you could place alot of killer songs in the story line (if you go away fro the real story). 1. somebody told me. this could be the protagonist finding out jenny had cheated on him, leading to a break up 2. bourbon on the shelf. this is the breackup 3 mr brightside. the protagonist sees jennifer with another man and feels a deep hatred to her 4 where is she. the protagonist hears about how a 14 year old was killed by her ex and starts to plot a plan to do the same to jennifer. (this could be swaped out with 3 as mr brightside could happen directly before the next one) 5 midnight show. the murder of jenny happens 6 jenny was a friend of mine. the questioning of the protagonist and eventualy the conviction 7 all the things ive done. the protagonist recapping over the murder (there are probably more but this is my view
My interpretation is 1 mr brightside 2 somebody told me 3 all these things that I’ve done 4 midnight show and 5 jenny was a friend of mine because in midnight show she’s the who’s murdered by her ex boyfriend and jenny was a friend of mine she was the one who strangled by her boyfriend
My interpretation is that “Leave the Bourbon on the Shelf” and “Midnight Show” are happening at sort of the same time. The protagonist is drinking after the breakup and sees Jennifer (might be a hooker now to tie into Mr. Brightside) getting picked up. (either a John he doesn’t like or a random guy and it’s the last straw) The guy and Jennifer leave and he follows them to where they go to bone. He’s in his car watching her, drinking and screaming. (we were such a good thing. The song may be from the perspective from the random guy also)The guy finishes up and kicks her out of the car, which is when the protagonist is doing a mix of yelling at her and trying to get back with her. She starts yelling for help so he grabs her and eventually strangles her.
Interesting, but I always felt it made more sense as a series of three separate events. First the singer confronts Jennifer about seeing her with another man. She denies cheating, they fight, and she leaves, possibly breaking up with him. He drowns his sorrows in a whole bottle of bourbon while thinking about what happened. Then the singer apologizes to Jennifer and pretends to patch things up. He drives her to a secluded spot out in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night and lays a blanket out, supposedly for a romantic evening. He strangles her and dumps the body. Finally, the singer is interrogated by the police. He alternates between getting upset and gloating that they've got nothing on him while rethinking his steps and trying to figure out if he left anything incriminating behind.
A year late but personally I like to think that Midnight show came first, then Jenny was a friend of mine, and finally leave the bourbon on the Shelf as him regretting his actions and missing her. Possibly drinking himself to death as he's not satisficed until he holds her again.
Its about an actual murder 🙃 the preppy killer I believe happened in the 80's. Jenny was A real person who waa raped and killed by her friend, hence the lyrics "there ain't no motive for this crime jenny was a friend of mine" its what the killer said 'I didnt do anything she was a friend of mine' up until he plead guilty.
@@ruewolfe Whoa, that puts darker spin on the songs. So, it’s more of an exploration of obsession without overtly telling you the “protagonist” is delusional murderer? Also, thank you for elaborating more on the case than “it’s probably about the prep (or preppy killer) killer.”
@@CrungleFunk I couldn't remember If it was prep or preppy 😅 but yeah the songs explains the story to a point which is really sad when you realize its based on a true story. Also no need for thanks for explaining not everyone knows what you're talking about it takes a minute 😊
It's the first one, it gives context into the killer seeing the girl she likes with another man and him drinking trying to cope, but his need to "hold her tight" leads to Midnight Show, the actual murder

They call it the murder trilogy but honestly always thought most if not all of Hot Fuss was a continuation of it.
i know, if you think about it, all the songs, including Mr. Brightside could add to the story of The Murder Trilogy

"Human" could be immediately after he kills her, he's almost in a trancelike state, it's sinking in that she's dead.
The Bands name isnt reffering to the members, Its what they sing about. A lot of their songs are about killers, look up " where is she "
They 'borrowed' the name from a fictitious band in a New Order music video 😊
I always thought Midnight show was him confessing to someone that he did kill jenny after he got away with it?
I love how it starts..
We need a 4th song!!
Look up "where is she"
Look up "where is she by the killers"
all these things has been followed up both times this trilogy was preformed in full on tour, take that as an unofficial sequel if you want

What role does leave the bourbon on the shelf have in this triology?

You know, Mr. Brightside could be part of this story. It fits.
And since Mr brightside is connected to Miss atomic bomb...
Yalz yes! I’m sure there are other songs that probably fit in the story than these 3.
