I'll admit I found the complete series in discount DVD bin for less than $5. I expected much more than what I watched especially since it claims to have won a Golden Globe. Drones on and on wallowing in misery about her son, the ranch, cutting herself, etc. It's not like they're at some remote outpost. It's freaking Lawn-guy-land! It's getting more pathetic every passing section and now hoping it will pick up. Otherwise I want my $2 refunded! 😜
I just finished watching this show. I had no idea about its storyline or anything. I never even heard its name before. Just saw the name on amazon prime and started watching. First episode was interesting so i continued watching it. Watched 2 or 3 episodes per day. I think this is the best series I've ever watched in my life. It really makes you think what life is about. Whatever you do have so many consequences and so many people get affected by it. Last finale episode was the best one. 👌

I swear I've had no sleep since starting this series. It's absolutely addictive and so many twists and turns. I never know what to expect. I love Cole and always felt bad for him. And well Noah pisses me off in season 4 and 5 for always being in everyone's business 🙄 I hated how he just kept trying to weasel into Viks house after. His character shows a man that sadly can't be alone without a woman in it. But seriously can't believe how much I love this series. Wish there was more. I only have 5 more episodes left than I'm done 😪😪😪
This show is intriguing in large part to the shifting narratives. The characters are often recounting to the best of their abilities- so there are significant discrepancies in their stories or sometimes subtle as well. I have jury duty coming up and after living with a criminal attorney, a cop/detective and dating another criminal attorney, one realizes the fragility of the human memory sometimes coupled with shifting economies of truth, underlying unexamined bias- well, you have to wonder if the whole process isn't fabulously flawed. Scary. I hope I will be a good juror. :)
Speaking of Cole, i noticed that the most important moments for the character showed in this extended promo are the ones where he threatens Noah and especially the ones where he goes insane, generally speaking. If "the past is prologue", well, i wonder what writers have in mind for the character. I am intrigued!
A+ for all the actors. Loved the first few episodes. I felt so let down as we progress into the lives of the children. Would have liked a happier ending.

That is the whole point. To inspire a personal connection, establish a line of emotional connection to whomever character you most resonate with. Brilliant writing.
I hate cheaters too but this show runs much deeper than that. The writing is so good that you see them as humans. I never felt their infidelity was ok but each character in this show is so grey and layered and broken. You at least understand what led to their destructive choices and that's part of the beauty of the storytelling.

Great show but what bothered me was Noah act like didn't love Allison. Smh he did LOVE her. Helen had to remind him that he did at the end. If wasn't for Allison wanting a divorce because of her child. They would've still been married, he didn't want a divorce. Also he married her, and stayed with her when she was carrying her ex husband's child. So definitely he loved her
I saw the first 4 series in 2018, an intriguing story with A1+ actors. At first, I realized that it was not a normal movie but about different periods but also about the characters, and that’s what makes it so special. I really enjoyed the 4 seasons via Netflix, unfortunately the last season 5 did not come to the Netherlands anymore, until I finally found the last season via Prime on the internet in 2023, after 5 years. This series has never left my mind for 5 years, always searched for and finally found. I’m not a series watcher, Vikings is one of the few series that are beautiful but almost 90 episodes is really overdone. The Affaire describes a “character-driven” series and emphasizes the development and depth of the characters, influenced by their emotions and choices, and especially the last episode (finale) makes human relationships insightful. This is the best movie/series I have ever seen, CHAPEAU!!
Their affair both made sense and didn't make sense. It made MORE sense for Alison because she wanted to feel something not connected to her lost son Gabriel. Noah on the other hand...seems like he just got married too young, and got "saddled" with a big family, overbearing in-laws and a life of half-realized ambitions. Still...they dynamited their own lives entirely for what? Also, Ruth Wilson's alternate career plans really messed up what I was hoping would be a deeply moving resolution for ALL the principals. Cole just disappeared in the final season.

I really like the Affair as a show and all the good writing in it but at some point, around the 3rd. season I now watching, I got somehow bored at some events in the show. In particular that everyone in that story line is not able to move on just a little bit. Everyone is continuously falling for her/his former partner, no one is mature enough to move on, even after catastrophic events the partner put them through. This is just bullshit and although it can happen in real life I do not believe it happens to this extent. It's bullshit and I consider this bad writing because it happens over and over again. I am getting sick of it. Sadly, because I do like the show but this has to stop eventually.
My guess is that Alison had this vulnerability to her that she simultaneously wore on the outside and yet kept hidden on the inside. What I mean is Alison seems so fragile and melancholy provoking a certain kind of Prince Charming response in some men (certainly Cole & Noah) who feel a sense of validation in themselves in coming to her rescue. The part she keeps tucked away is a kind of darkness. Alison is clearly suicidal and she (at least in Season 1) exhibits self-harm behaviors like cutting. Alison is racked with guilt over the death of her son Gabriel, but her darkness began so much earlier than that. I believe Alison sensed her mother's (Athena) rejection of her. We learn in the final season that indeed Alison represents to Athena something she wished she could forget and purge from her life. Perhaps Alison sensed this and so began a journey of inner self-loathing which manifested in this self-destructiveness we see exhibited in her dynamiting her marriage with Cole. On the surface, she took up with Noah because for one fleeting moment, she was able to do for Noah, what she failed to do for Cole...save the life of his child. Noah was drawn to Alison's darkness because he too carried immense guilt (which we begin to understand in Season 4 with regard to his mother's terminal illness and the circumstances of her ultimate passing including Noah's own conflict regarding his desire to embark on his own journey of life). So in some ways, saving Alison, if he could accomplish that, would have been for Noah a way to make up for what he sensed was his failure regarding caring for his mother in her final days. I would add that Noah accepting his "fate" (at the end of Season 3) is in effect his atonement for his perceived failures/shortcomings (towards Helen, Alison, his mother, his children). When we see Noah Seasons 4 & 5, while he's still a gravely flawed man, he has come to terms with some of his "failures" and has at least begun processing his self-imposed "purgatory" of sorts. The conclusion in Season 5 offers some sense that Noah has reconciled with himself as much as he has healed his relationships with Whitney and Helen. The finale even seems to offer Noah a chance for him to offer healing if not to Alison at least to Alison's daughter.
I think it got worse as it went on. It is like they were just going in the same loops. Then the final season seemed more like they had new writers. Or the writers knew it was the end and they just wanted to push agendas over story. The future parts would have been better to just do as a final episode at the end separate from the others.
I have seen all 5 Season 4 times now and can't stop myself again. People may look for what Physical projection of Nudity that is shown, but every time i have seen all seasons i realised and understood something more than than before. Honest opinion Season 4 about Paris was all Nonsense i felt . The only season worth watching is Season 1 , 2 , 3 and 5th towards the end ... Basically wherever Noah , Alison , Helen , Vik and Cole were there those were Truly and Deeply moving and mentally sensational. Is it just me ?

Jesus, trailers show everything now. Not only this, but the trailer makes me not want to watch it. Luckily I have seen it before watching this, but someone who hasn’t might be turned off by this horrible trailer. I will say, seasons 1-3 were phenomenal. It’s a different type of show for sure in a positive way. The last few seasons after 3 were horrible though. Guess the writers changed or something, can’t believe such a 5star show flopped midway through 😢

I really like the Affair as a show and all the good writing in it but at some point, around the 3rd. season I now watching, I got somehow bored at some events in the show. In particular that everyone in that story line is not able to move on just a little bit. Everyone is continuously falling for her/his former partner, no one is mature enough to move on, even after catastrophic events the partner put them through. This is just bullshit and although it can happen in real life I do not believe it happens to this extent. It's bullshit and I consider this bad writing because it happens over and over again. I am getting sick of it. Sadly, because I do like the show but this has to stop eventually.

I really don’t know what anyone saw in Allison.
My guess is that Alison had this vulnerability to her that she simultaneously wore on the outside and yet kept hidden on the inside. What I mean is Alison seems so fragile and melancholy provoking a certain kind of Prince Charming response in some men (certainly Cole & Noah) who feel a sense of validation in themselves in coming to her rescue. The part she keeps tucked away is a kind of darkness. Alison is clearly suicidal and she (at least in Season 1) exhibits self-harm behaviors like cutting. Alison is racked with guilt over the death of her son Gabriel, but her darkness began so much earlier than that. I believe Alison sensed her mother's (Athena) rejection of her. We learn in the final season that indeed Alison represents to Athena something she wished she could forget and purge from her life. Perhaps Alison sensed this and so began a journey of inner self-loathing which manifested in this self-destructiveness we see exhibited in her dynamiting her marriage with Cole. On the surface, she took up with Noah because for one fleeting moment, she was able to do for Noah, what she failed to do for Cole...save the life of his child. Noah was drawn to Alison's darkness because he too carried immense guilt (which we begin to understand in Season 4 with regard to his mother's terminal illness and the circumstances of her ultimate passing including Noah's own conflict regarding his desire to embark on his own journey of life). So in some ways, saving Alison, if he could accomplish that, would have been for Noah a way to make up for what he sensed was his failure regarding caring for his mother in her final days.
I would add that Noah accepting his "fate" (at the end of Season 3) is in effect his atonement for his perceived failures/shortcomings (towards Helen, Alison, his mother, his children). When we see Noah Seasons 4 & 5, while he's still a gravely flawed man, he has come to terms with some of his "failures" and has at least begun processing his self-imposed "purgatory" of sorts. The conclusion in Season 5 offers some sense that Noah has reconciled with himself as much as he has healed his relationships with Whitney and Helen. The finale even seems to offer Noah a chance for him to offer healing if not to Alison at least to Alison's daughter.
Sad isn’t it, Lilly has a habit of having flings with married men, hard on their families.
I think it got worse as it went on. It is like they were just going in the same loops. Then the final season seemed more like they had new writers. Or the writers knew it was the end and they just wanted to push agendas over story. The future parts would have been better to just do as a final episode at the end separate from the others.

I have seen all 5 Season 4 times now and can't stop myself again. People may look for what Physical projection of Nudity that is shown, but every time i have seen all seasons i realised and understood something more than than before.
Honest opinion Season 4 about Paris was all Nonsense i felt . The only season worth watching is Season 1 , 2 , 3 and 5th towards the end ... Basically wherever Noah , Alison , Helen , Vik and Cole were there those were Truly and Deeply moving and mentally sensational.

Non mi è piaciuta questa serie televisiva, troppo sentimentale tra tradimenti, ricongiungimenti, e troppo poco giallo, tra l' altro neanche la parte gialla è chissà che cosa.
Jesus, trailers show everything now. Not only this, but the trailer makes me not want to watch it. Luckily I have seen it before watching this, but someone who hasn’t might be turned off by this horrible trailer.
I will say, seasons 1-3 were phenomenal. It’s a different type of show for sure in a positive way. The last few seasons after 3 were horrible though. Guess the writers changed or something, can’t believe such a 5star show flopped midway through 😢
