Unless one is familiar with training for agility, the viewer does not know that the handler had NEVER seen this course, was given 5-8 minutes to familiarize him/herself with it and figure out how to send the dog to the correct obstacle, place him/herself correctly and not miscue the dog. The dog has never seen this course, so, in spite of the DQs (technical faults mainly missing contacts), I think there were only 2 "off courses" = handler error. It's tougher than it looks and takes a year or two before a young dog can even compete at the Novice level. GREAT SPORT and love how it makes my dogs think.
28:18 She stood in front of the obstacle, blocking the path for the dog. That's quite a big error. Nonetheless it's very interesting to watch - for example the many disqualifications because of dogs jumping on the big bridge instead of going over the white fence too was often the result of the owner not giving signals but just turning away. On the other hand, you've got dogs who just hesitate due to their personality/inexperience, which of course costs a lot of time - but still great job and congratulations to the participants. Usually I just watch show jumping for horses, but agility for dogs looks like fun! :)
I would love to try to do this with my dog... obviously not at this level but it looks challenging for me and my pup physically and mentally and a like lot of fun. But how do I get started? Do you get lessons or something?
+Elizabeth Hudson you can buy some "Agility things" from amazon, we used them too. How old is your dog? You can start to train with your dog when he is 1 1/2 Years old. But it would be better if you train with a profissional Trainer.. :) (Sry for my bad english)
I have trainings with my dog Every saterday morning. Don't start to soon, start with jumping at 1 year old because it is bad for its bones when it's younger than 1 year old. I also bought some agility obstacles to train at home 3 times a week. Make sure your dog loves it at much as you do so you both have a lot fun!
You ever think about how evolution works, and how all animals find a niche... And humans have become so important that there are hundreds of animals whose niche is simply doing stuff humans need or like to have done? And it's now to the point where we humans have turned one species of mammals into this ridiculously versatile species with varying sizes and temperaments to do everything from catching pests to detecting blood glucose levels via sense of smell. And while we think of it as breeding, it's really still natural selection, except that instead of the fastest or strongest getting to reproduce, we make it so the cleverest or the most friendly get to reproduce. It's really crazy Full disclosure I'm drunk
This isn't "playtime" in front of thousands of people. Dogs aren't dumb. They know they're being showed off and the least the owner could do is give them a small treat for winning them money..
+Mel Dolan these competitions don't make anybody money, all it does it gives the dogs titles and shows that the trainer is capable of training. They usually just get sponsored and free food but no they don't win a lot of money
You probably have managed to find out what this means by now but AW is an Agility Warrant, it is in Bronze, Silver and Gold, Platinum and Diamond. They are basically levels so a dog that has AW(g after its name means it has a gold agility warrant. I hope this helps!
The height categories seem all out of whack. There were dogs in the medium category that looked smaller than some in the small category. Plus dogs like Pudsey have to compete against border collies that look about twice her size.
So guys, I really want an Aussie, one of my favorite breeds of dogs ever! My parents want to get me one but here are their main concerns: My mom is worried about no one being home for a few hours each day, but I was thinking I could do this thing that our friends do which is they have a line between 2 trees and they tie the dog lead to the line so the dog can run around outside. Is that a good idea or do you have any suggestions? So my dad is concerned about the money, I earn an allowance every week and I have saved up a lot of money preemptively, preparing for this. I have also calculated how much it would be per year. I know I shouldn't get my hopes up to much, but I want this so bad! And I would never get bored of him/her. And I may seem young and irresponsible, but I have done research and written essays and written up facts about Aussies. Any suggestions on how to get them fully on board?
Kittykitkat dogs can't really be outside on a lead for a long time I suggest doggy daycare because they will have more fun and also get social interaction with other dogs. Sorry I just don't think dogs do well on leads for long periods of time many things that could go wrong. If I were u I would go with doggy day care it's a better option especially for such an energetic breed. Hope this helped :)
Kinda confused about the slalom thingy near the end of the course. Why don't they get penalized for not looping around the first one? You basically skip it if you don't go around the outside.
+purplepotato It doesn't look like it goes in with the pole on its right to me, and the commentator describes it as a soft sided entry. The jump slightly obscures things though, I had to watch a few times!
So going through the wrong way in the tunnel then fixing the problem is a immediate elimination and not a fault? How can not toughing the white be a fault? I guess i just will never understand this.
Smurfadelis As I understand it, an elimination is basically when the dog takes the wrong path, like going the wrong way into a tunnel, or taking something backwards such as the weave poles or a jump. That means it can't be fixed. However, the person wants the dog to run the rest of the course the right way after that as training and because dogs love doing this so that is the dog's reward, along with the human's affection and praise. It is always the handler's mistake, not the dog's. I see faults as errors while on the correct path, such as a refusal, not completing the weave poles, or knocking something down. I think refusing three times in a round is an elimination but I'm no expert. :) Fixing some errors can forestall an elimination, which is why they keep trying to get the weave poles right. If the dog leaves the weave poles with an unfixed error and then takes the next obstacle, that is an elimination because of deviation from the correct path by entering or leaving the weave poles at the wrong spot and going on. A dog can veer toward the wrong obstacle and away again and just lose time, but if it touches the wrong one, that's an elimination. Come to think of it, yeah, it is kind of complicated. :) I learned all I know from these videos and I'm sure you'll catch on faster than I did. At least the obstacles seem to be more standardized now and at Cruft's they rarely throw in a wishing well or a table, although I gather they could. The reason they want the dog to touch the white is for the dog's safety. They don't want dogs leaping from that height and getting hurt.
+Laura Roberts tunnel you hold it straight and call the dog through and reward, weaves you put the poles in a V shape and call the dog through and very gradually straighten the poles. Though nothing can beat going to actual agility classes :P
yu know, the judge didn't looked so disappointed when he eliminated Mark. He had a smile in his face! (sorry for being so picky here, but it's the truth.)
veo extremadamente ansiosos a estos animales, puede ser que se les de elevadas dosis de cafeína o algún otro fármaco, igual me parece un deporte muy estúpido y denigrante hacia una especie animal.
+JoEnUtZ23 depends what sport you mean, in agility border collies are unbeaten (except for an occasional kelpie). In protection training no doubt dobes would beat BCs. If you mean as a pet than that's totally subjective :)
Unless one is familiar with training for agility, the viewer does not know that the handler had NEVER seen this course, was given 5-8 minutes to familiarize him/herself with it and figure out how to send the dog to the correct obstacle, place him/herself correctly and not miscue the dog. The fact that they can go through those poles so quick is incredible. The ability to turn that quick?!
It’s so cute to see how happy and excited the dogs are!
They are so enthusiastic!

Watching dog agility is really relaxing to me, just love to see how those dogs are enjoying and great bond with their owners. Truly beautiful

I am a new agility trainer with a 6 week old austrailian Shepherd any tips or suggestions on how to train my new dog?
What the hell is that writing in the green boxes? "Daimonic expelliarmus"?
+Riley B weird names for the dogs hahaha
EatSleepFootball smh. They don't use those full names obviously. I might as well has 9 names and just use 1 of them...
Riley B ? English please.
Such close times!! Amazing dogs!!
I love agility. There are masters. I wait to new championship.
That little toy poodle was so regal looking as he was waiting to start! :)
GOOD JOB FOR ALL THE DOGS!!
I hate it when they dont reward the dog after for doing all that and they just walk off.
+Mel Dolan This is playtime for these dogs. You don't need to reward a dog for playing and having great fun.
Well even if they think it's playtime. It's nice to know that they do all this and at least get a tiny treat for even bothering to do it.
This isn't "playtime" in front of thousands of people. Dogs aren't dumb. They know they're being showed off and the least the owner could do is give them a small treat for winning them money..
+Mel Dolan probably got a great treat off camera.
+Mel Dolan these competitions don't make anybody money, all it does it gives the dogs titles and shows that the trainer is capable of training. They usually just get sponsored and free food but no they don't win a lot of money

Shirley Keams ,haha, hope your best
What is AW(G) after a dog's name? I have tried looking it up with no luck.

Plus dogs like Pudsey have to compete against border collies that look about twice her size.
pandacupcake12 Yeah I agree!
that is art and it is difficult for the trainer and the dog
Why do most of the dogs bark when they are doing the competition?
They bark when they're excited and they bark when you aren't giving commands fast enough

Génial
Those Borders are something else

+purplepotato The dog has to enter it with the first pole on their left side, if they'd come from the other side you'd see them loop around. :)
End of Your Tether Dog Training But the very first dog (2:39) goes in with the first pole on the right, but everything was fine.

Amo los perros ♥️
The is do very talented
The dogs which had a fast running owner performed much better than the ones who didn't hurry at all.
+megaapfel And one day they'll make a crufts for humans where the dogs chase the humans through the obstacles!
22:49 in he vid the timer froze at 26 second that dog didn't get the time he got
Wow those dogs r perfection
The dogs know what’s going on. They are so ready!

bs, they should just keep the clock running until they do the right obstacle
that is dope!!!!!!!!
best of the best in the whoel world
I very liked nastha wise and charlotte harding thats event ! Amazing performs are dogs.
I do dog agility but i don't compete 💘 i'm teaching my dog the tunnels and bending poles.... Any ways how to teach please do

thank you! i only just saw this comment hahaha i will definetly try those methods
yu know, the judge didn't looked so disappointed when he eliminated Mark. He had a smile in his face! (sorry for being so picky here, but it's the truth.)
why there are no terrier or pitbulls, i think they will be pretty good at this
Pits would just stop to murder children and thus put up slower times
Wat means "ag ch" by the Dog name
That stands for Agility Champion :) It means that the dog has won an agility certificate at a championship show!
@@crufts thx
Why do I see a lot of border collies in these videos, are they really agile and intillegent?
Yes.
My rabbit Coco does Agility

That British guy with the two dogs hit them both. Wtf
Doberman superior to all!
JoEnUtZ23 that one I think wasn't a doberman.
JoEnUtZ23 it was a Kelpie, I think.
I know it wasn't a dobie. I just mean overall. Dobie is hard to beat
well ,yeah...

border collie forever I LOVE THEM THERE THE BEST not a collie there imposters
I think everyone should be allowed to run the course twice and whoever has the highest score, wins. Too much all or nothing.
+WachdByBigBrother Do track runners get to go twice
Its so much more difficult than they make it look. lol
