- Former U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman's cause of death was due to complications from a fall at his brother-in-law's house in New York. According to the CDC, about 36 million senior citizens fall each year with 32,000 of them dying. Donald Trump's first wife died when she fell down the grand marble staircase inside her townhouse. Inside Edition’s Steven Fabian spoke with a safety expert who says staircases are especially dangerous.

Yes when you get older you have a lot of trouble with the stairs I'm only gonna be 59 next month and it's hard for me going up and down the stairs outside of my apartment sometimes. Your shoe can catch on a stare and there you go. My mom fell down the stairs back in 2002 in their two-story house and she broke her wrist

It's not always stairs. Two weeks ago my uncle tripped over his oxygen line and took a hard fall. His funeral is being held after Easter.

This is nothing to laugh about. I fell twice and it was not on the stairs and I am 77 years old. I fell at the age of 76 and also when I was 75. Now I use a cane to walk around the house and I walk very slowly.

@@ohwell2790 I have been a passenger on a motorcycle over 50 years ago. We went on the freeway once and then on the street, twice each time was about 15 minutes. I was really scared. I am glad you're enjoying your motorcycle trips. But I have seen some people killed on motorbikes and it's bad enough just driving in the streets of Los Angeles. No place is really safe anymore.

I’m a bit younger than Senator Lieberman but I suffered a bad fall last Sept. I sustained a compression fracture of L1. I take his fall and the words of this PT to heart. A bad fall could easily result in someone eventually dying.
Was it a displaced or non displaced fracture and how long was the healin process? My grandma just had one non displaced and now shes in a rehab center we want her home soon

@@bbygrlpt2 if she fractured a vertebra and it’s been within the last eight weeks…she might be eligible for kyphoplasty. I’m still healing and attending rehab. It takes time. But I live all on one floor. I had the outside steps demo’d and now have a handicap ramp from the driveway to my front door. And being on a rollator has been godsend. It most definitely helps with balance and strength.

They usually have a fractured hip. Don't know it. Brittle bones. Hip slips out of place.
I once fell walking upstairs. Crushed my arm pretty bad because I didn't know how to fall without getting hurt. Within the last few months, I managed to fall just on my knees, and I could prompt myself up from the back by swinging my arm behind me after impact so I didn't fall backward afterward. The first one left my arm pretty bad for years, though, and only now is it feeling 100 times better. (However, I still can't do some things I once could.)
