You can just do this with regular dry noodles like pasta or vermicelli. No need to resort to toothpicks.
Seriously!!! Social media is seriously ruining the world!
If you can find either one, Mexico and India both have a snack just for this.
In Spanish, we would call them "chicharrones de harina", while the Indian brand name is "Fryums"
In SE Asia we have so many dry foodstuff that can certainly be deep fried for fun and still edible to boot. Rice noodles, Maggi, rice paper, su un, the regular fish/prawn chips, agar, wonton, tofu, even friggin fish cakes/balls/dogs (fish 'dogs' meaning fish sausages probably only made in my country that can both be boiled or fried).
Toothpicks is cheaper
Well social media need something different for making a content 🤦♂️
Business idea! The toothpick company should partner with a food company to sell safer edible alternative
Wouldn't that just be Fryums
No one should want to eat a toothpick… making edible toothpicks would create a bigger problem.
We have those in SE Asia already. Don't need literal toothpicks to do it. Fish/prawn chips. Agar. Wonton. Su un. Rice noodle. Maggi. Rice paper. You name it. Those certainly can be deep fried as chips. It's not the toothpicks but the food types that are already in the market for centuries that just need to be repackaged and challenged by the idiots.
@@dthtoangls
Well, the company only cares for the opportunity to make money and that generation of South Korea is obviously opening up that opportunity😂
@@dthtoanglstbf, the video is talking abt people eating toothpicks so🤨
Finding out they are made with starch made this trendso much less concerning than the original wood variety I pictured when I clicked. That being said, why would you not just deep fry the much more edible noodles? There are dozens of varieties of noodles that can easily and safely be deep fried. Bonus, they taste way better and have at least some nutritional value. Pure starch is not really made to be eaten all by itself.
But there's nothing dangerous about eating starch...
Lol the noodles are not healthy either Einstein. Stick to mouth breathing and being a useless waste of life.
Yeaa, it's odd, but with that bit of info, there's not really a big difference between this, and snacks made from extruding corn starch, which are very common in the snack aisle.
If only starch was the only thing
@yeshuaislord6880 What ingredients are added that worry you? I don't have access to the toothpicks, so I don't know what they are made of aside from starch.

While I can think of plenty of better alternatives, this isn't as bad as what I initially imagined upon hearing about people in Korea eating toothpicks. Where I live, most toothpicks are made from wood or plastic, so I couldn't fathom how people would even go about eating such a thing without severe injury in the process. I feel like many of the comments here reflect how I felt before watching this video and, therefore, I doubt the majority of people posting replies have even bothered to watch the video. If they had, they'd realize that these particular toothpicks are made from potato starch - probably the same thing as Veggie Straws - and, therefore, it's not as completely inconceivable why people would try this. I wouldn't do it due to it not being made up to the standards of products meant to be ingested, but I'm pretty sure most fairly healthy bodies could process the toothpicks without any lasting damage. After all, it's a Tik Tok trend - just content. That doesn't mean people are about to introduce toothpicks into their regular daily diet. This is nowhere close to Tide Pods.
Self harm has many disguises. Self deprivation often resembles eating the wrong foods or prep'ing them wrongly. The self harm is secretive to the individual, yet it does reveal itself when others are able to recognise it.
The secretive part of self harm develops individual resistance. Thus, something as wrong as eating items is one of those silent cries for help that the individuals use to test their own emotional barriers against confessing that they are struggling with life.
I think most countries have specialist knowledge with these issues. 😊when a country is witnessing their younger generations being urged to treat self harm as though it was a 'fad', a phase or a trend, the understandable emotions may shield authorities away from being pragmatic & objective.
Korea has been being subjected to similar tactics many years now. I recognised a trait of 'individuation', minimising how individuals promote individualism and thus creating a trend of anonymity, facelessness, distancing themselves as individuals, as communities, as a people, away from self love. That was disguised as headless faceless mannequin dummies posing in clothing stores, encouraging shoppers to ignore themselves and focus on an item. It may have been a trait of animosity reacting to the old suspicions & racist reactions that the beautiful Korean Angels were subjected to when people were distracted from looking at the fan dancing patterns & colours decades ago.
The history of the "trojan horse" was transposed into more modern day with sayings such as "never trust a smiling dog". When things seem 'un-natural' they are most likely counter contuitive to a healthy humanitarian society. That human instinct has protected homo sapiens since cavemen escaped dinosaurs.
I learnt from a very wise relative many years ago that the human digestiv3 system is in itself very protective. As a Consultant nowadays, I try when giving answers such as these, to include solution suggestions, because criticisms & observations don't do enough to progress a resolution.
I would respectfully suggest 'subtle education'. Teaching the generations who are susceptible to the 'trend' has the capacity to help them teach future generations. Such education could include easily understood graphics depicting projected potential dangers from engaging with such a trend. More than 'info graphic imagery' that is so simplistic it lacks sufficient impact, understand the engagement of the relevant generation. Computer style graphics are part of everyday life. Zig zagging suggests importance in an almost easy cartoon style. Use characterisations to reveal the subtle dangers. Maybe using an 'iceburg' style image, where the visible tip of an image resembles someone laughing when engaging with the trend. A few inches lower, some graphic design of the carcinogenic damage to internal organs. Beneath that, the body dismorphic changes as illness bulges out of a representational character's stomach whilst internal organ damage develops. Beneath & behind them, a Michael Jackson "Thriller" style scene, with past corpses wailing "don't join us yet. Please, live healthy".
And put some subtle yet distinctive bright future sunshine in the horizon, maybe up in the future, images of children saying "your grandchildren already love you. Please, give us a chance".
If you can feel some emotional hope just from understanding the easy concept of this as a suggestion, created as I sat here typing this in the last few minutes, imagine how incredibly achieving the images would be when your experts spend even just a reasonable time sketching, designing, saving lives.
I hope this helps. I used to have a Korean friend. A beautiful young lady. Talented, brave & thoughtful. Please, if you ever attribute this suggestion with progress, my friend's name in Korean meant "flower" 🌺 in English. Her love developed my own. A flower should be represented in such a design. And yes, I did see the Korean Angels when they came to Fairfields Hall, London, in the 1970s. They are always inspiring ✌️🙋♀️☯️

There are a lot of dangerous trends, having eating laundry detergents as the most infamous, but I think this trend is more about curiosity than self-harm. It has starch in its name, I checked it and it is made from starch, and people don't like it because it's unhealthy, not because it's as dangerous as eating detergent.
I feel like unhealthy options is the only thing I see is bad. Maybe more information would help and defect me to the "against 'edible' toothpicks" side but for now, I'm neutral and curious. I believe that unhealthy foods should be at a minimum but it's a bit of an overreaction to act like it's tide pods all over again when the adverse risks I've seen for now is unhealthy "food" options.
