Abes the best. He always takes a step back and questions complexity. I'm running a very basic tank now and it works Great. Less to go wrong means less goes wrong
Hey man ive been following your videos and just subscribed, we have a very similar way of running tanks coincidently. Tip for you to get the best color out of your corals in a nano tanks: Replace the reef roids with fauna marin's "coral sprint" podwer. The feeding response is superior while not adding phos and nitrate. This allows you to feed your fish more so if your phos begins to drop due to the lack of reef roids then bring them up by feeding your fish more (or getting more fish). This will make your fish poop more thus feeding the coral. The phos from dosing and something like reed roids is used differently by the coral than the phos and nitrate that come from fish poop. Its very complicated but for now I can just say that corals have evolved to use the specific phos and nitrate from fish poop, and although they use other type of phos and nitrates, the main ones are from fish waste. So the trick to better colors in closed loop systems like a nano is combination of particulate food and the readily available phos and nitrate that come from fish waste. Hope this helps. 😊
Living in Australia is great. Many reefers get natural seawater delivered at home. I have a 1000 litre rain water tank and get it filled for AUS$130, home delivery. The tank loves it much more than home-made seawater.
Devin I pulled all my marine pure style media too, I had the same thought. Dont wasn't your time. It also spiked my phosphates which doesn't make sense, but it happened.
Great Job Devan getting these 2 together, doubt we'll see it again but great job. I love hearing other people's experience and opinion on reefing. Nutrients is one of my favorite topics. @@CoralEuphoria aw I'm sorry buddy I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. I love more than a few of your video's and your outlook on reef keeping is very unique. I hope you take this constructive criticism in stride and keep up the great work none of us are perfect.
Lights are frequencies, so a photon is not just a photon…. I agree. There are millions of different frequencies we can use as a light source. Spectrum = frequency/wave length
The other consideration is LED'S tend to have variations so when you have a bunch of the same diode some will be a bit higher and some a bit lower.. so it widens the spectrum a bit for each wavelength
@@ReefDudes this is a topic that will be a mystery for another 5-10 years until science catches up with frequencies and how they apply to the universe “Nikola Tesla stuff lol” but until then I just think of light waves as a energy source, the more energy you crank into your tank the faster things can go wrong, the faster metabolic rates changes everything….. so I always suggest less light is better, you can always turn it up later if your tanks chemistry and ecology lets you!!
Late comment. But I think the important different is the diffusion. With t5 the light is omnidirectional where led is directional and relies on reflectors. What I don’t get is why the led bars don’t have better diffusers. Like the ai blade had that nice Matt diffuser which will always spread the light better than if you can see the diodes
1:29:07 curious how’s your CO2 meter going? I got mine up a couple weeks after yours. It’s really insightful how much atmospheric CO2 influences your pH. I literally know within 5 minutes when people are in my house, because I can see it rise. I do not have well sealed windows and live in a older home. People really don’t realize how power CO2 is! “Why is my pH struggling today?” ::checks CO2 level in the house:: “Yep. Thank you daily CO2 reminder.”
Its funny how you can tell if people are home or company is over just off the co2 readings. CO2 can have a massive effect. Its winter for me so i dont leave the HRV on as much but if i see co2 too high ill kick it on for a while to level things out!
What T5 bulbs are you guys running with the LED’s? I’m still running ATI bulbs. My Radions seem to fry frags good! 😂. Do defusers help soften the frying?
My marine pure bio bricks ended up braking down and leaching zinc into my aquarium I had no idea untill I removed it and noticed a LARGE difference between my coral health before and after
Abe, how do you use coral pro salt from red sea if it has a super high dkh and you keep your tanks dkh at around 7-8? Wouldn’t a water change / alkalinity change shock the corals. I am guessing you just do really small changes?
@@CoralEuphoria hahah I meant to talk about this actually and it slipped by. I doubt you have more than a .5-1dkh alk bump from a water change, unless you do a huge percentage? TBH, it scares me a little, but if it's good enough for Abe....
@Frag Garage It may be terrible, but I don't even check the alk after a water change 🤣. I just stick to my about-every-two-weeks-alk check. I actually would be using the blue bucket but I use RSCP because I can't find the "blue bucket" in 200 gallon bags. So probably the biggest reason is because I'm cheap 😅
@@6jdhd after some pondering .. my theory is kalk helps bind po4. then its easier for your skimmer to remove. That being said now i have to go watch that stream :P

I do this and its changed the way I reef *forever* Also, there's a difference in how a coral uptakes trisodium phosphate vs organic phosphate like reef roids for example 😊
I’ve come to think of nutrients more in terms of availability. Sure natural reefs are close to zero, but there’s sharks eating this or that, every 2 seconds, releasing nutrients. So there are nutrients. They’re just taken up immediately by all the hungry mouths waiting for them. It’s like seeing a plant in the desert and assuming there’s no water. Or no food in a bachelors fridge and assuming he’s starving. It’s there. Just not long enough to see it.

Cyclopeez dried in the can was the best coral food when it was easily accessible. 43:00
So much insightful information wants to make me farm coral! Thank you guys!
Our pleasure!
Hi Guys, thank you for the info. I love to run my reef as simple I can. Good feeding, 12 T5, ESV Bionic 2 Parts and protein skimmer so far.
The correlation between metal halide lights and corals growing well is reefers who use metal halides know how to keep a reef in general.
Very good point!
Very good live. Very sincere and honest. Greetings from Spain.

interesting observation. I wouldn't think Kalk would affect the Skimmer.

To get back to this, tank overcome the dino's on 31-12-2022 and first new acropora added February 2023 and from there on everything is doing great!!!
