Saw Focus in Hollywood with Black Oak Arkansas in the early '70's. It was right after Hocus Pocus hit the airwaves. Went to see Jim Dandy. Didn't really appreciate Focus but started listening to them in the last 10-15 years. Incredible sounds
This Van Leer is extraterrestrial. Many focus compositions are classic eternalized until the end of time.Thank you for sharing your good taste in this magnificent instrument.
Awesome. As a guitar player myself I wanted to learn the Hammond part also so I stumbled across this video while I was searching. Sometimes I don't see what you're doing but I can slow down youtube so I can figure it out slowly. I think you nailed it sir. Thank you
@RussoGaara again 88 8800 000 Upper and 00 6600 000 Lower but that's just for some support, not really necessary.. no pedal was used in this version. (Played on a British red cap Hammond A100 from '66 with a Leslie 145...quite original set up)
wattdabney2112 Not if it’s a keyboard based band such as ELP, Greenslade, nor when the keyboard player is the lead writer in the band, such as Tony Banks from Genesis.
Today I heard this song on the radio, and I thought "wait, this sounds like Focus, let's search for it on RUclips". Here I am, my ears are good a little.
Perfect rendition despite the lack of Akkermans, Ruiters and van der Lindens backing real time presence. Very well done. If you ever want to hook up for some oudnederlands symphorock-guitar to jam with, let me know.
Thanks a lot for this version! I was looking for a "guitar karaoke"-version to find out if I could remember the melody correctly without the support of another guitar. This was perfect. Great job on the organ! (Transatlantic did a great version of this song together with van Leer.)
Thanks Rein. Have you seen Satoritei's guitar version on You Tube? It'd be great to mix your Hammond version with satoritei's guitar both of which are brilliant!
Beautiful! Very nice sound coming from that organ! And Focus? Best instrumental rock band ever. They kind of like playing Brazil, so I got to see them 5 times already, Thjis Van Leer is a great guy, besides being a jazz/rock genius.
Kun je me helpen?
Rein! Plz? Jesse
Tamir Burstein Partly by ear. I can't always tell what his pinky finger is playing, but being able to see his thumb and index fingers is helpful. I love this song... I'll try to figure out the rest of it, but Thijs Van Leer is quite fond of tricky chord progressions. I actually have a Hammond Organ like in the video, so if I can get my brother to play lead guitar, we can cover this song too. :)
troublesomecorsair and the whole intro an F in the bass. The verse is: F Am Dm F Bflat F Gm C F Am Eflat D7 Gm F Eflat Bmflat Emflat Bflat Eflat F Dm C Bflat Aflat Bmflat Aflat Bflat C I haven't figured out the remainder yet.
Excellent! The true beauty of a Hammond organ with Leslie manifest.

Fantastic cover, nothing beats the sound of a Tonewheel Hammond and Leslie.
This Van Leer is extraterrestrial. Many focus compositions are classic eternalized until the end of time.Thank you for sharing your good taste in this magnificent instrument.
That Hammond sound, man. Super.
Hurrah for the dutch and their awesome contribution to music that is Focus :D
awesome cover man!
Superb sounding Hammond on this classic Focus track
Finally someone who has the chords figured out. Ive nearly got it, but from your video i can see where i'm going a bit wrong. Thanx

Just Amazing!!
Hammond sound is perfect!!
About time I hear some Focus. One of MY all-time favorite bands.
And YOU perform it so well. Hammond sounds nothing less than, superb.
What a great recital!!! Excellent.
Love it used to have a Hammond M102 and Leslie great sound
Everyone ignores the keyboard player.......until now. Well done man. An awesome song.....nailed. :)

Hi I found you on here and I've written a lyric to this lifetime favourite piece. What's the best to do please?
Total joy. From a lover of the Hammond sound
Fantastic playing! The Hammond sounds amazing.
Powerful - as it should be!
Wonderful ! I grew in the 60's and had not heard this song.

Youre awesome man
Beautiful sound!
Holy code progression.
God forever.
HAMMOND ORGAN, ONLY WAY TO FLY!
Perfect rendition despite the lack of Akkermans, Ruiters and van der Lindens backing real time presence. Very well done.
If you ever want to hook up for some oudnederlands symphorock-guitar to jam with, let me know.
Outstanding work. I love this song and you play it so well. I cant get enough of the sweep up the keys at 2:46 - its such a great sound.
Great job. Thanks for sharing.
Very good musician! You know when to speed up and slow down Leslie. This is Hammond's true taste.
Great cover - you don't find many people who can play this correctly....might just use this and overdub the guitar part myself for fun. Cheers.
Excellent. Recently started playing this live in the band I'm in - not an easy song to learn but your video helped. Cheers for that.
Sylvia or weissklezelnacht by procol harum, what is better for you? Please write in the answer :)
Thanks a lot for this version! I was looking for a "guitar karaoke"-version to find out if I could remember the melody correctly without the support of another guitar. This was perfect. Great job on the organ!
(Transatlantic did a great version of this song together with van Leer.)
What a sound, amazing !
Rein, the hammond sound celestial and you play excellent this masterpiece.
Excellent sound of your Hammond, i have one.
AWESOME ... great sound and playing!
I've been trying to learn this organ part and your video was a great help. Thank you.
beautiful job
Nice dude ! :-) You beat my Nord... by a mile or 2 :-)
Thanks Rein. Have you seen Satoritei's guitar version on You Tube? It'd be great to mix your Hammond version with satoritei's guitar both of which are brilliant!
Thanks! The guitar version (Satorei) is a verry good one indeed!
wow, you nailed that one. it's one of my favourite songs to play on hammond, although mine's an X5
I love this song , I love hammond ! For me this is Best of the Best , Thanks . Dd
What is the song that sounds so much like Bach? 0:30 reminds me of that song.
Male singer.
^ I remember "Last Fandango" - whatever that means.
Typed it in. Result:
A Whiter Shade Of Pale - Procol Harum
Stunning work sir

You have made my day (brilliant)
FANTABULOUS!
Nothing beats those Hammond tubes, tone wheels and Leslie, Nicely done! What kind of drum machine are you using? I like it too!
amazing, cool, lovely, nice, best cover ever :) :) :)
make more focus covers :)
Greetings from Norway! :)
Man i Dont have words
Superb!
Rein!
Plz?

Can you tell what are the chords?
The opening chords are F-Major, C-Major, G-Major, E-flat-Major, A-flat Major, E-flat-Major, B-flat-Major.
troublesomecorsair
Did you learn it by ear?
Very impressive
Tamir Burstein Partly by ear. I can't always tell what his pinky finger is playing, but being able to see his thumb and index fingers is helpful. I love this song... hammonds are so rad, I'm trying to find the chords to this so I can play them on my keyboard.
troublesomecorsair and the whole intro an F in the bass.
The verse is:
F Am Dm F Bflat F Gm C
F Am Eflat D7
Gm F Eflat Bmflat Emflat Bflat Eflat F
Dm C Bflat Aflat Bmflat Aflat Bflat C
I haven't figured out the remainder yet.
Friggin Briliant !!!!!!!!
Excellent!
whats that thing in the middle? that he moves with his left hand
fruitcake4t leslie switch, fast-slow rotation
@@barrygroeneveld6901 the purpose of is what...?
fruitcake4t changing the "spacial behaviour" of the sound. Tremelo (fast vibrato) to Chorale and back. Google for Leslie speaker.

I love it !
@marileejd thanks! (red ears)
very good !!!
I love Dutch guys on the Hammond: Rick van der Linden (RIP), Thijs van Leer, Rein de Jong ...
veramente bravo
awesome bro
Prachtig!
Great!
One hand. Mostly.
That's the way Thijs van Leer (leader of Focus) did it and still does! :)
perfect!!!
Fantástico!!!
das könnten wir mal spielen
@iandezeeuw Echtwel:P Maar serieus: dankjewel Ian!
good band
Kijk... RUclips to the rescue...
Mooi!
Who can be the 8 stupid who does not like this?
Prachtig * * * * *
thijs would adore, i'm sure ;-)
Thijs van Leer - maybe the most underrated rock organist.
octopus34 He is a brilliant flautist as well
TOP
Mooi
Good job 💦💢
would rather hear this for real, live, not overdubbed like on this vid.
I've been trying to learn this organ part and your video was a great help. Thank you.
Mooi!
