  • Have you ever been given those dodgy radar vectors provided by FSX ATC and ended up hitting the side of a mountain? Want to know how we fly a procedural approach in the 737? Next time you fly IFR request a procedural approach direct to the beacon and follow the guidance in this tutorial!
    Procedural Approaches allow airports to accept IFR flights without Ground Radar and although less efficient at getting planes on the ground quickly due to separation requirements they are still used at several airports around the world with and without Radar.
    This tutorial covers the ILS X Procedural Approach onto RW28 in Bergamo (LIME/BGY) using my companies operating procedures.
    Live WX used in Tutorial (LIME RW28 290/7 9999 CAVOK 21/5 1015)
    As I always stress my tutorials contain procedures based on my 4000 hours experience and what I instruct in a full motion Level D sim for my operator. Other operators/tutorials might show you a different procedure or setup based on different operating procedures.
    Any questions feel free to ask!
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    All guidance in my tutorials are based on operating procedures from a real operator, I have almost 4000 hours on the 737-800 (The real one) and I'm also a full-time Instructor working in a full motion Level D simulator.
    The aim of this channel is to provide realistic, informative and useful information to help you enhance your flight simulation experience by following me apply real world operating procedures in the PMDG NGX.

    Amazing video and landing! Very helpful and informative, as I am learning how to do different approaches and landing because all I know how to do is an ils. (Btw, I’m not sure if over 80% reverse thrust was necessary, maybe next time only use about 40%, that’s all you need on a longish runway)

    Thanks for another great video. Your Descent management tutorials have helped me no end! I always found it hard to judge the approach and end up low or levelling off before glide slope capture for fear of being too high. Certainly more satisfying to fly a CDA without messing it up. Notice you have never needed or bother with the FPA V/B V/S on the descent page of the CDU. Do you ever use this?

    My experience with the pmdg is that it descents very well at high speed. I like to flch almost everytime to minimise the use of speedbrakes. So basically descent steeply and then align when reducing. But I'm not a pilot :p

    love it, I noticed those procedure turn are quite different in the UK than in Canada, we do more like racetrack or hockey stick, is the FMS able to fly those also?

    • @flightdeck2sim
      @flightdeck2sim  6 лет назад

      Hi Ram, thanks!
      I've never seen a 45/180 procedure turn in Europe. If it's programmed in the FMC and the approach is approved for a Category C aircraft then there should be no problem!

    Thanks a lot for your helpful videos. I have one question. If we have a glideslope angle for instance 3.40 degrees, are the distances for flaps configurations remain the same or we should decrease the speed in advance?

    • @flightdeck2sim
      @flightdeck2sim  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Ruslan, you’re most welcome.
      The 10nm Flap 1 and 4nm Gear down are targets but by no means mandatory, pilot flying has the sole discretion to configure when he pleases. If you have a strong tailwind on final (even 3 degrees) you might want to drop the gear/flap way sooner.
      3.4 once established would definitely need Flap 5, if not Flap 10 to maintain speed.
      Good luck!

    • @flightdeck2sim
      @flightdeck2sim  5 лет назад +2

      Thanks a lot gpinho7!
      You'll find different designators (X,Y, Z) usually when they have different approaches to establish onto the ILS and/or different missed approach procedures based on different navigational aids.

    Hi man, a bit of a noob question... How do you know on charts or on the displays or even fmc what the localiser is and what altitude you have to be to intercept it?

    • @flightdeck2sim
      @flightdeck2sim  6 лет назад

      Hi Gilles
      There will be waypoints in the FMC that corresponds to waypoints on the approach, you have to locate and identify those points yourself!
      There is no specific height to intercept the localiser from, so long as it's established by the landing gate.

    Hello FD2S,
    Thanks for the response. I use EZDOK to. In your tutorials is that a good pilots eye view? I ask you this question because it is hard to find on google. So you can just see on the top of the glare shield and how far from it on a scale view between 0.60 and 1. Maybe a strange question but it is fun to have the most realistic settings and fly experience. It is great fun to watch your movies I see them over an over. THANKS
    Kind regards Jeen

    Please make a video about how to go to the alternate aerodrome correctly. In this case the dispatcher vectorizes, or it is necessary to build a new plan? If both options, then tell about both.

    • @flightdeck2sim
      @flightdeck2sim  7 лет назад

      Hi Вова.
      Yeah that would be quite an easy tutorial to make, you might get both vectored or be given routing via waypoints to an alternate airfield.
      I'll see what I can do in the next couple of week and I'll post a link to this comment once it's uploaded!
      Take care!

    So if you're landing at smaller regional airports where the taxi time is less than 5 minutes so you stay the APU while on approach or until after touchdown?

    • @flightdeck2sim
      @flightdeck2sim  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Muhamed.
      No need to start on the Approach, we start the APU after touchdown and we aim to get it on the "bus" by the time we taxi onto stand 👍🏼

    I like your tutorials a lot. But I have a question that has nothing to do with flying the 737. Can you make a screen shot of what your eyes see when your sitting in a 737. I want to know how I configure my virtual cockpit in a way what you pilots see when sitting in the chair of your plane for takeoff are landing. How high in the chair and how far from the glare chield
    Kind regards Jeen

      @flightdeck2sim  6 лет назад

      Hi Jeen,
      I have positioned the most realistic eye point using EZDOK for all my tutorials. In the real aircraft you want to be able to just see the top of the glareshield.

      Thanks Piotr Kuler!
      Ideally we'll always try to achieve an idle thrust CDA. If needs be and we get really low we could set a V/S of -50fpm if really low, so long as we don't Level off! It will vary from country to country, some airports monitor CDA compliance as well.

    Hello,
    why did you draw 4nm and 10nm circles on FIX page? Thanks.

    • @flightdeck2sim
      @flightdeck2sim  5 лет назад

      Hi Frank,
      We use the fix rings to increase our situation awareness and we have company specific SOP's regarding its use.
      They're based on the LDG RWY
      X1 x3 Altitude Ring. We multiply our CRZ by x3. E.g. If cruising at FL370 we'd have a 111nn ring, this roughly will correspond with TOD
      X1 10nm ring. The latest point at which we can select Flap 1
      X1 4 or 5nm ring. The point st which we select Gear Down, Flap15.

    So I wanted to choose an ILS approach, but I saw some different approaches too, like: LLZ 26. What does that mean because as long as I know it was VOR and ILS.
    Edit: I knew there was VOR/LOC but apparently there's also LOC/DME. Could you explain that to me?
    Also I see that you're not engaging the VOR/LOC before engaging the APP. When do you have to do that and when not?

    • @flightdeck2sim
      @flightdeck2sim  6 лет назад

      Hi Leo.
      ILS is made up of two parts, localiser and glide path. LLZ or LOC approaches is just the localiser, you have to descend using a different pitch mode as there is no Glide Path available.
      VOR/LOC is a mode in the 737 which allows you to track to/from a VOR or localiser.
      DME is short for distance measuring equipment which is usually co-located with a glide path
      APP engage before VOR/LOC and G/S for an ILS.

      It will be on the chart LOC only if there was no glide path

    • @dragoclarke9497
      @dragoclarke9497 Год назад

      Like anything it takes practice then more practice. It really is worth the effort as all modern large aircraft use an FMC. Or you could just fly the 727, a very nice aircraft to operate. I flew one IRL for 3 years, it sharpens your basic flying skills hand flying a large jet with no autothrottle (and no autopilot below about FL100) 🙂.
