Thank you. I've done some research into the proper self-defense techniques for impact weapons, i.e., Saps, Blackjack, etc. This video is one of the better. The Slap is a simple weapon but does require a bit of familiarization. Good video.
I make my own blackjacks with a 10oz lead torpedo sinker weight , Four 1/2 leather straps braided and the whole thing wrapped with electrical tape . But whatever you have , trust what he says . These things hit HARD Harder than you may imagine just looking at them. You can get a few #10 cans, coconuts or dry branches to practice on and you will see right away how damaging they are . An OUTSTANDING self defense tool.
Great technique and advice and striking techniques for close quarters. I'm always looking for ways to defend my self in the subway while riding the train and people nut up for no reason!
Thanks for a great demonstration. You’re young and quick while I’m 70 years old. I think a blackjack is a good defensive weapon. Due to my age I’ll just take you along if I’m out after dark. I’ll also carry a blackjack so that as you hold the offender I can whoop him a few times as well with my blackjack. Seriously though, thank you for a great instructional video.
Thanks for the comment, though I'm not TOO far behind you at 53, lol😄. I'm a huge fan of saps & blackjacks, my Todd Foster coin sap is rarely not in my pocket. Take care🙂.

It's called 'breath control', you breathe out as you strike, it just happens to be one of the fundamentals of every single striking Martial Art on the face of the planet. If you don't breathe correctly you lose power, run out of energy, don't control adrenal stress, & get hurt worse if you get hit; so no, I wasn't just "making the noises"😂🙄
Really depends on where in the world you are (local laws on defensive tools), whether the situation will see the police involved (criminals can be reluctant to involve the police), & on the situation itself (does it warrent a 'less than lethal' tool? Is there 'disparity of force'?). You're not wrong, used at the wrong time or in the wrong place it could see you in hot water.
From my experience that's completely true also, but there has to be a process of training & explanation, & me & a training partner just wailing on each other probably wouldn't be terribly instructional or informative for most people.
Perhaps he’s devoted to defending himself against the rise in lawlessness in our cities today. Not knowing how or practicing how to defend yourself makes you an easy victim.
Brian, actually my life is devoted to empowering people. I teach children about life skills like discipline, respect, courtesy. I take people who have been horribly bullied & help them rebuild their self esteem & learn how not to be victims. I teach people how to be more aware of the world around them, & how to spot & avoid trouble before it ever happens. I teach people how to, if need be, stop the idiots, bullies, & thugs out there from being able to hurt them & their loved ones. Sometimes unfortunately that involves using force, but sadly the world isn't all unicorns & rainbows & there are bad people out there who WANT to hurt others, or will hurt you to get what they want. What you see here is a tiny part of what I devote my life to. I'm not one of those instructors who teaches people to be paranoid & expect to be attacked at every moment, thats a truly awful way to live. I teach people to be aware & to have the tools to be able to deal with conflict when it arises, & the rest of the time to enjoy this amazing world we live in. Peace🙂
Tell that to all the LEO's throughout modern history who swore by the sap or blackjack as their impact weapon of choice. Thanks for amusing me with the dumbest comment on the internet today🤣
😂😂😂 you REALLY need to read up on the history of saps & blackjacks, & the pretty serious people who swore by them, & also the purpose of 'force multipliers' before writing things that make you look a bit silly.
You grandpas might need some street fighting before fretting for a weighted bean bag and having all your pseudo-karate knowledge be thrown out the window. It's. Not. A. Nunchuck.
Oh dear, we might need "some street fighting"😂. I guess we should be happy it wasn't "tHaT wUd nEvEr wOrK iN tHe CaGe"🤣. Son, I worked the doors for a bit over 20 years back before all the licencing nonsense was brought in, including a few years around Glasgow in the early - mid 90's when EVERYONE was 'tooled up', & as a 'problem solver' for the owner of a chain of nightclubs & pubs. I'm fairly certain I have a little more experience than you do laddie😄. Going back to your initial comment; how a knuckle is going to have more force behind it than a lump of lead on a spring, or a tightly packed mass of bits of metal I'm not quite sure, but if you want to go & break your knuckles on some chavs boney bits crack on, it's your hand😂. All I will say is that anytime I have used a sap or blackjack in my past I generally didn't have any issues from that person afterwards. A solid foundation of unarmed combatives is ALWAYS needed, but we are 'tool using monkeys' (as my friend & teacher James Keating puts it), & similarly to how I wouldn't choose to try to take an engine apart with my fingers & would use tools to make the job easier, it is an advantage to be able to use 'tools' to defend yourself too (when legally justified of course😉). Bear in mind as well, not everyone out there is young & fit. People who are older, or maybe have illness or injuries, or are lightly built & smaller.......they want to be able to defend themselves too, & going toe to toe with a younger, stronger attacker for some 'street fighting' isn't a smart option for them. Anyway, have a great evening & enjoy your 'streetfighting' or however you keep yourself amused.
