. I'm curious to see whether you use a bridge/boat/tunnel to get into Manhattan. Ride on, you two!!
Hey Ryan, man I wish I kept up to date on your videos so I could come meet you! Believe it or not I live right near New Paltz (Rosendale)! It's so weird to see my town on your video, like "hey that looks familiar.." Stay cool!!!
Thanks for this excellent series and, in particular, this segment on the Erie Canal. I love the fact that you aren't just white knuckling your way through the journey, but you are actually stopping to savor the local history and sights. In fact, you have inspired me to do this next week! I am taking the train from NYC to Buffalo, picking up my new wheels (bikes are currently sold out in NYC!), and I'm "credit card touring" my way back to NYC. No big international trips for me this year thanks to our butthole president's complete failure at controlling the pandemic. So, in a way, perhaps it is just destiny that this pandemic, along with your positive cycling energy, have rekindled my love for biking as well as my interest in the hidden places in America.
The Erie Canal was so good to us! Actually, all of NY has been good to us. Hope you enjoy meeting Ali’s huge family, they’re so fun. Also, final episode comes out Sunday, stay tuned!!

As a European, you wouldn't think the US is so bike friendly but the tow path rides look amazing.
I have to say I shed a tear when Allys family sang Happy Biking song. So much love...
Me too, it was so sweet, and spontaneous.
It's such a beautiful area, I feel very lucky that we got to end our journey in this way! Thanks for watching our adventure, more to come on Sunday
That's LOVE! A family to drive out to you, check on your safety, bring you food and comfort. PURE LOVE!
It was pure love indeed
The photo of Ali, Patty, Connie, and yourself is the definition of good vibes. It made my heart very full and I dont even know any of you. So awesome!
I agree, meeting them was so fun, and put huge smiles on our faces for many days. I mean, who drives 2 hours to bring dinner to strangers? SO COOL! Thanks for watching
Ryan this whole series is an awesome piece of Americana. It should be preserved!
Thanks John! Hope it's preserved on youtube for a long long time

It's impossible not to get emotional. You are so incredible.
I agree :)

I agree! Love camp fires...they're always a little bit magical
That family reunion is about the sweetest thing I've seen in a long time. I think the theme of love has taken deep roots there. Truly beautiful.
"I cried every...single...time"
I think we can all relate to this!
Ryan, you don't just make videos you are an amazing story teller and I love each one that I have seen. I look forward to the final chapter of this one and the beginning of the next! GREAT Funny face photo! So sad that's it's almost over, but so glad to be "on" the experience with you two.
I'm a pro at funny face photos
Fantastic Ryan Ali, another amazing adventure, seeing Alis family and all them amazing people on the way,,,,, just magnificent ❤️❤️❤️😁👍

I used to drive past the Macy Lock (20) every day to work for a decade. Neat! Watching your LoveCycles series great stuff, inspiring!
Very cool! That part of the USA is so beautiful! I miss it
I so want to do the Erie Canal Trail!
Thanks for another great video! Be safe!
Ryan, we all know what's next, "Ryan and Ali bike across the world". Awesome ride so far, great filming and editing.
That would be an epic ride!
Wow!!! What a celebration to finish!! Simply awesome!!
it was such a great way to finish!

I have a tiny family so its crazy to see the clan that Ali comes from, woah thats quite a crowd
My family is tiny too! You'll see them all again on the next video...which comes out SUNDAY!
Nonoririko Her foamy must be Irish Catholic or something :-)
@9:36 - I'd want the saddle to be higher so the leg is straight at lowest point in the pedal circle but that's just me - if it works, it works!
A memories....🙂...
I have loved all of your episodes but I think this one is my favorite so far! Epic photography and wonderful people. What a great trip it has been. Thanks so much for sharing this with us.
Thanks, I agree, loved editing this one
Awww, "Happy bike ride...." made me all misty- eyed.
Larry Reily me too! That was a fun spontaneous moment:)
you're in my back yard here too. 10 miles west of the rip van winkle bridge. locals united!
You have a very nice backyard! We loved that area
The love of a family is one of the purest loves there is. Thanks for sharing.

Hey this is great. I’m retiring in
Sounds like a great plan!
Now that I have seen you ride many of the trails I ride in NY, including the muddy Wallkill Valley Rail Trail in New Paltz where I live, and across the whole continent both urban and suburban, on and off road ... I've been riding vicariously through you two.
