Thank you guys for this update. I look forward to more updates of every other mall, and more. Im here for it! I will also go out and visit this mall. My best friend that passed away used to work in retail back then, and had to work at MANY malls. Quakerbridge, Monmouth, Woodbridge, Menlo, Willowbrook, Livingston, Newport, and Short Hills to name a few. We used to go to them all. Thank you for this.
Just visited the mall on September 13th, 2021 ... walking through the complex reminded me of the days before the closing of Seaview Square Mall in the '90s. It was like walking along the boardwalk in winter. Many empty unnamed stores that will likely never reopen. Half the businesses in the food court were unoccupied. The multi-level garage was closed off to shopper parking. If this mall survives and has a comeback it will surprise me. 4:05 ... location of what was Johnny Rockets. Too bad other malls that are now gone don't have a video like this to remember them by. Thank you for this one, whatever its fate.
They have since demolished the parking garage and the Lord and Taylor has closed down, it is being replaced with a giant home furniture store. There is also a Macy’s across the street at this point, as well as a Chik-fil-A right around the corner (was the biggest draw to the mall, at the food court). So yeah. Not looking sunny. Most of the stores shown here in this video have since shut down.
I live in Virginia Beach , Va. and our Lynnhaven Mall has an FYE Music store that sells the same kind of stuff I noticed at the Suncoast store in this video. Lots of T-shirts, candy, DVDs, CD's, posters, vinyl records! I wonder if both stores are owned by the same company?
As of 2021, there only seem to be five standalone Suncoast stores left (plus one in Ohio that's co-branded with its corporate sibling FYE), Monmouth being one of them. It's anyone's guess how long they will hold out, so the sooner that trip can be made the better!
Braddock’s Mens Store used to be at this mall. Awesome custom suits and shoes! I went to Monmouth University but always would rather go to Freehold Mall. I think the mall still hangs on and does well because there is a LOT of money in this area and Freehold is a bit too far inland to knock it out…
this is the mall i go to all the time :) actually i prefer it like this, i don't like crowded malls and when i do my morning walk in the mall i like it quiet
Seeing some never-say-die malls around here show signs of weakness because of a struggling tourist industry. Maybe the mall depended on business from folks going to the beach. Also lol at having the gym right next to the food court.
That's a shame, I'm fortunate to live in NNJ where Willowbrook, Garden State Plaza, Menlo Park, Jersey Mills and even the megamall American Dream have all come through the other side of COVID strongly and are pretty resurgent. Rockaway has completely died but it's pretty far out of the way, maybe 65% vacancy.
Wow, I'm surprised to hear that about Rockaway. We haven't been there to film because quite frankly, it didn't seem interesting enough due to the thriving nature of it. If what you say is true, we need to get out there!
Same, but it's certainly not doing well. They have to do something to bring in more people, so hopefully they continue to go forward with the redevelopment that was announced a few years ago. There's construction of a hospital right next to the mall.
At least it has its 3 anchors still which is the most important part. They just need to work to get some new stores there to fill the vacancies. This mall will be fine.
@@R32R38 , I hear u, as that's a very quiet section by Boscovs! I usually park in front of Firebirds. But I parked in front of Boscovs last time. And, it feels so far away from the happening areas. The 2nd floor of Boscovs had tons of open space . I love Boscovs ! They keep the old Shore Mall , Egg Harbor Township, together, as most of the mall got torn down. Near Atlantic City

Comments like yours are why we do this! Thank you!

From what it looks, this mall has gotten worse from when I last saw it, at least we have suncoast. Great video Raw!
And, at least there's still a movie theater.

Had no idea Suncoast still existed. That was a blast from the past.
not anymore thats closed now
All I needed was to see that Suncoast. Guess it's time to make a trip to Monmouth now...

@@gordontaylor2815 agreed. I live in eastern PA so not terribly far away…
This seems like a triving mall. It looks awesome. Great video😁😁
Thriving I meant.
YES! High household earnings in this area. Many, many million dollar homes, near the beaches and a lot of New York City transplants that love to shop!
I remember when this place was packed. You couldn't find a spot.

A mere shell of better times past

I worked at Suncoast back in the 90s good times
I like to watch abandoned mall video's I was a mall rat in the 80's Monmouth mall was my home.
They need to put a lego store in the Monmouth mall

I think it was some time this year that Brookfield stopped their partnership with Kushner Cos. Kushner Cos. now has full ownership of Monmouth Mall.
They are turning it into apartments
When is the remodel?

Quite a few empty shops. I don't think I would quite call it dead yet.

@@rl8429 Is that what that's going to be? I saw that construction there last time I was there, I was wondering what it was.

It's odd, even though Boscov's is a successful company, in this mall the section around it is really dead
You can thank L&T for that.
Yep, the food court needs to fill a vacancy, as the pizza 🍕 stand is gone

its dead...they all are, some sort of relic of shoppings past
