  • Review of my new Briggs and Riley Baseline carry on after using Monos hard shell suitcase for my Japan trip. Practicality over style pretty sums up the Briggs and Riley softshell luggage vs all the hardshell luggages out there.

I have this same bag and I really love it. It may not be trendy like a hard side but it's been all over and I can fit a weeks worth in it if clothes. I travel with this and the Briggs & Riley delve backpack or their executive duffle bag.I like how it's small enough to where it never gets flagged to check bc it's smaller than average. I have had to gate side check it (valet) on the crj erj planes but you pick it up after you get off the plane on the ramp. I love how hard side luggage looks but if you need to squish it into the bin above you have that ability with soft side luggage ✈️

Thank you for this video! There's a lot of videos for the Baseline carry-ons, but not much for this Compact model. So thank you, much appreciated! I was drawn to it too because of its dimensions (19"). Looking forward to the post-use videos! :) All the best

I have the two wheel 21 inch carry on. I love it. The compression is nice for carrying a hoodie or jacket. If you take the hoodie out, you can make the bag smaller. Or you can expand the bag to put it in. The build quality is very high. I also bought the large back pack. It too is very high quality and can accommodate a laptop, change of cloths, day planner, toiletries and the like. I travel the lower 48 for as much as 12 weeks at a time and use no more than these two bags. I never have to check bags. It's nice.

How validating!!! I invested in the 2 wheel 21" carry-on about an hour ago. I heard about this brand, 2 days ago, by my brother. I hope it arrives before I return to the Middle East.

I’ve been using Briggs and Riley for about 25 years. They are pricey but you can’t beat the quality.

If I were packing for Japan, I'd use the lightest carry-on possible (July compact carry-on) due to the weight restrictions on Japanese and other Asian airlines. The July compact hard sided weighs less than 4 pounds with restrictions of 15 pounds total in carry-on. The Briggs & Riley 19 inch compact carry on spinner weighs 9 pounds already allowing only 6 additional pounds of stuff to pack inside. But Briggs & Riley does make the best soft sided luggage in the world for any other use case and if weight is not an issue. Flight attendants will compliment you on your choice of the Briggs & Riley compact. They recognize quality luggage. I just wish they made the compact in colors other than black.

Great review. Would you be able do a video on what you can pack and how it’s holding up?

Great review! I bought the 21” Baseline but when it arrived yesterday, it was noticeably wider than standard. I thought the 15” width wouldn’t be obvious - it definitely is and I would probably have the gate check. Was debating if I should get the 19” or try a different brand. This review tipped me towards buying the 19”. Thank you!!
