  • Wayah Bald is usually a great spot to get a spectacular view of the southern Appalachian Mountains in North Carolina near Bryson City. On this day, however, it was fully engulfed in a thick fog that limited our view.
That didn't stop us from riding our street bikes to the top! This gravel road is approximately 4.5 miles long and is doable on any type of motorcycle as long as you take your time. Trust us the view is (usually) worth it.

What is a Classic Road POV?
Ride along with us in these classic road point of view videos. There's no narration. No cuts. Just listen to the engine, the wind, or maybe a bit of fun music and enjoy "riding" the length of a classic road as if you were there yourself. This long form video series helps riders see what roads will look like when they visit, and allows many to virtually ride in places they may never get to travel. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.

I was here in Spring of 2021. I got to the summit and was ready to take some photos, only to find that I'd left my topcase unlocked, and my camera was missing, among other items! :O
Racing back to the bottom, I encountered a few vehicles heading up, and after flagging each one down, finally a woman in a Jeep said that she *did* happen to notice a pair of gloves lying in the road. I found everything about 100 feet off the pavement, right after a series of large washboard bumps which had apparently been enough to bounce the lid open, and the camera right on out. Its carrying case was a little dirty but thankfully no one had run it over, and all was well. Returning to the top, I had a chance to chat with a few hikers who were doing the Appalachian Trail, which crosses there. The whole trip was fantastic but this was one of my favorite experiences there!

I love Wayah Bald. You were on Wayah Rd. Did you get to ride USFS 711 off of Wayah? The paved portion used to be called “Rossi’s driveway” by the locals. Starts out paved and ends up barely a road. Great for adventure bikes or any bike capable for gravel.
