He might not get a lot of blocks but when you account for how many steals, deflections he gets and low foul numbers he's comparable to Marc Gasol in that sense and staying low to the floor allows him to get better position for rebounds, great communicator too and saves his body long term.
Advanced stats are bogus. Is scoot henderson the worst player in the league because he had the worst plus minus? Is Jokic a better defender than Wemby, AD, or Jrue because of d win shares?
@@americanified101 i can tell that you did your research. Advanced stats are invaluable metrics when used in the proper context. Scoot is at the bottom of all qualifiers in BPM due to being a rookie with a high usage rate on a young rebuilding team. He can become a more effective player by becoming a more efficient scorer and a better team defender. Notice the emphasis on teamwork on defense. This is ultimately a team sport therefore players that perform great in a scheme and read the floor better than anybody else will perform better than players who only produce individual statistics or rely on athleticism. This highlights Jokic as a great defender because he's a great team defender. He hedges well on screens, is strong in the post with great hands, great motor, chases for loose possession, rebounding machine. That's what gives him a top five ranking in steals among centers. Steals being the most important defensive counting stat because it guarantees an offensive possession. This is consequently what gives him the top rank in BPM because we know what he does when given an offensive possession. As for Scoot, it's too soon to tell what he will accomplish.
@@phillipg1331 yea most of it is based off of team success Also another stat i wanna talk about is points allowed/opponent points If you stand around doing nothing but the shooter misses that SHOULD be bad defense, but according to PAPG, thats good d because they didnt score But if you give your all defensively; navigating through screens, communicating, reading plays, and simply contesting, it would be considered bad defende just because they scored
@@americanified101 this is an interesting topic, you are quite knowledgeable. This is why I stated that context matters. Advanced metrics are a great tool when added with context. A good way to view this is subjective versus objective. You see a player that's standing around on defense but he might be tasked with something specific within the scheme and the player that's hustling over the screen might have been out of position. It's all about context. That context can be anything from team schemes, which helps Jokic flourish, or something as simple as effort that you suggest. I do enjoy our conversation about this topic.
Look at jokkkic Pts allowed, doesnt switch ,doesn't get his hand up during the playoffs, exposed by NAZ Reid and "KAT" look at how Kat performed against a jokic anchored defense vs the mavs defense 💀
Season before, exact same wolves team got gentlemen swept lmao. Murray and MPJ, shit, and KCP all forgot how to shoot - they got tired man. That wolves team is nothing to Jokic and Nugs. Nugs looked equally bad against Lakers.

Fun fact: Jokic has led all NBA centers in steals per game the last 4 seasons.
bu..but... I thought he doesn't play defense???
When your that skilled and that tall it makes it look so easy
I love jokic steals he looks slow running up the court but you ain’t stopping him, he’s a freight train 😂

cool :) now do the longer version before people start to make fun of 2 min defensive higlights of the season :)
Timing beats speed.
Don't tell anybody that dislikes him that he leads the league in defensive win shares.😂
