Do you have any thoughts on the curriculum "How to Teach your Child to Read in 100 easy Lessons book"? I'm currently using that with my child and it its explicit, systematic and teaches Phonics as well as phonemic awareness skills in the beginning lessons. There's also an 100% decodable text with a picture in each lesson after lesson 30 i think and as a teacher I see the brilliance in it. As a parent though, I'm having a hard time figuring out what to do about our accents (we live in the south)! Im realizing that how I say a lot of words is not how it should be read. For example the word ram, should be said with the /a/ sound but I say it with an a-eh sound so its confusing to my daughter and I'm not sure what to do because I'm also not consistent in how I say words so I can't just teach her to say the /a/ sound like /a-eh/. Idk if this makes any sense, but I'd love some advice if you have any?

I'm so glad you found a program that works for you! I think it's important to respect your accent and the way you pronounce words. It's part of your culture and who you are! Just because it's not the way it's "supposed" to be read doesn't make it wrong. I think you should teach your daughter the way you speak because speech comes first, print comes second. You can always point that out to her, too. For example, you could say, "This word is spelled with this letter, but we pronounce it a little differently." Good luck! She's lucky to have you!
