😮 first time ever watching someone 'shoe shining' if that's even the correct terms and i was kind of nervous when he started scraping the leather as i thought that shining the shoe only needs a wash and applying some chemical to make it look shiny. Turns out there's more to this work than just the literal meaning of its name. Thank you I had lots of fun watching 😊
Depends on how much you’re taking off. I think he was only scraping the bare minimum surface that held the dirt and protective covering (wax, fat, ect.) which he added back later to refinish the shoe after cleaning. Leather is super good at taking a beating even if he did go too rough and it doesn’t just start like tearing apart or flaying unless you severely puncture tf out of it or tub tf outa one spot a lot. He was also applying a layer of wax or oil every time he scraped which probably worked similar to shaving cream when you shave.

Good leather is a darn tough material. That scraping doesn't hurt it since he's just lightly passing over it. He's scraping off old wax along with the dirt. You wax em up when you're done, and the leather is good as new, provided you know what you're doing.
