I put them in my bag for all the reasons you mentioned. Safety and they have saved my day on cold MT hunts in November. They are so nice to have. I have the western mountaineering pants. They are worth every dime and made in the USA.
I purchased the Sitka 3/4 puffy pants along time ago. They come in handy around camp in the winter and I find myself putting them on more often while glassing. Worth the investment especially when they were on sale.
I ordered a pair this spring, I got the cheapest ones from Camofire and I’m looking forward to getting them some use. Nice job explaining the differences.
