    Hate to bust your bubble, but my bird, Dixie, is around 40!!! He was found in a tree by my mother around 1978. She heard him singing the song “Dixie” while sitting up in a tree. My Mom put her finger out and Dixie flew down and landed on it. We’ve had him ever since. He now lives in my home in Saint Augustine, Florida. When he was found, he was fully grown. So we’ve really got no idea how much older he may be, but I was around 16 then, and now I’m 56. So Dixie has all your birds beat. He’s still very healthy.

      uhチュンチュンマル Dixie finally passed away on May 10, 2019, at the rip old age of 40. I have no tips. He wasn’t very friendly to males, so he would bite my fingers when I went to feed him. He started going downhill about 3 months before he passed away. First he started loosing his balance and would fall off his perch. So I lowered his perch to the bottom of the cage. About 4 days before he died he must’ve had a stroke because he couldn’t even stand anymore. He’d just flop around on the bottom of his cage. I could hold him so he could eat and drink. I tried to have him put down, but I couldn’t find a veterinarian that would put birds to sleep. They all told me to just kill him myself. I couldn’t bring myself to do that. So I was relieved when I found that he had died in the middle of the night.

    I've got a 26+ year old pied cockatiel that I've had since I was just a little kid, and he's still going strong. The only signs of his age seem to be his occasional tripping over himself and a bald spot behind his crest. He still sings a lot, tweets very loudly when he hears me come in, and he even tries to do naughty things to my hand...

  • @mudman6156
    @mudman6156 5 лет назад +6

    My Cockatiel lived to the rip old age of 40. Yes, that’s four zero, or forty. He far exceeded the record book. My Mom found him in a tree singing the tune “Dixie”, thus he was then named Dixie. That was back in 1978. I was still in high school. I never expected that he would be around after I retired from the Navy and still stick around well into my retirement. I inherited him, as he outlived my Mom. Sadly, Dixie finally passed away on May 10, 2019. Obviously he died from OLD AGE. I think he was giving me a birthday present of some sort. So I expect that your tweedy bird may well have a LONG, LONG LIFE ahead of him. Dixie wasn’t very friendly. He would hiss at any fingers that got anywhere near his cage. But he was an excellent watch bird. If anyone he didn’t recognize went into my backyard, he would start screaming up a major racket. Rest In Peace poor little Dixie. I for one, am GLAD that you’re no longer stuck living in a cage.

    I hardly know how old my cockatiel is because my dad was given her about a year before I was born and I'm 20 now. He told me she was fully grown and trained when she joined the family. For some odd reason she never had a name so I recently named her Nym (after her species) when I took her under my care. So she is at least 20, probably older, but still spry as ever.

    He's adorable. It's amazing he is that old. I too adopted my mom's beloved cockatiel, Sweety, when she passed. My brother gave her the bird when the other one died at the age of 15. Sweety was a young bird when purchased. I don't know his exact age but I was pregnant with my daughter at the time. She is now 19. So he should be about 20 to 21 years now.

We do not let them have chicks / nesting /having a nesting box anymore, as to not wear them in their age. They are allowed to fly freely and shit everywhere, hence their long life. They eat a bit of ham now and then, a litttle bit of bread, plus their special bird-food for them, and the best water in the world, from the lake Vättern :)
    Mine likes to sit on the head. He can also sit on the hand, sometimes. He was more hand-tame, before he got hes wife many years ago. Then one could prune him on hes head. Now hes wife do that, so humans can not touch hes head anymore.

So have no idea how long he lived at previus owner. Bird died in 2017 I think it was like 5 days before xmas. I cryed like a baby, It felt like I lost my brother he was with me forever. He was blind for last 3 years of his life and had enlarged kidneys. It was hard watching him strugle last 2 days when he kept falling of to the floor of the cage. I know he was in bad pain but he didnt want to show it. I think he died peacfully I ve put him down on the botom of bird cage on some soft toilet paper and had to go to work. I knew it was over me and my brother buried him that day. I hope there is heaven so I can met my brother again.

      Sharath Yadav Dixie FINALLY passed away on May 10, 2019, at the rip old age of 40. He may have even been 41, but if he was, it certainly wouldn’t have been by much. He actually (FINALLY) died on my birthday. May have been a birthday present to me(?). I inherited him from my Mom, who found him as a full grown bird singing in a tree back in 1978-79. I have absolutely no idea how he managed to live for so long. He didn’t eat anything special. He was given mullet sprigs and 3-D Premium Cockatiel seed mixture. But over the years he’s had other brands as well. My mom once tried to put a female in his cage with him, but he went and attacked that poor bird, so she quickly removed it. He was rather mean in is old age.
