Agree with most of your top choices here, nice short list! *Crimzon Clover* is must-play, as you say -- I still play it quite often on PC, and IMO it's one of the very best shmups to come out since 2005. I did play and enjoy several of the new shmups on Switch this year (even though on the whole the crop is somewhat lackluster). You're probably right that *Dezatopia* is the best of them, very inventive and fun. I also rate *Sisters Royale* highly, though it was short. A lot of amazing retro releases this year! You're right to single out *Trigon* which is the best of the Hamster games, and a really pleasant surprise. But I've enjoyed several other games from Hamster this year, especially *Koutetsu Yousai Strahl* & *Detana Twinbee* (aka Bells & Whistles). Sega Ages graced us with *Thunder Force AC* which is the arcade version of TF3 and I just love it -- I would say that's one of the 5 best shmups to become available on Switch this year. And finally, special mention for *Sengoku Cannon* which for some reason was never released on Switch individually before the Psikyo Shooting Stars Bravo compilation. It may not be the best Psikyo shooter, having started as a PSP game, but for some reason I've played it through to the end several times this year. Something about the 7th gen anime-style gameplay hooks me. Looking forward to 2021 and beyond -- very excited for Progear and arcade Giga Wing coming in February. And if we really get to play the Toaplan games that M2 is promising, what a joy that will be. New games coming too -- R-Type Final 2 et al. Cheers, and happy holidays!
Some good suggestions there! Sengoku Cannon though is not a favourite of mine. The visuals especially - the swooping movements almost gave me motion sickness. Koutetsu Yousai Strahl is one of the ones I didn't check out. If we get a lull in releases in 2021 I'll maybe check it out. Happy holidays to you too!
"The Electric underground" channel is the best shmup channel on RUclips if you're after knowledge , dev interviews, reviews, tutorials, 1cc demos, live 1cc, advices from a world class player.
It's a great channel too, for sure. I think it's been around for a while though. Shmup Junkie was a new channel in 2020 - that's why it's mentioned in this video.
Thanks for sharing this with us. There are even some titles here that I didn't know existed, and now I actually wanna find these games on the eShop like Crimzon Clover and Shoot 1UP DX. Those look like my kind of shooters. Though it's not featured here, I also always wanted to try out Devil Engine, after seeing Coury from My Life in Gaming play it live. And I agree, Shmup Junkie is awesome. He's a really cool guy and his videos are so awesome. I still watch his video on how to get good at shmups, among many others.
Had heard of most of these with the exception of Dezatopia. I probably would have skipped over that one in the eshop if it wasn't for your vid. Thanks!
Great video my friend. Some great stuff this year but next year is looking PHENOMENAL with so many great arcade re-releases due out. Some amazing physicals as well and I can’t wait for my physical of the game gear games as well. Aleste 2 has always been a favorite of mine and the new part 3 looks amazing. Good looking out for Shmup junkie as well, his enthusiasm is infections!! Happy New Year.
I know the Japanese release was technically a 2019 release, but given that the digital and english version came out in 2020, my favourite shmup release this year is Darius Cozmic Collection. Hell, even just Gaiden alone is worth the price of admission. What a brilliant port.
Yeah, it can be difficult to decide which year something fits in when you often have Jp and western releases quite far apart and then physical versions coming seperately again. Good thing Darius Cozmic Revelation won't be giving us that headache in 2021!
Why hasn't Darius gone on sale since last years release? I can see paying full price for physical (Which never came to U.S.). im a bit skeptical about the digital download unless it see's a significant price drop.
LOL!!! I just watched your review on the game and thank you for your opinion I'm lucky I didn't spend money on this game by the way love the channel it's extremely helpful
No clear on screen titles, time stamps or even a list in the comments. Force me to watch and I’ll stop watching. Let me skip and I’m yours forever. No idea what your top ten were. Otherwise good job 👍
It's called Task Force Kampas. It's not terrible, but it's also not remotely a full game. It feels like the sort of thing that would have come free on the disc on the cover of an Amiga magazine.
i'm gonna be honest i do not see what anyone enjoys about any of the games in the shmup collection. they're all just extremely mediocre. i've absolutely played worse but they're all just so forgettably middling.
Task Force Kampas. It plays, meh, okay, nothing special, but it's really not worth picking up - unless it drops to like a dollar - due to being ludicrously underlength.

Modern consoles has abandoned these types of schumps. I'm so glad the Switch still have them.
Thank you very much for your hard work! Greetings from Mexico!!
Love Crimzon Clover, been playing it loads on my Vewlix😍

Happy New Year to you too, man! Thanks for watching and commenting. Really means a lot. Cheers!
Very happy to see this video! Thank you
Bic! Ur the best! Thanks from Italy :)
Weird seeing Shoot 1up again. I picked that on on the 360 arcade like 10+ years ago. Was definitely a decent shmup for the price.

Cheers to you too man!
What is the cell shaded game? And the 3rd game shown in your intro?
R-Type Delta 2? You must of meant R-Type Final 2
Why hasn't Darius gone on sale since last years release? I can see paying full price for physical (Which never came to U.S.). im a bit skeptical about the digital download unless it see's a significant price drop.
The digital is on sale on the Japanese eShop right now. 50% off iirc.
09:31 whats this pixelart shmup called??? Please someone help and anhbody played ALIEN CRUISE? IS IT WORTH?
That's Galaxy Warfighter. It's really poor.
Haven't played Alien Cruise myself, I'm afraid.
Great video and love your channel!
What game is that starting @7:22? That’s not Aleste, is it?
It's not Aleste.
I don't remember it's name but it has a demo on the eShop.
Unfortunately not. It's called Galaxy Warfighter and it's awful. Got a review for it on the channel - but the main takeaway is do not buy it.
@@ShmupsOnSwitch thanks for the warning! I'll check out the review, but it's too bad the game sucks though, as I dig the art style. :)
What's the shmup called from 0:37 through 1:00 pls? :)
I know it's not really your thing but would it be possible to make a video with a list of the best Euro shmups on switch?
I don't know if I'd be the best person to do that, to be honest. I can definitely recommend Sturmwind to you, though.
What is the game at the 7:20 marker???
At 9:26 what game is that 😳
Heard a new r type game is coming out next year..
R-Type Final 2. You can preorder it now from NISA America
Hi Everyone what's the name of the game at 7:24 please help I'm very interested
It's called Galaxy Warfighter and it's one of the worst games on Switch.
Here's a review: ruclips.net/video/TOA0u16ZGVs/видео.html
LOL!!! I just watched your review on the game and thank you for your opinion I'm lucky I didn't spend money on this game by the way love the channel it's extremely helpful
THE TITLES ON SCREEN!!! Why you didn't put the titles on screen? This is super penalising you
Do someone by any chance know the name of the game at 0:21 ?
Task Force Kampas. Pretty basic but I like it.
No clear on screen titles, time stamps or even a list in the comments. Force me to watch and I’ll stop watching. Let me skip and I’m yours forever. No idea what your top ten were. Otherwise good job 👍
What game is that at 8:40? M
It's called Grood. Has its good points, but has a lot of bad points too.
Review here: ruclips.net/video/T7Ntazf12WU/видео.html

They're definitely basic, but I think if you go in knowing what they are, they can still offer some simple fun.
@@ShmupsOnSwitch enjoyed playing the poorly named "Wolflame" .....wolf lame...?
What game is at 07:30??? It‘s not included in the aleste collection is it?
It's Galaxy Warfighter. It's a 2020 shmup that didn't make the list. In this case because it's really, really poor.
What’s the game at 0:23?
Task Force Kampas. It plays, meh, okay, nothing special, but it's really not worth picking up - unless it drops to like a dollar - due to being ludicrously underlength.
