Good idea but how much propane did you consume? In an emergency, you will not want to burn off all your propane to make a few cups of water. Would like to see this work with firewood.
Would it make more sense for the device to have a sealable lid, so that the water container sits on top of the clean lid? Then you're not potentially contaminating the entire batch with the bottom of the top pot? You'll lose some temp drop, but the steam would be pushed through the tubing, which would likely condense on the way down? Could a robust glass tube with metal support frame for better temp drop in the tubing also be used (although prone to breakage)?
Idk. I want to like it. But the reviews on Amazon were not too encouraging. Issues with sealing and plastic taste. Have these issues been fixed? I really need a desalination device as all the water around me is salty.
If there are kinks in this system it seems it’d be easy to work them out. I will say that I just bought a MegaHome water distiller. It works great. But it was pricey. One thing that I really like about this emergency water distiller is that regardless of taste, or perceived taste, it is just what the verbiage says. It is an emergency water distiller. The small town that I live in on occasion sends out a boil water advisory. I live in an area that has had coal mining for over 100 years. No telling what is in the ground. I told my wife that if we bought a water distiller that I would take on the job of keeping our water supply going. And the same water issues that I have in my town are unfortunately in so many other small towns across America, as so many water treatment plants are antiquated, and there is not enough money to just fix the problem. Also, we did not want to buy bottles of drinking water because of the plastic problem we also have in this country. Also, I’m getting too old to be lifting 5 gallon drinking jugs of water. This is unfortunate in that we are not gonna have much of a choice, but to make our own drinking water if you want to know what you’re drinking and at a reasonable cost.
One question you say put contaminated water on bottom and cool water on top,can top be dirty water or ocean water as well? Also would carbon steel or cast iron pots work?
Yes, top pot can be contaminated water if need be, as long as it us filled carefully as to keep contaminated water from touching the outside bottom of the pot, as the purified water will condense on that surface. Carbon steel pots would work, cast iron would be a poor choice for the top pot, as it has thick walls, and the top pot having thin walls for rapid thermal transfer.
Great video. Another company made a video of this product but your video answers all questions they did not, and your price is a bit lower for the same product. The size of pots needed, and why you are adding salt to the water weren't addressed by the competitor. Thank you
Great job, keep up the good work, you and this company that makes that product is making the planet earth a better place, respect! Thank you for what you do, and thanks for the video.. quick question if i may, do you have any recommendations for a countertop distiller? For home use? That uses 316 stainless steel? as far as best bang for the buck?
I bet you’d sell a lot of units if you made something much smaller in diameter that could be used with metal canteens or water bottles (such as the Grayl).
I would love to have one ! As a Vietnam Navy veteran I know the importance of distilling salt water.

I’ll definitely be ordering one soon 👌🏼
Great video. This is exactly what I need.

Is this setup of 2 pots plus d-stil lite too heavy for a small rocket stove?
I live in Germany how can I buy this ?

I would like to know what kind of stove you are using.
A person could add a hot drain line and cool input line to the upper pot and keep it cooler and improve performance.
