Oh my gosh I'm so in love with this! Being on Disability I'll never be able to afford it (currently trying to get an MM6) but man o man it sure would take my songwriting to the next best level...and the one after that...and the one after that...great job as usual Yamaha!
Genos is aimed at one man band keyboardists rather than music producers. So technically it's an arranger rather than a workstation. If your a producer then you either choose Montage or just go for a midi controller, a DAW and VST plugins which is how the majority of music on TV broadcasts is done nowadays.
I've looked in most well know music stores in Nova Scotia and I actually don't think there is one in Nova Scotia. In two of them they had never heard of the Genos. What do you think of that Yamaha?
The Genos is a very expensive instrument so it's not brought in as regular stock to most of our stores. It wouldn't be financially feasible for us to bring in a $6000 instrument to each of our 80+ stores, so the Genos is only brought into stock in particular markets. The Genos would be a special order item everywhere else.
so now Yamaha decided to keep the notes on after release while pressing the pedal which does not happen in the previous generation which is sucks really. I have psr s970 and I wish they can fix this with OS update.
Most pedals have a polarity switch so you can change that. Also some keyboards like the M-Audio set the polarity at boot up so the pedal is on release when powering up the keyboard so if you want the pedal down to be release, you would put your foot down on the pedal while powering on the keyboard. hope this helps
If you don't have any workstation before, then Genos is good. But not good enough for those who already owned Tyros series to change to this. Genos mainly brings us: phantom power, knobs and larger sliders, touchscreens and better looking. Upgrades in sounds and styles are not revolutionary.
Native Instruments midi controllers have better DAW integration and better integration with with Native Instruments VSTs. Genos is an arranger not a workstation and arranger keyboards are a niche market for one man band situations and the sounds in an arranger are optimized for playing live rather than for recording of which this is not intended for.
For $6K I need those organ patches to sound EXACTLY like a Hammond B3 not an digital clonewheel. As a matter of fact most clonewheels sound better than the organs on this. It's nice but I'm not sold for that price. Good playing though.
You can also find more high-quality styles for Genos here. R&B Soul Jazz, Armenian, Greek, Caucasian and Eastern music. ruclips.net/p/PLfzyFhKJRT8HmNJZgh204s0mkg-kbplEq
The multipads he named it the new encouragement button. He just loaded applause samples in it. Thats pretty funny as well. After playing a piece then call your applause sample, there you got encouragement digitally
Very interesting, but who on earth is that person who hopped in and sat down half way, and started playing? Maybe next time he can wait for a couple of minutes until you have finished.
Yes, that would have been nice and considerate, but since NAMM is a tradeshow, the products on display in the booths are there to be played. People are filming everything all the time, it's pretty common to have others jump in the frame.
Instrumentalists Jade hey if you know what you are doing you can make any synth or arranger sound good doint have have to be a $5000 board(: I have a roland G1000 and the EA7 and the korg pa900 all cheap boards.
5k is not a lot of money....you probably have a car dont you? How did yoi pay for one? Sweetwater has financing options for many instruments so you can pay this in 24 months

If you re looking for more realistic sounds with a vast enginee behind them, just get a kurzweil K-2xxx and learn to program (takes years, unfortunately)
Suspiciously all videos are using the same styles combinations picked probably by yamaha..Last year I bought Montage and it was absolutely rubbish copied sounds from motif XF ,I guess this won't be better
Motif XS is still the best music production synth/workstation Yamaha ever made. Genos is an arranger and it's only for one man bands and not music production ( same thing applies to all arranger keyboards ). Montage is also better for music production compared to Genos. Or better still Halion 7!
2 BIG FLAWS the GENOS and TYROS' do not have are: 1. the RESET BUTTON to reset to BEAT 1 when you don't have PRO SINGERS who sang out of beat. For a nearly 6K board, this is unacceptable. 2. the Other flaw, is to be able to adjust velocity individual drum sounds in REAL TIME NOT unless you stop your playing and make adjustments unlike the KETRON KEYBOARDS do. PLEASE YAMAHA, fix or add these features.
Genos is a very nice and good keyboard !! But sorry, that's not a revolution at all compare to the Tyros 5. Genos does not bring anything new except better sounds, not all of them, just listen to the distorsion guitar which are the same as the T5. The other new thing is the useless arpeggiator and the good drum mapping from the PSR S series !!
Apart from the Genos's great sounds and large touchscreen display,it's not all that dissimilar from that of the PSR-S series...I mean...the Genos's midi sequencer is the same goddamn-piece-of-shit performance recorder,as the S670...WTF!?Yeah...you get 16 tracks, but no assignable and multiple insert effects for the tracks and no pattern sequencing with a copy & paste function and Yamaha has the nerve to call the Genos a workstation,so they can charge $5,500...what a load of horrendous bullshit!!
@@gpr4eva I agree that it's very misleading for Yamaha to market Tyros and Genos as workstations because people could end up buying this all for the wrong reasons. I used to think you can use an arranger as a sound module but it's way too expensive to buy something like this just to use as a sound module. Montage is designed for music production whereas the sounds in an arranger keyboard are not optimized for sound recording. I'm glad other people corrected me for saying "arrangers are not just for one man bands you can use them for midi sequencing". That has saved me throwing like £2000 down the drain on a Tyros 4 or Tyros 5 but there was no way I was going to spend £4000 on a Genos! Or better still, a midi controller with a DAW and VST instruments!
Fantastic keyboard. Just got mine last week and used in my classic rock band. They were blown away.
Very nice short demo, and I bought Genos a few weeks ago - it sounds great and is quite versatile as the man says.
First time I saw a person is doing a good review on Genos. V good job.

Hahahahahaha!!!!!!!
is the new Tyros?
When you would see Tyros as new PSR 9000....
how man regular people you out there you know that has the opportunity to do movie sound scores
1.8 gig should be 100 gigs and 77key has to stop. I would only want 88KEY
I agree with the 100 gig part. I have 88 key synth, don't really need the extra 12.
Sounds sweet! Seriously expensive though.
Get a job.
How much? I guess if I have to ask, I can't afford it... :-)
about $6000 US
im gonna pursue for that keyboard just because of that incouragement button

No smooth transitions like on the Kronos
