    I've shot Canon DSLR cams for 15 years including the 1 Series. Last year I got the R6 Mark II and all my lenses are adapted lenses (Sigma Art and Canon 70-200 2.8 III). These adapted lenses focus way faster and WAY more accurately than they ever did natively on the 1 Series cams. I get nearly 100% keepers now shooting sports with the R6 II and EF 70-200 2.8 using eye AF, even for hockey where it nails the eye. It's insane. I see no reason to get RF lenses.

      would you consider upgrading to the rf 70-200 2.8 or ef is more than enough? just curious about this

      Same. I’m so excited that the price of ef lenses are dropping so rapidly. My dream lens is the 400mm f2.8 and I saw one for around $2500 recently. That was $12k when it first came out.

    A good shoot, but high heels in the woods and snow?
    I love your dual purpose living room / studio. I did that for years too, but almost 5 years ago I rebuilt and began using the 19 X 26' former bedroom in a 2nd master bedroom suite upstairs in my home that wasn't any longer in use. It's now my studio, since my kids are now all married and gone. Being retired (I'm 81 now) I don't work for hire any more, just experiment with light and shoot family and friends, still life, and sometimes short videos. It's a bit tight for a studio and I made it as multi-purpose as possible. There is also a large walk-in closet for storing unused gear, a full bathroom, and I have made use of the large hallway at the top of the stairs for a hair/make-up and coffee break area. I try to get my family and friends to pose for me, but when first setting up the lights I had talked my wife into posing for me. After 10 minutes she asked "how long is this going to take?" and I replied "maybe an hour". With that she got up and left, saying "I have better things to do", and she hasn't been up here since. I've been a Canon camera user for about 20 years now, the newest is a 90D. No mirrorless, yet. I do my best to watch every video that you put up on RUclips. It's always interesting to see how others do this like you.
    You've got the space, so how about a few still life type shoots? They are easy to set up in temporary studio space and there are lots of props all around the house to use. I assemble a table from a 34" square board on the top of a wooden Walmart stool for these. I bought some square tablecloths of different colors, and since I can no longer work low (metal knees), I put the stool on top of a set of bed risers to get everything at a comfortable work level. Dark shots with only lighting for the table surface and the props is what I like for most of these shoots (A little mystery in the dark surroundings). A 12" square soft box directly above the table and pointed straight down is my key light. Then I work in other lights around the table as I need them.
    Thanks for a very interesting video.
    Charley

    While the RF lenses tend to be faster, sharper, and less fringing, I'm actually planning on selling my RF 50mm f1.2 L in favor of the EF 50mm f1.2 L. I find the softness of the EF creates a more dreamy image. I also prefer the way it handles highlights, flare, and colors. The RF tends to be too sharp and too perfect. I love all of the photos I've taken on the EF, but I can't say the same about the RF.

    • @SliverCreations
      @SliverCreations 9 месяцев назад

      I have had both as well and even the sigma art 1.4.all on the R5. But I really love the RF. It still has the character but also the sharpness. I do however dail the sharpness down a bit in PS.

    • @corbinwesler3985
      @corbinwesler3985 9 месяцев назад

      @@SliverCreations It has character. It's a slightly different character than the EF. I think the softness just gives a natural creamy/dreamy look to it. Have you had any chance to try a pro mist filter on the RF to see if that helps soften it. I'm curious to see if that'll help give that soft/dreamy characteristic... especially with highlights and backlit situations.

    • @SliverCreations
      @SliverCreations 9 месяцев назад

      @corbinwesler3985 yeah that pro mist filter is something I would like to try out.

      @@SliverCreations I just picked up a NiSi Black Mist 1/4 filter to try on the RF 50/1.2. I’ll report back after I do some shots with it, and comparisons with the EF. Just from some initial tests at home with string lights behind a subject, it creates a super dreamy look and the image is still way sharper than the EF. Although, the glow can be a little overboard when there are a lot of lights around the subject.

    My father passed away in 2018 and in his estate we found his Minolta 7000 with a few lenses. It was precisely because I wanted to bring these lenses back into life that I started taking photos in 2019. I still use old Minoltas AFs, esp. the 50mm/f1.4, the 28-135mm/f4-4.5 and the 70-210/f4 (the "beer can" - in Gernamy we call it "stovepipe") very often today - and I love it ❤

    Irene I just found your videos a couple of hours ago. First I watched the video of you shooting with a Nikon camera, which is why I found your youtube site in the first place. I am a Nikon user. I just finished watching this video. Both videos are amazing. You're fortunate to have a sister who is a model. Not only is she extremely photogenic; she follows your instructions, instead of arguing with you like many siblings would. I am primarily a landscape photographer. However, I have recently begun photographing people more often. My portrait shots are nowhere near as good as yours. When it comes to portrait photography, I'm more like someone who shoots pictures of my family and friends. No real skills, just aim the camera and hope for the best. You've inspired me to learn how to truly photograph people, and not just snaps pictures of them. I've subscribed to your channel because I learned a long time ago, that the only way to learn how to do something well, is to learn from those who already know how to do that something well.

    The main reason EF glass works so well on RF bodies is that the EF and RF lensese probably use the same communications protocol. Unlike adapting for example, EF lenses to E-Mount, there has to be some sort of microprocessor thats translating the communications protocols between EF and E-Mount lenses which adds latencies and results in less performance.

    There is really very little difference between both lenses. The colors are the same, there is clearly a difference in sharpness and softness in blur, but it is not something that really compromises the final look of the image. However, the money savings are tremendous. I have the EF50mm 1.2 and the EF 85mm 1.2 II, along with an R6, and the results are fantastic. The new focusing system breathes new life into these old lenses. It seems to me that the best investment in RF lenses is Zoom lenses. (crisp from corner to corner and ultra fast)
