That song, always, makes me cry as that was, exactly, how I felt the first time I met my husband to be. My roommate insisted I meet her fiance's best buddy who had just arrived back from two years in Australia having been playing there & just returned to the states. I fought tooth & nail with my roommate that I did not do blind dates, but, when I met him the 1st time & saw his smile, I knew he was the one. I told him I was going to marry him on our 3rd date, I think. We married, many happy years together & he died 7 yrs. ago & I miss him, terribly. This song is the most beautiful song I have ever heard & does, indeed, stir up those wonderful memories.

i have had the rare good fortune to have met a few dozen of my film and music heroes when I was younger...Little Richard, Candy Candido, Merry Anders, Richard Boone, Michael Landon, and Peter Yarrow among them. I met Peter in the parking lot of the Sand Castle in Malibu and talked with him briefly about his music. He was a fine gentleman...and gentle man....and i thoroughly enjoyed telling him about the impact his music had made on me. I think this is, by far, the best version of this song ever recorded...no vocal tricks and run, jus a clear, plaintive message.

Mystical song as well one of the best love songs. I was raised in a lost kind of Catholicism, with spiritual joy the longed for experience of seeing God's face, consumed in universal and personal love,. I think every heartfelt love song arises from the soul, and is a blessing for all to hear.

P.S. : I still grieve the loss of Mary Travers. She had a voice like no other. Brilliant !
And now Peter is gone too
i have had the rare good fortune to have met a few dozen of my film and music heroes when I was younger...Little Richard, Candy Candido, Merry Anders, Richard Boone, Michael Landon, and Peter Yarrow among them.
The first time ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and stars were the gifts you gave
To the dark and the empty skies my love
To the dark and the empty skies
The first time ever I kissed your mouth
I felt the earth move in my hand
Like the trembling heart of a captive bird
That was there at my command my love
That was there at my command
The first time ever I held you near
And felt your heartbeat close to mine
I thought our joy would fill the world
And would last till the end of time my love
And would last till the end of time
Beautiful beyond words. Beautiful beyond words....
Beautiful song. It reminds me of the first time ever I saw my wife to be face.
I attended a Peter Paul & Mary Concert in N. Carolina in 1964 when I was in the U.S. Army stationed at Ft. Bragg, N.C.. Most fantastic singing I had ever heard. I kept hoping the concert would never end and just go on forever. I will never forget that memorable night. U.S. Army, Ret. TX
Thanks Richard for your service and for tuning in.
Mary Travers' voice is so beautiful. And the 3 of them together just perfect.
One of the most beautiful songs to be sung..ever!
This soulful rendition is a revelation! So gentle, so harmonious.
There will never be a group like Peter Paul and Mary that excited and involved their audiance when they performed.
Three voices. That were are pure magic
I saw them in small clubs and Carnegie hall and peace marches. They could perform with mikes and still sound wonderful
The Seekers
The Seekers
this is the most beautiful song ever!
Such beautiful harmonising - something we have lost since back then.
Lovely. Uplifting.
Mary, I love your voice, your passion, and your hair. Rest in peace, beautiful lady.
So poignant, so loving. I can feel the joy that must surely have filled Ewan MacColl's heart as he penned this beautiful tribute. Beautiful song, tenderly performed...just wonderful.
Awesome lyrics, takes us back nostalgically to our adolescent angst when most of us valued song and cheer above gold , so long.....
Beautiful
Beatiful music and the harmony . Wonderful.
Wonderful... Hard to describe the yearning to times when -- singing was real.
I agree, but Miley's song flowers is the best I've heard for some time. She can sing.
2:45 this is my first time hearing this version of Peter Paul and Mary do this song... I have to say that my first favorite singer though is Roberta Flack.. her version of the song kills me. This has its own sweet, folk-y flavor to it.. which is beautiful in its own right..❤
Just fabulous. The combination of a nylon and steel strung guitar is amazing and coupled with the voice of Mary Travers is amazing. So beautiful.
They were the sounds of my youth as my mother played guitar and sang all their songs and my cousins came up from Newton ma and played on holidays. Folk music was the thing back then and Mom played beautiful guitar and sang wonderful. Gosh I cherish those memories.
This gave me chills. Beautiful people, beautiful song, beautifully sung.
I had the privilege of seeing PPM in concert many Years ago and they were unbelievably magical.
I am jealous lol
@@potdog1000 If it makes you feel better, I can truthfully add that they sounded every bit as good as their records, so just play your faves, close your eyes, and visualise their presence.
I got to see them, too. Many years ago. Such a great concert.
@@katbowl9971 I also saw PP&M years ago in concert, and I didn't go to many concerts. I saw them in the old Island Garden in West Hempstead NY in '67 or '68. It was heaven! Halfway thru at intermission I thought it was over, but my old friend who I was with said no, it's only half over! Wow... more heaven, I thought!
@@kevinrussell6530 That's great! Lots of cool memories.
Saw them in concert in high school. They were so good live. Such a big part of the early folk song era. All you needed was a guitar, a few chords and you could sing a beautiful song. PPM were stellar. Pitch perfect and vibrant with such a great raport between them.
My dad recommended me to listen PPM's songs. I'm obsessed. I love how their voices blend perfectly. 😍 This is why I prefer old songs.
Yes, they really were that good.
Such a beautiful song. ❤
In those days singers could sing and musicians could play. Peter, Paul and Mary epitomized this musicianship.
Thanks for tuning in.
Brilliant! Peter, Paul and Mary were the greatest.
These three were the sound of my youth. I was fortunate enough to see PP&M live a few years back. Their voices were still so compelling. I miss Mary so much.
Mystical song as well one of the best love songs. I was raised in a lost kind of Catholicism, with spiritual joy the longed for experience of seeing God's face, consumed in universal and personal love,. I think every heartfelt love song arises from the soul, and is a blessing for all to hear.
Yet another pure performance by these gifted musicians
What a lucky woman to have someone write a song like that for you.
A beautiful song, from a wonderful group. Bring back the old days when millions of dollars did not come first, but amazing singing and music mattered most just like this song. Thanks for uploading.
Fabulous voices...all three ! We miss Mary !
The quality speaks for itself. Side note and personal opinion: Damn, Mary was beautiful!!!
For anybody born this century - This is what you can talent. No gimmicks.
I don’t stop listening to the 50s, 60s & 70 s music. Actually the 1940’s so full of love too...50’s fun music.
the greatest trio of all time no one even close
No collection of words I could imagine would accurately describe the beauty of this performance . . .
She was the best - amazing voice!!
Kudos to Ewan MacColl for his composition! The singers...Peter, Paul and Mary touch me most with their arrangement. Really like them all!
Very sad world we live in, we only get a short time on this earth, we go through enough pain in our lifes with our close family and our past friends who have passed away, why oh why can't we just live life in peace, and do away with all the suffering of war, so sad, seems it will never change.
Only sad when we focus on the bad things and cling to the past - we are surrounded by beauty and love, my friend. Embrace them every chance you get and hold tightly. I send you a big, virtual hug, Glen.
Tears in my eyes. Love from France 💐
Hi Maria💐💐
