Thank you for showing how to string onions so fully. I vaguely remember my grandfather having onions hanging like this as a child and happened on your video which caught my eye. Your videos are so insightful! So many traditions have been lost over the years, my grandfather being the last of his family which was a very old Spanish-American family in the U.S. who was born in the later part of the 1800's, still held onto many of the traditions of the past. I love seeing how people in England and Europe still use the traditional ways for growing etc.. Just a fantastic video , I look forward to seeing more videos you have a wonderful garden.
Thanks for your lovely comment Lyric, It sounds like your Grandfather enjoyed his gardening. I try as much as possible to garden the way I was taught many years, strictly no chemicals Thanks for watching regards Cliff.

Good man, your a great man with great knowledge and a great garden. One can see your love of gardening coming out through you. I have only got back into gardening myself after retiring a few years ago, and its the most wonderful way of keeping the mind calm and at peace. I combine my gardening with loads of flowering herbs as its wonderful to see the garden full of Bees and Butterflies and Birds. Loved your video. Well done.
So much good information. Loved watching this video! Reminded me of helping my grandpa string red Chile ristas in New Mexico after the red Chile was harvested and dried. Precious memories. 💛 Thank you.
Hi Cliff, I just went back and reviewed this great video from last year again. I'm getting ready to string my red onions from this season, but the necks are still a bit green. Keep up the great work, and thanks to you and your wife for sharing your gardens with us.
you are so Genuine it makes me so happy. Thank you so much for teaching me how to string my onions! I was looking for a good way to store them. I have one string in my kichen above my cutting board and the rest are in my garden shed.

just started a veg plot.your like my grandad I never got to meet.wonderful guy.I could spend a lot of time learing with you.hope my family enjoy all the help you've given me
Hi Jamie, prepare the ground well, plant good seeds or young plants, tend them well and follow the Seasons, you will not fail and you will all enjoy home grown produce regards Cliff.
Some of my young teen memories was joining my neighbor, a country girl, processing a bushel of green beans, breaking off the tips and usually snapping in half or in thirds to prep for canning or freezing. Enjoyable day and early evening on a warm summer day, sipping lemonade as we worked thru the pile of beans. Fond memories. You spoke of roots called pips, but didn’t know why. Watched a lemon recipe being made and the seeds of the lemons were called pips and were removed before start of recipe. Those plants you were separating, the parts you called a pip looked exactly like the lemon seeds or pips.
Hi Julie, what a lovely story. The pips as you call them are the nitrogen nodules on the beans, we leave them in the grown for the next crop. Thanks for watching regards Cliff.
I've watched a few onion stringing videos and yours by far is the best and most intelligent. I will be stringing my onions the way you taught me, with 4 chords. Thank you for sharing your wisdom, God bless - from Tennessee, USA. P.S. you're adorable (I wish you were my grandpa)
Excellent video thank you for sharing fro Croatia. I am a beginner in gardening and am trying to grow everything naturally without chemicals also trying to use our grandparent's way of doing gardening and bring back some of these traditions. Your presentation was excellent! Your are an incredible gardener and teacher. I learn something new in every video. Prepping the soil, planting your seeds/transplants, and attending the fruits, vegetables, and flowers has been very interesting. However, the end result of your all your plans is excellent. Being an artist I love your creative displays of harvesting and displaying everything you work with. Thank you for your lovely presentations "every time"! Australia should be very proud of your abilities even down to your excellent videos. Thank you!

Thanks Diane, we have one more string of onions to use, they do keep well with this method. The garden is a bit empty at the moment but will soon be full of crops. Thanks for watching regards Cliff.
the beans and onions look really good GT video and info as usual I look forward to your videos best to you and the wife also how the roses in water ! 🐦🐝🐔😁👍👍
Hi Graham, many thanks for your comments, the rose cuttings are beginning to swell at the leaf bud under the water. Fingers crossed they will root soon, will show the outcome on video for you. Cliff
Another great video Cliff. I think Diane has a lot of blanching to do lol. It's nice though to have veggies from your garden through the winter. My dad always had a garden plus my great grandad used to work at a stately home. So I guess I inherited some love for gardening. When I lived in California I had 250 orchids.i did everything by the book and no flowers so said that's it, just potted them in orchid rock, threw some fertilizer on and left them, next thing it was like Christmas. Flowers galore. Just a few in the house now. Maureen
Hi Maureen sounds like gardening is in your blood. I think those orchids heard what you were saying and responded.Diane does a lot of blanching and drying but she loves putting vegetables in the freezer for the Winter. Enjoy your garden regards Cliff and Diane.
Hi Duane, we are also getting ready to start the new season weather permitting. Always a exciting time setting new seeds. Thanks for watching regards Cliff.
Thank you for your video on stringing Onions, I have always wanted to know how to do that... We are going to grow our first lot of Onions from seed, we are not sure how they will go here in Queensland Australia but we are looking forward to giving it a go and hopefully one day stringing some of our own home grown Onions. Thanks again for your video and we look forward to watching many more.

Hi Anja H thanks for your kind comments and subscribing. It wont be long before we are all gardening again, time to get all the odd jobs done regards Cliff.
Just found your videos and subscribed. Love the onions and beans, Now I know how to tie off the onions too. I have to chuckle because Lily of the Valley is such an invasive plant. I made the mistake of splitting them a few years ago and now I am pulling them out in areas I do not want them in. Plant in pots like you have, if put in the ground, watch very closely every year. Thanks for the good information. Steve
Hi Steve, thanks for comments and subscribing, the lily of the valley were given to me from my daughter, I planted them in pots to try and keep them under control. Thanks for watching regards Cliff.

Hi John, many thanks for watching and subscribing.Do have a go this year, as they store very well. Soon we will be planting this Seasons. Nice to hear from Australia regards Cliff.
thanks Cliff it's funny of all the sites i have visited to learn things you are the only one who responded back n yes i used to do that with my grandma and she taught me all about canning and freezing n now that my hubby passed away in 2016 day after new years day i have not been able to cook for just one but i am going to do a lot of big freezer cooking and i am making my garden 2x bigger to harvest more as it's only my income now and things are really tight money wise so the puppies aren't getting the leftovers except what is left on my plate as much as they did but they still get their puppy treats n fresh veggies when i am cutting them up which they all love thanks again
Hi Jackie sorry to hear about your hubby, and well done for starting up your vegetable growing. It will give you fresh air and nothing tastes as good as homegrown. A pat for the puppies take care enjoy your growing regards Cliff.
Good advice on the veg. We have wild bunnies, so we're figuring this next year those that survive the coyotes and wild cats, the rabbits don't climb well, they do burrow, to keep the critters from having lunch on your harvest, grow vines up on trellis and in large pots. We'll get a set up going to use cattle panels as hoops so the vines grow up and over.
I really enjoyed your video and demonstration of stringing the onions. You're voice is so soothing and was such a delight. thank you much! I subscribed blessings everyone!
Wow stringing onions it’s very good ideas. Thank you so much

Hi Jackie your Grandmas way of storing onions is the best way. Easy to inspect and cut off. Happy gardening regards Cliff
thanks Cliff it's funny of all the sites i have visited to learn things you are the only one who responded back n yes i used to do that with my grandma and she taught me all about canning and freezing n now that my hubby passed away in 2016 day after new years day i have not been able to cook for just one but i am going to do a lot of big freezer cooking and i am making my garden 2x bigger to harvest more as it's only my income now and things are really tight money wise so the puppies aren't getting the leftovers except what is left on my plate as much as they did but they still get their puppy treats n fresh veggies when i am cutting them up which they all love thanks again
Hi Jackie sorry to hear about your hubby, and well done for starting up your vegetable growing. It will give you fresh air and nothing tastes as good as homegrown. A pat for the puppies take care enjoy your growing regards Cliff.

Hi inarainyplace, many thanks for comments on roping onions, it's a very old way but easy to keep in check. thanks for subscribing regards Cliff
Sounds great Melinaz, that's the way to cope with the wildlife, they are a nuisance regards Cliff.
