Like chatting to you nicest neighbour. Been burning an F3 here in Scotland for 10 years, and he's right. Never mind the Jotul instructions. Do what works for you, and yes, my door glass gets dirty too...and there's often a wee bit of ash sitting in front. 😊

    #1... I like your video
#2... I bought my stove back in 1996 and burn between 3 and 5 cord of wood a year depending on time constraints
#3 ... Campmor catalog or regular newspaper... right on the mark... I do use the waxed stuff in a pinch but I don`t like it either.
#4 ... I notice you are real gentle with your stove... little of ash on the bottom of the pan and pre-heating the stove pipe... I am not as gentle... I run mine like I stole it and it has yet to fail so my advice is: you have a great stove... don`t worry if you are a little rough on your stove... I would not recommend it but I did burn micro-lam beams in mine with no detriment.
#5 Build a wood shed... nothing like having dry seasoned wood during a 24 hour blizzard
Other than that... great video and good luck with your stove...
The only advice to viewers who are thinking of buying a Jotul 3... think long and hard about the exterior choices because your stove will be around for a LONG time... Mine is flat black cast iron... I wish I would have bought Blue Black enamel ... Oh well

Sigmund Seroczynski Thanks!! I like the input. Why would you go with the enamel if you had to do it again? I'm putting a new stove in my next house and I'm thinking of getting the Oslo. Why should I go with the enamel? Thanks.

If I can give you one piece of advice, leave an inch or two of Ash in the grate and it will protect the cast iron from the intense heat. Then you will never have to replace it. It will also allow your fire to burn longer. Stay warm 👍

Great video! I have a question. Which collar did you use for the rear of your stove. I have an F3CB ready to install but I don’t have the collar.

Nice stove, the only comment I have is i put enough wood in at the beginning to get the stove completely up to temp without opening the stove. then let it burn down to the coals before adding more. good luck

Thank you! I am new at this so I appreciate the advice. This will be the third year for me using this stove and I'm still learning new things about it.
      Best day!

My Jotul bought in 98 is this model. I had it installed to where I’m living now as close to wall as safety guidelines allowed. The pipe goes straight out the back and joins a metal chimney. I rarely use this stove not because I don’t want to but it burns so fast! I would have to add wood way too frequently. Yes I shut damper down, air flow opening too. But never see a noticeable difference in slowing flames down. Plus the grate to protect wood from rolling out always dislodges so easily. Am I the only one with these problems with this Jotul 3cb?

I have the jotul 8 ap .it was put in in 95 I can put 2 pieces of wood and it last at least 1hr 1/2 and stays above 300 f°
That's with the bypass damper closed

You shouldn't fill the stove with so much wood when lighting the fire. Just a small amount so it gets going and warms up properly. All the soot on the glass is a telltale of you not getting a hot enough fire. When doing everything right, the glass should be clean at all times.

sjokomelk You are right man! I learned this after a year of using it and getting to know the stove. I love the air clean feature. Thanks!

I was wondering, how many sq ft will your stove heat? from your personal experience?

    • @crazywackyadventure

Our house was 1100sq ft and no insulation We were comfortable all winter long in South Carolina. It was our main source of heat and we thought it was great. When we moved we put in another jotul stove in the house. They are just swell!

O that is great! I have 1200 sq ft. with no insulation! I Am trying to decide between the F3 and the F400! I didn't want to get to small and be going through wood but also didn't want to big and be roasted out of the house! Also thinking long term how would each of these hold up!

That is so wrong, just bougt a jotul stowe and in the manual is written both of the air controller should by fully open at the start of the fire and using a news paper is not a good idea either.
