Thanks for the wonderful video Mike! The Class 37 is one of my all-time favourite loco types; they've got a truly unmistakable sound. I'll be down that way (as per usual) next week, staying at Dunster Beach, and I'll try to do the railway this year, as I haven't done it the last couple of times I've been down... :)
Pity they didn't open the throttle a bit more it would have growled a better. I think I have been watching to many of your videos as I have gotten to know the WSR very well and where we were along the track. Thanks for posting. Donald.
As soon as I saw Minehead I clicked on your video. We had a holiday there in 1956 when I was 6 and I can clearly remember staying there. We stayed in a caravan park not far from the sea. There was a railway line in between the caravan park and the sea, and I can clearly remember the steam engines going up and down the line. We lived in Coleford, Gloucestershire at the time. I bet Minehead has changed a bit since then.
I expect if you look at some of my older videos you will see the caravan park you stayed in. Most sites are still there although some have been sold for building houses or upgraded to park homes.
I’ll have a look. It was a long time ago but I’ve got a good memory. I just had a look on Google satellite view and I think I can see where we stayed. Of course steam was king back then. It’s good that in UK there has been a revival in steam preservation, last time we visited was1986.
Went on WSSR in June ,fantastic day out, well run Steam Railway, all credit to the staff and volunteers. Our train was pulled by Bradley Manor, well worth a visit and a journey.
After about 5 minutes you mention imagining yourself at Minehead Station about 50 years ago, just at that point I was I drifting back to childhood trips by train to Minehead to see my Aunt, Uncle and cousins. As was always the case the favourite seats in the DMU was behind the driver where you could see ahead and watch the rabbits and pheasants scurrying out of the way. Eventually the first glimpse of North Hill would bring out the excitement of nearly being there, though there would still be a few more miles and the long final straight seemed many times the actual distance. Great to find the film of Minehead and I'll come back to have another look through your collection.
@@valvlog4665 The national network said it wasn't profitable to operate so closed it! I was there again yesterday and it was difficult to find a seat, even on the DMU! There are efforts being made to reconnect it, but so far only an agreement to connect to the inland terminus of the WSR on certain Saturdays.
The promised Bishops Lydeard/Taunton shuttle has been confirmed - the first train runs on 27th July. It will be a Saturday only service initially and will be monitored closely with respect to further development. While clearly designed to encourage people to use the WSR, it is the first scheduled weekly rail service to operate here for nearly 50 years and is a new option for us in West Somerset to link with the national rail network. Which I will use. I hope many other do too. Because basically its use it or lose it.
Class 37s are still active on Britain's railways for freight and rarely passenger services in train simulator you can drive lots of heritage units on the wsr
I am from Madras, India. It was the British Empire which brought railway to India. Today it has grown 10,000 times. Please come here and shoot a video on Indian railways.
Gosh what a great compliment! Thank you. I know you have a great railway system over there. I would love to! When I win the lottery I will be back in touch!
Went to the WSR diesel gala in June. D6948 is fantastic ! All credit to the owners for restoring and maintaining this loco in such excellent condition 👍 Lovely journey from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead right behind her, took some superb growling videos ! Also praise for the WSR for their locos and nostalgic stations. Would like to see D6948 at my local heritage railway (Swanage) at next years gala !
ADMIRALSCORNER Thanks. I plan to come to next years WSR gala. Although the 37’s are my favourite locos ( always will be ! ) I was very impressed by WSR’s 33’s and Hymeks, and pleasantly surprised by 14 D9526’s power ! Any idea when D1010 Western Campaigner is due back in service? I’ve not travelled behind her yet.
MICHAEL, I JUST FOUND A YOU TUBE FILM DEPICTING D6948 HAULING THE FIRST EVER DEISEL HAULED TRAIN IN THE PRESERVATION ERA FROM BROADWAY ON THE PRESERVED ROUTE TO CHELTENHAM RCECOURSE ON 21 MARCH 2018, PART OF OLD CHELTENHAM TO HONEYBOURNE AND STRATFORD ON AVON RAIL ROUTE.
Dont know what looks best the 37 or drivers wife lol...37 edges it...they dont argue...lol nice vid m8 when we were kids used to get rides off drivers on them and shunters nr home...mum would have gone nuts if she had found out.
D6948 (37248) is owned by four individuals who are both Growler Group members and active working members of the Gloucester Warwickshire Railway diesel department and is a permanent resident on the GWR. 37248 came to Toddington in 2010 and has had an extensive refurbishment including the provision of steam heating and a return to BR green.
Shame about Bradley Manor on the 7th, I was on the S&D memories special as I arrived at Bishops Lydeard the manor was getting ready to depart with in 5 minutes 53808 had to rescue it. Looks like the loco primed then blew the right hand cylinder. Could’ve been a lot worse than what it was. Great video mate cheers Ross.
Setting the scene and you can see the steam of the train approaching in the distance. The appearance of the crossing will change over the winter when ii is upgraded so it will be good to be able to look back on how it was!
Most enjoyable day out for you, hope you had fun lovely to see so much modelling inspiration, thanks.
It was a fine enjoyable day in many respects!
Really enjoyed the trip and your video. Thank you :))

That's all good news! It is a bit far for you to travel the area once again personally!
That black open wagon you saw at minehead could be a 20 4w steel open ballast starfish wagon

So Minehead is no longer serviced by regular train service? Seems odd.

Happy memories! The driver is a fortunate man!
That 37's been very useful to them, they could do with one of their own. But they do have two Cromptons, and two Hymeks now.
And there are more! Not a bad selection for a steam railway!

It's going back to Toddington.

It was disappointing at the time but full marks to the mechanics to get it back in operation the very next day!
ADMIRALSCORNER aye definitely.
Where can I find out the meaning of all the road markings as in the diamonds before the railroad tracks?
Well it would be safe logic to assume no parking/crossing in that zone when the lights are flashing, just look it up on wiki.
If you can get hold of a UK highway code booklet it will most probably say "no stopping in that area."
The box is for the rail to be clear at all times. HC says do not enter the box unless your way is clear.
rude motorist at 0.34. what's the speed limit on that road?
I believe it is 40 mph.
I presume he thought you were a vigilante speed checker!

When she puts the power on hard she can snarl a bit!
This would benefit from cuts eg the first 1:30 could usefully be clipped out - it just shows cars going over the level crossing.
