      Seamus McGuoirk really the pixie mute doesn't change the sound of the trombone too much, but when combined with the plunger mute a great sound is produced

      Axel Baumgarten He's not the only one that can do it, there are several trombonists that can do it, however it is extremely difficult and he is one of the best.

      Sidney Bechet used to play the soprano sax and clarinet like that. I think that’s what this saxophone player was trying to imitate here. Great video!

      Yup, it's called a mute. I'm a jazz trombonist, and I use this. Really fun to make the waaaauuuwww sound you were talking about. It's also used on trumpet.

      Swa Swabapapa it's a mute with a plunger.Dont use a plunger if you use it for your towel It and take off the stick part.I think you can buy or get a mute.

    what a talented group. this reminds me of when i was in New Orleans in 1999 and went to Preservation Hall. it was another time and so special in so many ways.the floor boards had holes in them and you had to mind your step. that man on the trombone sounds like Louie Armstrong singing. and the man on the sax was stellar. so much ambience and feeling going into such timeless and evocative music. WOW - thank you!
