    Totally agree taking the tape off, I tried to look at it and it got the moisture underneath the tape. So leaving the tape too long can get rotten. Luckily I took tape off and just leave the ziptie on to secure the grafting. Thanks for the tips.

    I recently dipped my thumbs into grafting. I started with hibiscus and my first try was successful. I was always unsure with how long to leave the tape on. I’m glad I watched this because I’ve had the tape on for about two weeks on my second graft and I literally just took off the tape and I could begin to smell the early stages of rotting. I hope it does well. Thank you for the information!

    Glad I saw this video. I left the black tape for a month, according to another video, and it rotted at the joint. Initially my plumies didnt have sap but it is all white inside. Recutting and trying again. Thanks.

    Warning! This type of graft shrinks at the top and bottom causing gaps at both the top and bottom. This means the graft will take years to heal up and close and reduce growth and easily break in wind. Use an long angle cut for 100% healing. Also, zip ties are worthless. A graft rapped tight with grafting tape is way stronger than zip ties. And if you live in a windy area keep the tape on for at least 30 days and when you take the tape off put pruning wax or wound sealer along the cut joints so the cutting is air tight and does not dry out or have scars. I have had to redo many grafts that dried out and fell apart due to the windy weather drying out the wound and shrinking it. Also, green cuttings/wet cuts seem to glue together much better. And shorter grafts have a better chance of healing and you can get 2-5 grafts out of just one long cutting🤗.

    Good job. But what is the reason of doing it?

  • @Higgy6203
    @Higgy6203 5 лет назад +1

    What happens when you graft? Is it just to add a variety of blooms to the same plant? Or is it to just help the cutting grow fast since it wont have to develop roots?

    • @brendonsplumeria1174
      @brendonsplumeria1174  5 лет назад +2

      Matt Higdon some plumerias die if you try to root them, so you must graft them to a Celadine or a seedling that already has a root system that can survive cold winters. Purples, reds, oranges and rainbows coming from Hawaii and Thailand need and must be grafted or they will die or rot during shipping.

    Is it best to graft in mid winter or spring? We live in Western Australia and have a Mediterranean climate. I enjoyed your presentation. Thank you. Norma

      Norma Linnane, best time to graft is the summer.

    • @terrymd3293
      @terrymd3293 5 лет назад

      In the winter it's dormant so there's not much flow. You want it to be actively growing.

    Mate it's easier to just not use any tape, as the sap is soo rubbery it wants to dry and scab over, if moisture stays in there it can rot, yes, but also the process is slower.

    Do you have to graft using a fresh cutting or does this work with an old cutting too?

    • @brendonsplumeria1174
      @brendonsplumeria1174  5 лет назад

      Amalia Topete fresh cuttings are the only way I graft. Old unhealthy cuttings are unpredictable and can very easily die.

    • @vicenteramirez8987
      @vicenteramirez8987 3 года назад

      The main reason is to try to get another color by grafting both plants, for example if you have a pink flower plumeria and a yellow flower plumeria you maybe able to get pink and yellow in the same flower or sometimes pink and yellow flowers in the same bouquet.

    Hello, I need your advice : have a plumeria tree indoors in large pot (gets plenty of sunshine) for close to 3 years now; stem is abt 1.1/2" - It keeps getting taller, gives few leaves then start falling down - No flowers @ all as of yet ... What can I do please? Thank you in advance ...

      Leonie Gureghian some plumeria varieties just don’t flower much. Maybe it needs new soil and fertilizer.

      To grow multiple varieties on one plant. Have one plant that has a branch of yellow flowers one branch of red flowers one branch of pink etc. Especially if you are limited of space and want many different flowers.
