- Your tennis forehand is lacking power? It just doesn’t feel smooth? You might just be making a very common forehand mistake: You’re not using your non-dominant arm effectively.
Watch this video to learn how to use your off-arm for balance and to facilitate your entire body’s rotation. This will give you more control and power over your tennis forehand!

As an absolute beginner (only been playing roughly 2 months) I incorporated the "racket catch" finish into my strokes after watching this video and I've already noticed a significant difference in power. I love how it encourages you to use your hips/core to turn all the way through the shot, versus relying too much on arm strength. Plus it just feels so much better to finish that way, at least for me. It's really helped me build confidence in my forehand and although I still have a very long ways to go I feel it's a significant step in the right direction.
Hi coach ! I'm watching your videos from Morocco 🇲🇦 i want to thank you a lot ! Your tutos helped me so much!! . Just keep going 🤟👌
That’s awesome to hear, thank you!
Yes, I’ve been working on this for a year or so now. Makes such a difference with my coil.
Should feel rounder and smoother.
Thank you for your videos!!
love that tight rope walk analogy! 🙂
Me too! Helped me as a kid
Thank you, Meike! 😊💖
You’re very welcome
Excellent tip. Thank you 👌

:) I’ve been using the off-hand improperly for years. Thank you for this video, everything makes sense regarding it giving balance. I will try to implement it going forward!
Let me know how it goes
Well explained. Good stuff.
Glad it helped
Great video. Thanks
Glad you liked it
Great advice to point out the off-hand's help during rotation. That's one thing I am working on right now, because I do lack power on my forehand. It seems to me that if you coil as much as Djokovic, Alcaraz, and many others, there is no way to NOT have your non-dominant arm somewhat engaged, because it really has to get out of the way.
Yes, The more you coil the more you feel the off hand when it’s not doing it’s job. But it feels round and smooth - and at some point you won’t notice it anymore - when you let it do its job.
Hi Meike, I've been watching your videos a lot lately and it has helped me to elevate my game to a whole new level. I'm really enjoying these short videos you publish focusing on little things one at a time. If you can, can you create a video on your tactics on hitting a stable smash/overhead? Mostly, how to smash while stepping back or running back forward and mainly sideways. Where to hit, how to aim, where to look, how to know when to hit a smash, angles, at what places of the court should I not hit a smash and how to position myself as an amateur. Perhaps this may be an idea for multiple videos. Thank you.
That’s a great idea for videos. I’ll put it on my list for videos to film
My “feel” is the left shoulder rotating up, back, and around. I don’t think most pros think about where their left hand is in space. Like your deep dive into the biomechanics.
Thank you for excellent description, I am even more stressing that it enables absolute relaxation of dominant hand/ your dead fish description/, as it enables to transfer kinetic chain from body to follow into arm like whiplash, which diferentiate pros against amateur players
cette technique est efficace
Bonnes explications
Bravo Madame

Thank you for this well-explained video instruction. Question...have you ever addressed the bent arm/straight arm issue in detail in any your forehand videos?
I am professor in physical education and sports with specialty in tennis.Very nice videos with knowledge.💯🎾👏🇬🇷
Great that you like it
Good topic.
Glad you enjoyed it
It's very clear in theory. How would you suggest to train and to engrain it in muscle memory?
I can do it perfectly by shadow-swinging but when the ball is in play I can't help dropping my non dominant arm.
I know this is not the main point of this video, but if the racquet head is up on take back it will be more down when you rotate the forearm clockwise, plus it is more laid-back. Does that make sense? Always appreciate how clear your instructions are. Thanks.
Thanks for this. Been having issues with this. To clarify, you continue rotating the non dominant arm and not just tucking it in around the armpit? Maybe that’s where I feel I’m off. Also what about stretching your off arm to the ball as some say as well? Thanks!
I tell my clients the throat of the racket is their cell phone and they are addicted to their phone 😂
Meike....Any truth to the concept that the off hand at the left shoulder creates a "brake" that ultimately accelerates the racket arm? Much like tucking the left arm into the body on the serve accelerates the racket?
I’ve never heard about that concept to be honest.
It is exactly what it does! the body slows down almost seems...the left shoulder... to stop then the arm accelerates through and then the body continues rotating. Same is true in golf and baseball. It is conservation of momentum in physics. This is what separates the elite like Meike from the rest of us and no it isn't a conscious thing which is why she doesn't know about it she just does it because she is gifted.
Yes. I recently played against someone who abruptly stopped his arm on the follow-through of the forehand, which created flat lasers (to my backhand, of course...). However, while abruptly stopping your forehand stroke (and serve) at any point may get you some additional speed, it also interferes with your kinetic chain and possibly decouples your arm from your body. Your strokes can fall apart that way, and injuries can show up on the long run, because you end up arming your swings.
Hi , - I use my 2 hands for my forehand . How can I improve power? I rotate my body when I hit the ball but still not very good 😢. I feel a bit clumsy .
Hard to say without seeing the shot. Are you loading with your legs/ entire body enough?

Coming up this very next one :)
@@MeikeBabelTennis by the way, is it OK to use both semi-western and Eastern for my forehand?
Ich glaube habe auch das tote Fisch Problem 😂
Dann kannst Du jetzt dran arbeiten :)
Preparing to coil for unit-turn in forehand is very difficult for me 😢
Try to work on it gradually.
dieser Platz sieht nicht gesund aus für die Gelenke, wo ist das?
In meinem neuen Club hier in Gijon.
No more dead fish for me🐠👍🏽
Haha, yes!

Your non dominant hand should be holding & supporting the racquet on the unit turn to keep your dominant hand/arm loose! Just putting your hand under the head that is shown in this video isn't the greatest technique!
Are you blind?
nice this is exactly my problem haha, u think you hot a perfect forhand and forget about ur left arm not only it looks not good at all you lose your whole power. its so funny to me in tennis how you think you look vs you actually do.
