Hi, i have just finished my blue card visa application and would like to share to everyone my experiences. I registered for an appointment with the embassy on the first week of June and got a confirmed appointment after 10 weeks (3rd week of Aug). While waiting for the appointment date, i applied for ZAB statement of comparability and after nearly 4 weeks, the document arrived. I submitted all my documents on the appointment date and just after two days, I received an email from the embassy that my visa has been granted and ready for collection.
Hello! I live in France, I registered for the appointment in the first week of February, and my appointment was scheduled for the last week of April and I received visa approval email in 4 weeks(Might have been faster if not for the streak of public holidays every week) .
Keep in mind: if you are an engineer, doctor, lawyer, architect, be aware that the recognition from Anabin or ZAB will not be enough; check if you need an official recognition with the regulated careers.
Thanks for the comment Joseph! It's indeed very important to look out for regulated professions. This website by the German government can also be helpful for this: www.anerkennung-in-deutschland.de/html/de/index.php
I live in Germany already 3 and a half years. The first 3 years were work visa, and now I have Blue Card. For various reasons I am considering to quit my job, but I am afraid of losing the residence permit if I do so. I'd like to know: would the Blue Card be valid for the remaining 3 and half years I have, even without a job? Asking because I would like to have a break before starting to apply for a new job. Thanks a lot for the videos! :) As suggestion of new videos, would be interesting to learn about the possibilities as an Ausländer on these tricky scenarios, or the experience from others.
Hi Wesley, thanks for your note. Unfortunately the EU Blue Card is tied to your employment in Germany and loses its validity if you stop working. If you quit your job then you have three months to find a new one. Hope this helps!
Very informative video. If there are no available dates for visa appointments there is a possibility to book via the contact form on the official German embassy website.
Hi Jana, thank you again for the videos. As you asked in the video, I applied from Dublin to the visa appointment, I could select a date for the next week but I chose one for the next 2 weeks to gather my docs. I wonder how long they take to issue the visa,my qualification is recognised in Anabin. Happy to hear back from you...
Hi Oscar, sorry for taking so long to reply. How did it go with your visa application? My experience is that it currently takes 1 to 2 months of processing for our cases in Ireland.
@@HalloGermany Hi, it took 2 weeks, I had the Zustimmung der Bundesagentur und Anabin Register, I guess that did the quick response. I am already working in D.
Hello, thanks for the video is really useful! I have just one doubt regarding the degree certificate: The page says: 'We will need to see the original degree certificate or a copy either notarised by a notary public or certified by the issuing academic institution.'. If I have my degree certificate orginal, I do not have to present any apostille? If do not have the original degree, does a certified copy scanned by my university with a stamp saying "faithful copy of the original" comply? Thanks!
Hi, the exact requirements depend on your specific location and case. I would suggest to check the website of your local German embassy, they often provide document checklists that are quite helpful.
Guten Tag. Danke.
Hi Jana. Thanks for the Video. I'm from India and got an offer from German employer and received from employer. My question Is and both are same? Can I the book the Visa slot as fast track with Bundesagentur für Arbeit ?
Hi, congrats on your job offer! The fast track procedure can only be initiated through your employer in Germany. Alternatively, you could start collecting the documents for your visa application. Maybe our step-by-step guide would be of help here: hallogermany.com/blog/blue-card-visa-application
Hello Jana, thanks for this video, it's very informative. I am currently living and Denmark, I have a work contract and meet the requirement for a blue card. Can I apply for a blue card directly or I still need to apply for a national visa/ work permit?
I am in the same situation too. I am in Schengen zone and have a contract from german company. Please let me know if you can find out that do we need german visa or can directly apply in germany... thx :)
Hi, it depends on your nationality but in most cases you need a work visa (national visa) that can be converted into a corresponding residence permit later on. It's for example not possible to convert a tourist visa into a residence permit for work purposes.. however there are some exceptions for countries like the US. Maybe our visa check could be of help? hallogermany.com/#visacheck
Hallo Jana,First of all thanks for the details provided in video,My doubt is if I have applied for a employment visa to Germany consulate with (x company) in between If I get a good offer can i apply visa with new offer please let me know.
Thanks for the video. I'm already in Hamburg, Germany on ICT and now have an offer. I'm about to start the EU blue card application. But worried as the HWC document checklist says they need legalization of the qualification. I already have eAT (or scheduled to pick up soon on 27/06). Do you have any clue about this specific case?
Hallo Naveej, first of all congrats on your job offer! Sorry, I think I can't really be of help here. It really depends on the case manager. Since the EU Blue Card is a different residence title, it's likely that the documents will be requested again. If it is possible for you, I would try try to organize the documents or alternatively, you can hand in your application and will receive a request to submit missing documents in case they don't accept it. We also offer residence permit application support, just in case you are looking for assistance with preparing your residence permit application: hallogermany.com/services-for-internationals/p/visa-and-relocation. All the best!
Hello Janna, your video was so helpful. My brother has a work visa in Germany for Mc Donalds for 6 months, he studied Mechatronics in Kosovo and he wants apply for recognition of his diploma in Germany, do you know if it is possible to apply for recognition of the Diploma in Anabin without a contract? I would really appreciate your help. Thank you in advance :)

Hi, thanks for your comment and sorry for taking so long to reply. Your brother can apply for recognition without a job offer in Germany! It would be good to get this done before he has a finalized job offer because the processing can take some time. Hope this helps! :-)
Hello, thanks for such informative videos. Kindly let me know which address should the applicant mention in the section "Residence in Germany" in the Blue Card visa application form? Should we just mention the address of our employer in that section? Because we can only find accommodation after our visa arrival
Hi Jana , thanks for the details. but my case is, I am already in Germany on my job seeker visa and about to get the work contract from the employer . What are different steps that would be applicable for me ? and any idea on how long it is going to take get appointment and blue card arrival ? will it be faster than what you have mentioned in the video for the case where the application are from home country . Note , I live in Taunus district in Hesse state , I have bank account here, Tax number generated already as I made city registration , going to apply for insurance . Thanks in advance for any inputs.
Hi, congrats on your job offer! I guess the next step would be to book an appointment with your local foreigners office to convert your residence permit. Unfortunately, I can't tell exactly how that will take without knowing your profile and documents. The processing times currently vary a lot across Germany. Maybe you know other candidates who live in the same city and can give you a reference? Also, our visa call could be helpful for you to get a time estimate: hallogermany.com/services-for-internationals/p/visa-questions-call.

Hey! Can you please help? What about if I already have a blue card issued by another eu country? Does that simplifies the process? I guess I don’t need a working visa and I can apply to the blue card directly rigth?
Hi Carlos, there have recently been some changes that are applicable for persons who hold an EU Blue Card from another EU country. Hi, do you know the processing time for blue card visa in Switzerland? Also, can you please send a link where I can find the list of documents required by german embassy in Switzerland?
Hi, as per my information, the current processing time in Switzerland is maximum 2-3 weeks. Please check the embassy website, they usually provide a document checklist.
Currently in this process. Signed the contract for the job in December. Wasn't able to get an appointment for the Consulate in my region until mid-February. Since then, I have been gathering my documents and literally needed all this time. I needed my ZAB certification. Sent my documents on 16 December but they didn't confirm receipt until 9 January despite spending $90 USD on express delivery to arrive on 20 Dec (and it did arrive then). 🥲 Paid my fee on 11 Jan, confirmed receipt on 12 Jan, got the verification by 18 Jan. Needed to get a reprint of my uni diploma, and due to IT issues at my Alma Mater, i got it today despite requesting on 30 December. Need an updated Erklärung from my employer due to change in start date because of late Consulate appointment. Thankfully, my employer is very patient! Also have my flights booked (fully refundable just in case) and my apartment lined up.😊 I've watched almost all the view on this channel, which have been super helpful.
Hi, congrats on making it so far and thank you for sharing your experience here. Really appreciate it! It's really sad to hear how long these processes take but I'm glad to hear that your employer is so flexible and that you'll be able to start your job soon. All the best!
Hallo Jana,In my case the employer have given contract as Engineer so the consulate is asking me the Annerknung in Deutschland this is not the one for degree but for thr profession recognition is it mandatory can i challenge the visa centre for the same.

Hello! I recently applied for the German Job Seeker Visa in Costa Rica, which was granted! That means I have advantages like all possible documentation the Ausländerbehörde could ask for, and I can live there. I'm in a pretty advanced hiring process with a company, and I'd like to get an appointment for the EU Blue Card now, as I know it can take months for the appointments to be made available. Do you know if there is an issue scheduling an appointment from somewhere outside of Germany for the Berlin office?
Hi Stephan, sorry for taking so long to reply. In general, you can also try booking an appointment with the Berlin immigration office from outside Germany. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to get appointments in Berlin, the site always appears as fully booked. If you don't manage to get an appointment before entering, you can drop them an email once you are here. See more info in this video: ruclips.net/video/5MXwKoB-4QU/видео.html

Hi Esat, we are currently experiencing very long waiting times of up to 5 months but apparently it depends on the visa type. I believe your visa got sorted by now :)
Hi, I have an appointment for Blue Card visa at German embassy in Rome after 2 weeks and I am curious to know if you have already received your visa by now and how was your experience at the embassy?
You mean to say that the waiting times for blue card applicants at the German Embassy in Rome are up to 1 month instead of up to 5 months (other visa types)? I also applied for the blue card at the German Embassy in Rome about 1 week ago. Another curiosity: upon approval, is another appointment required to collect the visa, or can you go whenever? @@HalloGermany

For Indian citizens, do we need to translate/apostille the documents? Because it is so confusing as India is part of the Hague convention but not valid between India and Germany
Hi Karan, it depends on the type of documents. You can usually find detailed instructions on this in the document checklists provided on the website of the German embassy.
Hi Jana! I have submitted my documents for a Blue card entry visa to the German embassy located in Budapest. Can you please tell me as per your past experience How much time it will take to hear a decision from german authorities about my visa as a non-EU citizen? Thanks
Hi Mayank, unfortunately I don't have any current insights into processing times in Budapest. Did you receive an update in the meantime? Would be interesting for other candidates to learn from your case!
I am a bit confused. Do I apply for the work visa and then the blue card? My embassy has 2 different set of required documents, one for the work visa the other for the blue card. Which one do I collect?
Hi Lando, if you are eligible for a Blue Card then go for the Blue Card forms. They will then issue you a visa that you can later convert to a Blue Card residence permit in Germany.
How does the embassy alert one on the status of their visa application? I applied for the national visa last week at the embassy and have no tracking number or anything like that. The website also says not to email them for status updates.
Hi, sorry for the late reply. How did things work out for you? From my experience, it depends a bit on your location. You will either get an email or a formal notification via post.
@@HalloGermany I only found out I had gotten the visa when picking up my passport from the courier a week later. They provided no way to track the application and sent out no notification once granted.
What would happen if a person obtains the bluecard, arrives in Germany and after six months is fired by that company. Can the person look for another job while in Germany with the bluecard visa in another company?
Hi, in this case, the person would have to inform the local foreign immigration authority which usually issues a job seeker residence permit for 3 months or longer.
I have around 12years of exp and I don't have the proof (experience letter) for the first 2 years. In the visa checklist, it's meant that i need to provide all the experience letters. What should I do? Just don't mention that first 2 years in the CV which i will be giving to embassy or in the CV say that i don't have this proof?
Hi, I would suggest to address this in your visa interview and be up front about it. Since you have so many years of work experience, it should hopefully be accepted.
Hello! I just wanted to rectify the information on waiting times in EU countries. I live in France and apply for Researcher's visa in Paris. The waiting time is 12 to 16 weeks before I can actually get an appointment. And waiting time for the visa delivery is another 3 months. I find those delays outrageously long. Based on experience of my collaborators from India who work in Germany now, the waiting time at the German Missions in India are much shorter.
@@kirandeshmukh1944 The main thing you need is the invitation letter from the hosting organisation with proof of income (salary) in it. Otherwise, the set of documents is pretty simple; you need to consult the specific Embassy to get the list because the documents might slightly differ.

Good morning and Happy Easter, I am looking for a job offer in Germany and planning to move soon, I am IT Engineer (holding Russian & Syrian Passports) living and working in Poland for 5 years and I have Polish EU blue card (based on Ru passport) , so I read that I can enter Germany without any problems but I need to apply for a German Card within a month, and my 2 questions: 1- If I met the Blue card requirement in Germany and wanted to apply for it, I read it may take up to 3 months to get it, does that mean that I need to wait till I got the card to start working, and I am not allowed to work before that time? so I can stay legally in Germany till my card issued and my company need to wait for me? what if it took too long and the company didn't want to wait? 2-How 5 years having Polish EU blue card can be transferred to the German one, or it can not? Thanks in advance!
Hi Alex, thanks for your comment. I'm happy to answer your questions based on my experience with our relocation cases: 1. Yes, processing times can be quite long. It really depends on the location you move to but especially in bigger cities like Berlin and Munich it usually takes a few months. As a non-EU citizen, you need a valid residence permit or visa allowing you to work in Germany. That's why often apply for a work visa abroad, even if the candidate would be able to enter Germany without one. This is a decision on a case by case basis but we had a few cases of non-EU citizens relocating from Poland to Germany last year and had good experiences with the visa application there. 2. You can read up about mobility with a foreign EU Blue Card here: www.bamf.de/EN/Themen/MigrationAufenthalt/ZuwandererDrittstaaten/MobilitaetEU/MobilitaetBlaueKarteEU/mobilitaet-blauekarteeu-node.html;jsessionid=8F8429DAD6BB30743143FE04A8C0EE42.intranet252 We have done this for two candidates last year, so it is possible if you fulfill the criteria. Feel free to reach out in case you need support!

Hi, if you apply for a visa to work in Germany, an address is usually not required. It is however needed once you are here and want to convert you visa into a residence title.
@hallogermany - do I still require ZAV pre-approval if my offered salary above the Bluecard limit ?? I asked my Relocation agency to get ZAV pre-approval for me to avoid long processing time. But they said for my case pre-approval is not required and they replied with little angry saying you just follow what we asked to do. Somehow I am not convinced with their answers. I really don’t want long processing time. How do I convince my relocation agency to get ZAV pre-approval for me ?
Hi, you don't need pre-approval if you apply for an EU Blue Card and make more than 56.400 € yearly gross salary. In some cases however, it can still be of help but usually the relocation agents know their way in their specific location. I hope you got your visa by now!

I am a Nationally Certified Draftsman from Sri Lanka. Please let me know how to apply for an EU blue card in Germany considering the attached CV and certificates if the qualifications presented are sufficient to work in Germany.
Dear Lalith, thank you for your comment. The first step always is to start looking and applying for jobs in Germany. In addition, it is very important to check if your qualifications are recognized in Germany. This is a decisive factor for your visa. Do you hold an academic degree? The EU Blue Card is unfortunately only available for academic degree holders. In all other cases, you would need to apply for a skilled workers visa and get a proof of recognition for your existing qualifications. You can learn more about this topics here: www.anerkennung-in-deutschland.de/html/en/index.php
Hello, I need your guidance, I have got an offer from Germany, HR has asked their internal team to start the Blue card process, just want to know who will initiate the Visa process? I have seen multiple vlog and everyone says Candidate has to initiate.
Hi, congrats on your job offer! You will have to book the visa appointment and initiate the process yourself. An agency or someone else can only do this on your behalf but only if you give them a power of attorney. Maybe the company is simply preparing the papers they need to provide you with and will then hand over to you? I would suggest to ask your HR contact about this. In case you need help with your visa application, do take a look at our visa call and services: hallogermany.com/services-for-internationals/p/visa-questions-call
I am from India. I recently completed my Master of Science at ETH Zurich, Switzerland in Robotics, Systems and Control. I have got an offer from ABB Munich to work in Munich & parallelly do PhD at TU Munich. So I need to apply now for Blue Card Visa to move to Germany. I saw that one of requirements was to submit a document from Anabin database stating that my university & degree are recognised by Germany. I was able to find that ETH Zurich is there in database with H+ certification. The MSc is also the in degree types. However, the specific MSc program I am in is not there in database currently but there are other similar MSc programs. So, as ETH Zurich is a renowned European university with H+, would it be fine if I give university proof and degree type proof in Switzerland's German Embasse?

Hi, good news! The salary threshold for the EU Blue Card will be lowered starting from November this year. In future, a minimum salary of 45.3% of 39,682.80 € will apply to bottleneck professions and graduates. For all other occupations, the salary threshold will be 43,800 €, so I guess you don't need to worry about this anymore. I will also publish updates on this soon!
Hi Jana! I have job offer from Germany for unlimited period from non EU from India. But the offer letter is not signed by the employer, They say in Germany it is illegal to sign offer cum contract without getting work permit as informed by company lawyer. They say erklaerung-zum-beschaeftigungsverhaeltnis, company invitation letter and offer letter is enough to get work permit then your offer becomes valid and it would be signed same has been written in company invitation letter. Is it valid can i go ahead for Visa processing?
Hi Aravind, this is subject to the decision making of the German authorities. I would suggest to try and apply with the documents you have at the moment but the document checklists clearly say that you need to provide an employment contract. Hi great video, just one query .... I mailed to the kolkta consulate ( the only place where i got reply from... my consulate is bangalore) regarding my eligibility for blue card. Their reply was like this; "You can apply for the blue card visa but the overall processing time will be longer. Exactly how much cannot be told right now." I have heard that bluecard applications are processed faster than the normal ones, but why they replied like this😟 Below is my query to the consulate; {I got a Ph.D. position in human medicine in Germany with a job contract. The gross monthly salary as per the contract is 4070.34 Euros which will exceed the annual gross salary limit for EU Bluecard for MINT professionals. Going through my blue card visa process in Uzbekistan right now. TLDR don’t recommend to do it here 😅. Anyways, my ZAB certificate took 1.5 months to get done, even though I’m a blue card candidate. They only sent me the invoice for the bank transfer after 2.5 weeks after they actually received the docs. And it took them 4 weeks instead of 2 to prepare the certificate after they said that they received my payment and start the process now. 😢 I managed to get an appointment in the embassy in 2.5 months and applied on may 10th. Only 3 weeks later they contacted to ask for additional documents and translations. My mistake was to make regular translation and not sworn ones, because apparently they need everything to be notarized. Only now, 4 weeks after I applied they said that the consul will start to process my documents. Whereas my friends in Turkey received their visa in 5 business days. So totally avoid the embassy in Tashkent if you care for your time and nerves 😅

Hi Oscar, sorry for taking so long to reply. How did it go with your visa application? My experience is that it currently takes 1 to 2 months of processing for our cases in Ireland.

Hi, yes I guess that should be possible but you would need to inform the embassy asap.
Hi, as per my information, the current processing time in Switzerland is maximum 2-3 weeks. Please check the embassy website, they usually provide a document checklist.
Hi, I have already applied for the EU Blue card but have yet to have a binding job offer or signed contract.

I am looking for a job offer in Germany and planning to move soon, I am IT Engineer (holding Russian & Syrian Passports) living and working in Poland for 5 years and I have Polish EU blue card (based on Ru passport) , so I read that I can enter Germany without any problems but I need to apply for a German Card within a month, and my 2 questions:
1- If I met the Blue card requirement in Germany and wanted to apply for it, I read it may take up to 3 months to get it, does that mean that I need to wait till I got the card to start working, and I am not allowed to work before that time? so I can stay legally in Germany till my card issued and my company need to wait for me? what if it took too long and the company didn't want to wait?
2-How 5 years having Polish EU blue card can be transferred to the German one, or it can not?
Thanks in advance!
Hi Alex, thanks for your comment. I'm happy to answer your questions based on my experience with our relocation cases:
2. You can read up about mobility with a foreign EU Blue Card here: www.bamf.de/EN/Themen/MigrationAufenthalt/ZuwandererDrittstaaten/MobilitaetEU/MobilitaetBlaueKarteEU/mobilitaet-blauekarteeu-node.html;jsessionid=8F8429DAD6BB30743143FE04A8C0EE42.intranet252

Thanks for sharing your experience Anastasia! And sorry to hear about your hassle.. I hope you are off to a good start in Germany though :)
