Day number = Pikmin Limit Challenge:
The day number is equal to the maximum number of Pikmin on the field at once. For example you can only use 2 Pikmin at once on day 2 or 13 Pikmin on day 13. Day 1 is the only day the rule does not apply.

This was actually really cool. I didn’t realize bomb rocks were able to skip so much of what rock Pikmin are needed for.
Believe it or not, I had legitimately done this exact same challenge a few months ago myself. I'm glad you covered it yourself as I never made any content about it, it was just for my own fun, but I found it shocking how close the timeframe was of us both completing this.

i tried this run after the first part, and i learned a bunch of useful things to optimize play, like how bombs can be used to instantly dig up fruit. very useful for grapefruit in tundra, or banana in tropical wilds

Self imposing challenges like this really do teach you how to best work with what you got.
I remember I tried this run as well with the additional twist that the Pikmin type I must use each day is random, and it taught me that bomb rocks can be used in place of Rock Pikmin for all of what would otherwise be their mandatory use cases. I rolled Yellow Pikmin on my first day in the Twilight River, finishing the bridge and defeating the Arachnode on the first day because of this trick.

I tried a monochrome challenge myself, except once I got a new pikmin onion I had to put all the other colors away and only use the most recent color. The only required glitch is knowing how to do yellow onion skip (iirc) and the only unbeatable part is breaking the mireclops crystal, which you need to bring out some rocks for.

There is a challenge I though of a while back, I would call it a pikmin nuzlock. You can only sprout 100 of each pikmin and once they die you can't sprout another. It get complicated because you have to keep track of how many you sprouted vs how many have died until you reach your max number (100 - the number of dead pikmin = when you stop sprouting ) so if in the process of reaching 100 reds, you lose 15. Then stop sprouting at 85. Then you have to make those 85 last to the end of the game. And of course, no resets.
I did this with pikmin 2 and I thought it worked well and I liked it, but there is a lot of upkeep, especially with whites and purples, because losing a red pikmin to make a purple won't count towards you final 100, so just more upkeep. I wish there was just a mod that made it once you find each onion or bud, then it would be filled get 100 of the respective color or the ship will have 100 waiting for you when you leave the cave for the whites and purples.

So you can't have more than 10 of the same colored pikmin out at any given time. I've never tried it myself, but it sounds interesting to me.

Hey Love the challenge it inspired me to do my own try of the challenge I saw you did it on normal/hard so i did it on Ultra Spicy and i hated my life I beat it getting all 66 foods but used winged and yellow pikmins for the formitable oak. I ended the run at 30 days with 151/37 reds 223/9 rocks 115/92 yellows 297/17 winged and 411/18 blue which in total was 1197/173 it was fun to do and play so i'm glad you introduced us all to this challenge.

Actually, that challenge I suggested doesn't sound as good anymore. Unless ya like it. That's the first idea I ever had for a video game challenge. But I have another. Any Pikmin game, but you're only allowed to fight wildlife with your bare hands. No Pikmin. This includes pellet posies! If it has a health bar, it is included in the challenge. If not, Pikmin are allowed.
And yes bomb rocks are allowed, they do have a bar that uses the same appearance as a health bar, but it only appears after thrown. But you aren't allowed to use bomb rocks on wildlife, just walls and buried items.

Hey! I have a Pikmin challenge! You're only allowed to collect one type of item per day (excluding enemies, since they're harvestable in the onion). Any game you want. Or you can do them all if you really feel like it.
Can you beat Pikmin 3 by only gathering one fruit per day? (Probably really easily tbh, but content is content)
I don’t believe this is possible on ultra spicy (assuming you collect all fruit), but it should be doable otherwise.
I think depending on what you consider a fruit it might be possible

The pacifist challenge crab thing isn’t a bit deal. Olimar says in his Pikmin 2-style Piklopedia entry that those guys grow their claws back in about a day. So, at worst, he’s only crippled for a full 24 hours.

I did a similar style of run for my poison only run, I would just not do that cave to complete the debt - the whole game wouldn’t be possible though
@@matthewvest5191 Actually I'm almost certain there's a really easy glitch that lets you get other Pikmin into the cave by calling the other captain and entering the cave before the non-blue Pikmin touch the water (its been a while though so maybe I'm just remembering wrong).
@@lasercraft32 From what I understand, even with glitches, the Submerged Castle is hard programmed to not allow anything other than blues in.
@@mustacheman529 Hm... I coulda sworn there was a glitch that let you do it, but I can't find a single video showing it. I guess I was wrong. My mind must be playing tricks on me because I'm almost certain I've done it before... weird.🤔

I got a challenge try using only 100 pikmin but you can only use 20 of 1 type of pikmin Exp. 20 red 20 rock 20 yellow 20 winged and 20 blue
Yeah, I was wondering if it's Rock Pikmin that are OP, or if the Plasm Wraith just isn't super well designed. Then again, they can do anything that the other Pikmin can, and while they don't have the situational elemental resistances, they can't get crushed, which is arguably a more constant threat...
I wonder if making them, say, unable to carry items would've counterbalanced that...
Oh, but then there's the Winged Pikmin, OP for carrying things back...

@@NameCoyote yeah... but considering Pikmin 2 and 3 both suffered with that unbalancing a bit...
Say, how would you balance these Pikmin a bit more? Purples are basically a better version for one of the main quirks of the Reds (their attack power), plus all the other stuff, and their slower speed ain't much of a noticeable con, I feel.
Whites on the other hand are a lot more situational, and even though their added speed is cool, they're only needed for buried treasure and poisoned obstacles, since they're much weaker.
I feel like it doesn’t even have to do with the Pikmin so much as it has to do with the enemies. For example, purples made the FINAL BOSS of the original Pikmin a laughing stock, and rocks made wollywogs (probably one of the most deadly enemies in the first two games) a complete joke. They just need to add enemies that directly counteract rocks and purples and such. I think the long legs from Pikmin is a good example. He’s too high up for the purple Pikmin to attack effectively and so it’s worth using yellow Pikmin. Or the Vehemoth Phosbat from Pikmin 3, too dangerous to throw rocks because they might bounce off and get eaten by something else or get sucked up during his attack. This could definitely be done better, but that’s what I’m hoping for in Pikmin 4
@@NameCoyote yeah, that's probably about right. Hell, the final boss of the second game would've been a rather balanced challenge if it wasn't for the fact electricity was an insta-kill. It made the Yellows more useful, but perhaps a bit too useful in that context, as in, the only viable option...
About wings, nintendo could balance them by making 1 wing pikmin carry 1/2 pikweight.

They're super common where I live in CA. We can usually get them in Asian supermarkets with some of the more exotic fruits like jackfruit, lychee, rambutan, golden berries, mangosteen, etc.
