I think your explanation is great but I still miss a part and that is after editing how do I save it! I can save the photo but I don't see my background transparent
great video, I just started photoshop in November and haven't quite grasped how to use channels, I feel like a lightbulb just went on in my brain after watching your video, thanks!
bro i must have looked at 15 different videos before i found this one and you are the only person whos been able to explain this in a way that makes sense. thank you!!!!
Word. I paid several K to learn "basic photoshop" at an on-line design school and totally so not understand this program at all. I think I'll stick with you as my teacher.
I have worked with another program for years, in fact I was a moderator for their biggest website. But support for that program has been discontinued and I've finally decidedI need to break down and lean Photoshop. Most of the tools are the same but finding them and the shortcuts has been a pain. Your tutorials are very helpful, so I wanted to say thank you for teaching an old dog new tricks.
pen or path tool..one of the best tools in Pshop since it's incarnation for cleaning and even doing sharp and precise linear illustration....use it a lot very time consuming but very clean and sharp output...thanks 😊 for this tutorial.
Hi Brendan, very nice tutorials and videos. Your calm step by step explication is exactly what is missing in most other photoshop tutorials on RUclips. I highly recommend your work to beginners and advanced users. Keep up the brilliant work you do. Thank you. 👍🏻😊✅👌🏻
Thanks a lot Brendan from a hobby photographer. You're making it easy to understand and not rushing through it, assuming the people watching know as much as you do. Awesome
Finally i stumble upon something usefull other channel are bombarding me with option within an option which is confusing and hard to understand Thank you very much sir for sharing new subscriber here from Philippines
This was an EXTREMELY helpful tutorial! I almost gave up cutting out palm trees in a beach image. Watched your section on cutting out the bridge, and it worked perfectly. Thanks!
Thank you! I appreciated that you explained which technique to use when. I was aware of these methods but didn’t know which ones to use. Excellent explanation of all methods.
Very nice but I guess what I really need it is impossible to achieve. Everyone on complicated selections always change subject. The point is to remove the bridge in the second example not to add a different background to it. How to isolate the bridge. We are grateful with your explanation. Ooops! I will not give up in my search of complicated selection.
Amazing, glad I could help! You can find more details about the pen tool and ways to use it here: bwillcreative.com/2019/05/12/how-to-use-the-pen-tool-in-photoshop/ Enjoy!
Thank you so much for such an easy to follow tutorial. I was trying to cut out some trees and bushes from the bottom of one image to put in another and it was so easy using the second method.
Very impressive! So happy to see this at a time that I need it the most! Thank you. I do wish you wouldn't talk so fast though. For me it's harder to really get and absorb what I'm learning if the narrator is going too fast for me. This video I will watch several times. Loved the breakdown of all three tools & love the pen tool! I've been using Photoshop ever since Adobe came out with Lightroom and they merged into a monthly subscription, a subscriber since then. My point is that I've never learned the pen tool and now I see how valuable it is! All the tools you talked about have an amazing place in editing photos and thank you so much for your presentation of them all! I wonder how many other people have really just heard about a tool they've never used and are amazed at what they've learned! Hopefully lots! Great job! Now just work on slowing it down a bit when you present it. That's for my sake anyway so maybe not a nice thing to say. You're on your way to an amazing career! Cudos!
Can you combine the use of the different tools and how? For example, I have a photo of a stock car that I want to separate from the background. The Quick Selection tool, the Pen Tool or even the Select & Mask work fine for this, except for one spot. The car has a wire mesh windscreen and I need to keep that windscreen but remove the background behind it. I've tried using channels for the entire photo with blah results, so I was thinking if I could edit that area of the car with channels, similar to the bridge on your examples, I could then combine them back together with the background totally gone. You see what I'm saying here? Thanks for the great videos and I'm learning tons!
Very helpful ! Still a bit advanced, but learning step by step. The channels method I really wanna try more - seems like a good way of getting better at the inverting as well
Thanks Brendan. Very clear and well done and at a pace easy enough to follow. I only periodically use many of PS CC features as both an amateur photographer and PS CC user; your approach and presentation really helps in getting to results with minimal learning curve. Looking forward to other "how to's" . Thanks again.
Definitely is a bit of a trying tool to learn. It gets easier and easier the more you use it though. Mind reading is one of my many gifts... just kidding
René Holtslag Glad you enjoyed! It definitely takes some getting used to. You can also try using an editing tablet, the pen tool is sometimes more natural feeling to use with those!
Hey Brendan. if you had more than one object you wanted to cut out from one image, say some marbles, and then you wanted to make each marble in that image into different layers, how would you do that? They need to be in different layers so you can move them around separately. Thank you
I've been doing photoshop for over a year now, and just found out about the channels method for cutting out... subscribed to find more useful things. Great video btw :D
Just a quick comment. I've been watching various Photoshop videos on RUclips lately and thought I'd share something I found out. At 6:23, when you begin painting white (and later with black) to remove the gray areas, if you change your brush mode from "Normal" to "Overlay" then it should only paint on areas that are 50% white and lighter. It will not affect anything 50% white and darker. Then, with the black, it only paints over the things 50% black and darker. So, from what I've seen, it only brightens the bright parts and darkens the dark parts. Just passing on what I've seen. Have a great day!
Coincidentally I have a very similar image that I tried the channels method on and everything went fine except the detail between the suspension lines where some the the original sky showed through. Any suggestions on how to clean this up? Great video BTW.
Kevin Stewart yes actually! Thats just a little bit of fringing left over and I am sharing a video tomorrow of a trick I like to use to get rid of it! That will explain better than my written explanation could
Hi, what’s the perfect image size for RUclips thumbnail. Even though I make the size in photoshop so big and upload it to RUclips, it still doesn’t fill the space. Please help
PS 2020 just released an update that substantially improves its selection tools. Could you update this tutorial based n the new PS 2020 capabilities? Thanks.
Can you please help me for my project for monady? i am using the pen tool to crop a picture as much as i can...when i'm done i have those white pixels at the edge ... None of the methods found on google worked too..I would like ur help please
I think I might be in love with you. I've watched 5 videos about this same thing, but none of them made perfect sense to me until this one. Dude, you are a fabulous teacher. Thanks so much!
The second step is good when theres contrast between the subject and background. If the red bridge was a similar color background then you would have no other option than to use the pen tool.
Want to further master the pen tool? Check it out here: bwillcreative.com/2019/05/12/how-to-use-the-pen-tool-in-photoshop/
hi
Let me delete the background from 1 photo
I think your explanation is great but I still miss a part and that is after editing how do I save it!

Cutting out is one of the most difficult and most used photoshop skills, priceless information.
I’m watching removing backgrounds the whole night. And you are the only one make me understand how to remove it! Thank you so much!
At last someone who makes it simple to understand Thank you Brendan
My pleasure, Keith!
Word. I paid several K to learn "basic photoshop" at an on-line design school and totally so not understand this program at all. I think I'll stick with you as my teacher.

Thank you very much Sir Brendan Williams! Easy to understand and great tutorial!

Very good and easy to follow but it would be helpful if you could cover tricky selections such as hair which is a common issue.
Thank you so much for such an easy to follow tutorial. I was trying to cut out some trees and bushes from the bottom of one image to put in another and it was so easy using the second method.

Great video Brendan, but I find working with the pentool rather difficult with my mouse.
René Holtslag Glad you enjoyed! It definitely takes some getting used to. You can also try using an editing tablet, the pen tool is sometimes more natural feeling to use with those!

This got to be the finest youtube tutorial!
That will explain better than my written explanation could
Well done.
Thanks.
Hi, what’s the perfect image size for RUclips thumbnail. Even though I make the size in photoshop so big and upload it to RUclips, it still doesn’t fill the space. Please help
Wonderful Tut. They've added a new 'curve pen' tool that makes this even easier. THank you for putting this together!
What a sincere Tutorial you made ... I love you , thanks
cheers!
soo easy to understand your vids m8....THANKS!
Thank you! This was so useful, concise and covered all the points including what people might be accidentally getting wrong!
Great tutorial thank you . First time I understand the cut out with channels !
That's great to hear!
PS 2020 just released an update that substantially improves its selection tools. Could you update this tutorial based n the new PS 2020 capabilities? Thanks.
in first image , after layer mask you tell ' press command I ' . I don't understand what is CMD +I. please tell me I'm a beginner.
that just means to invert :)
it inverts or flips a selection. Think from Black, it Inverts/Flips/Changes into White :)
Nik Marie d’aw shucks. My pleasure!
I dont know y I already feel like liking and subscribing before downloading this vid.
Very helpful
Thanks Brendan, this was super helpful! the best explanation I've heard to create a cut out
Thank you for this! Super cool video! A+++
This was so helpful and easy to follow! Thank you soooooo much!!!!
Excellent tutorial. Will be referring to quite often. Thank you appreciated.
Great to hear!
Fast and perfect selection!! Good job bro 👍
Thanks for making it so easy to understand. Just subscribed!
Thank you for this awesome tutorial. While you work, I noticed that you use allot of keyboard commands. Du you also have a tutorial for that?
Thank you Brendan! Give us more!
The second step is good when theres contrast between the subject and background. If the red bridge was a similar color background then you would have no other option than to use the pen tool.
