Hey cam... just wanted to thank you... I've been in this business for 17 years now and over the last couple years had lost my passion for the biz... watching your vids has helped reignite my passion again...
I'm working in my basement. Well huge rain storm, my laptop was on my desk not far from the window. The water came in and waterfalls right on to my laptop. That set me back a few weeks
Whomever it was that said not to base the gold or shimmer, I agree. Never do, comes out opaque on it's one with a print flash print. Uhmmm worst would be... well, many... When I was still at home printing, was watching the kiddos and trying to print. Kids fell asleep, tried printing. Heard the baby crying and went inside. Smoke started pouring in through the door... forgot the flash over the pallet. Pallet was on fire and just about burned down the house. Both kids were crying, tried calming them, and then a client showed up ready to put money down on an order of 500 shirts... I couldn't bare to open the door with the the situation at hand. Lost client, just about burn the house down, called up my ex, and she told me I was crazy... because I was overwhelmed... she came and got the kids and left... that was the end of our marriage... That was May of 2016 a couple months after my daughter was born. Got locked out that night and so I moved to the other side of town and lost more than 50% of my clients because of location and it took me weeks to get set back up. Ahh, good ol life. LOL
Mikey Designs & Silk Screen damn, Matt. That’s rough! I’m glad to see you made it through. Just started watching your channel for the artwork tutorials and they’re amazing. Keep up the great work.
One of the first jobs I ever did I misspelled the name of my hometown. The customer approved the artwork and I printed around 50 shirts and noticed on the last shirt. Luckily it was just swapping out two letters and the font was a heavy distressed font so I shot it out with the spot gun, over printed each shirt and nobody ever knew until now... DySleXia
Hey man! Love the videos! Been watching for a couple years now. I knew how to screen print a little before I saw your videos. But because of your videos I was motivated to apply for some screen printing jobs. I got one a little over a year ago and it has been great! now I'm setting up an ACTUAL home shop so I can print stuff for my own customers and start my own business. Super stoked! Thanks for making the videos man. They really made a huge impact in my life! I never would've found my true love for screen printing without you! Keep it up! Peace!
I just did a job with that gold ink for one of y fraternity clients last week, no underbase, and that gold is beautiful! Already had 2 other clients contact me about getting some of that into their designs! Gotta love Total Ink!
PRINT LIFE...!! I had a recent job where a my platen screws came loose and one station was out of registration because it was shifting - it took a few rotations to figure out what the heck was going on after it was discovered (checking all the usual stuff on that station first) - just one of many "challenges" on the fly.
Awesome video Cam. I can't wait until I am able to get a hold of a press like that. Would make my life easier when registering. Tired of my current press, no off contact setting, and no micro. But oh well, with time, I'll Build Up to a shop like yours. Greetings from Mexico amigo.
You will in no time just get your website built on wordpress and do the google best practices steps to get indexed on local search and you will be snatching up local jobs in no time.
I'm just discovering this channel now, and i don't know if you or anyone would see this. But my biggest problem in screen printing. I work in a factory, where we build custom sheet metal cases in a made to order set up. I could be printing onto 1 piece, or 100 pieces with epoxy ink. I had an order of 20 pieces with a 3 color set up. one color going directly over top of the other and had to be lined up perfectly. We need to build a new jig for each and every job. I made the mistake of building the jig and to butt the pieces against a folded part of the metal. I was new and failed to realize that the folds are not straight because of how the press brake works. There is a tolerance of a few thou that it could be off. So after printing the first setup, baking it, then the second and baking, the 3rd set up, the first two pieces were bang on. Then I realized the mistake after the next few all screwed up on me and were misaligned. I just stopped and aborted the job at that point and realized what went wrong. After that, always building my jigs to rest against laser cut edges only.
Hey Cam - thanks for posting another great vlog... my worst experience was trying to setup a 3 color registration without micros. the artwork had dozens of small areas butted up against each other. It took days on end trying and quitting and trying again and throwing things around the shop in frustration. Sorry about the camera. that sucks
@@ThePrintLife my first was a 4x1 as well... but this was on my 6x6 without true micros. I can move the screen on X and Y (manual micros) but it was a nightmare on that job.
I don’t know if anyone else has asked this question but have you done a product review of the Anatol press you have I’m looking for a knew press and they are on my list.
also can use matsui 301 metal binder without underbase, though I usually need 2 coats when printing on dark shirts, so it'd be slower that what you did
Great videos. I'm a new subscriber and wonder if you'd do a series on your video production. Your videos are professional looking and I'd like to start producing with at least a beginner level quality. Thanks. My worst shop experience was producing a couple hundred shirts only to realize that the dryer was too hot and was discoloring the shirts. They were safety green and it was hard to see inside the shop but in the natural it was evident. Decided to use the shirts for teens and adult screenprinting class.
What is the white sheet you put on your panel when registratring ? What's the use of it and how do you place it ? It seems like you don't even "calibrate" it on the panel, just randomly put it on and tape it down. Btw, keep up the good work and content, I love it!
my worst one ever is when I did 48 pieces three colors and I forgot to turn the heater on I turn the conveyor on but not the heater all 48 pieces were messed up LOL one more I made some shirt for a hospice and I misspelled hospice instead of a P I spelled it hosTice the costumer return the shirt and did not reorder they were so mad!!! LOL
Hmmm bad day.. when one of my shirts got caught inside the conveyor and shit caught on fire 🔥 ! Lol. Hey man great video and grab me all of the hotwheels at that dollar general 😉
Great video! Have you ever had the top layer come off of the the comet white under base after a wash test? This happened to me once and I couldn’t figure out why, I cured the crap out of it. It cost me like $300 cause I had to re-print the entire job. That was the worst experience I had.
Hey Cam - who makes that crappy little conveyor drier you pulled out? I need a stupidly cheap and small conveyor that I can stash away to help get my shop rolling and that POS may be PERFECT!
hey Cam greetings from Lombok Indonesia!!! I just started screen printing a few months ago, love your vids btw. Do you prefer the square shaped squeegee or the v shaped one (I'm using the v shaped one)? also, I'm currently struggling trying to flood my screen, either the ink doesn't fully cover the design or it bleeds through the design, the weather is crazy hot & humid here so I think learning how to flood properly is vital.Any tips? oh and it'd be pretty awesome if you can tell us what mesh your using in your future videos.
awesome video Cam! I feel like a drug addict on withdraws when I hear your intro it all goes away LOL I know is weird I think I got used to the music on your intro LOL
Good thing for the backup dryer. At least you did not have to flash cure all the shirts. Still to new to screen print to have bad things happen on that end. I was cutting 10 vinyl transfers and forgot to mirror the images. Wasted several yards of material. Yea that sucked bad.
Wouldn't it be easier to just place the under base transparency on the platen and register to that? That's how we do it and registration is usually pretty quick. We did a 2 front and back and I put both colors to 6" down from the frame and for some reason the orange color was always higher. I ended up burning 4 screens before it worked out since it was almost about 1.5" higher and I still don't know why...lol
Not easier, but exactly the same amount of easy, The sheet i have is a product you can buy, but easily make if you wanted to. and for sure not having level off contact has messed up my ability to register any screens ever. gotta be level
@@ThePrintLife I remember a few months back where I had to register 2 colors and I couldn't get it to work and just went home from frustration and came back in the morning and registered it in 5 min...LOL
My bad day printing was when I was printing shirts on the automatic press. So I'll load the shirts on the pallet, they'll print and so on. Turns out the shirts I loaded on weren't even on both sides so the design printed on it would be on left side of the shirt or right side. I messed up when I was loading those shirts. I was trying to be fast than being right about it.
Well, my biggest f#ck up recently was I printed on right design on the wrong color of shirt lol. Sent my buddy a pic of the final product, he replays back.... looks good, but wrong color! LOL, good thing it was for a buddy and there was only around 12 of them. But still felt like a damn tool. Anyways, good stuff as always Cam! Cheers, SKD
ugh. the registration dance. Hate it so much. Doesn't help that I'm using a Workhorse Odyssey and I can't get it to hold registration for even a single color anymore. Going to take the whole thing apart and re-lube and re-tighten everything as well as releveling my platen arms to see if that will help. I honestly think it's the springs causing the issue though. Quick question. At some point I'm going to be getting a new press.. Do you think it would be better to go with Anatol's lowest priced press with side clamps or go with the M&R Kruzer that has side clamps. M&R Kruzer doesn't have tilt adjustment as they say it's necessary with side clamps. Just wondering if you have any opinion on them. How do you like your Anatol so far? Thx in advance!!

I've had a lot of trouble with Dye Migration on Poly and Blended shirts. I used Immense White Oasis by Wilflex with UB and still came out terrible. I even tried an additive "warp drive" and still terrible results. Can I get some Cam Wisdom?
the lines on the reg board seem to be 1pt in illustrator, then I made my reg marks 2pts so I can see a white line around the edges, make set up freakishly simple. Dont buy the setup mat though you can make one on your printer. actually I think some one recreated something similar on the print life facebook group.
So we have 4 jobs lined up for the day and the first job was printing on a windbreaker which was no biggie because we're familiar with printing on 100% nylon windbreakers. We do it all the time. If you're familiar with this, then you must know that we use an additive to make sure the plastisol ink bonds and solidifies on the 100% nylon material. So we completed all 4 jobs, all of them were single-color jobs that use white ink which was an easy day for the shop A week later after our customers picked up their orders 3 of them complained that the prints are cracking and flaking off. Then it dawned on us that we used the same white ink that we used for the windbreakers on the rest of the jobs. (yes, the white ink with the hardener) We apologized to all our customers and of course, we told them that it was our mistake and we won't run away from them or deny our mistakes. Ended up replacing and reprinting all 3 jobs (Approx 400pcs). Thank god most of them are just shirts and not hoodies. All 3 customers are still repeating customers of ours so there ya go!
Hey Cam, I just found your Channel about a week ago. So this comment is probably a little bit dated, but there might be some information I have that'll be useful. Temperature controllers are anything but Plug and Play. If you think your temperature controller is causing your problems it can be almost Plug and Play if you can get the same model as what you have and then copy the setup menu from your old controller to your new controller. This means going through all of the settings and copying them over to the new controller. That said, in a previous life I worked at an aerospace company where one of my jobs was setting up and adjusting temperature controllers on various types of ovens in temperature chambers. What I know about temperature controllers and the systems they control would probably fill a small book. If you ever have problems or would like to talk about temperature controllers feel free to message me.
Rikki Clarke haha were was this comment months ago. I need up throwing in the towel and getting a new dryer, but the info in this comment will surely help someone else, thank you for the useful info. You are the best
@@ThePrintLife if you like I can provide you with more information on troubleshooting an oven, it would be enough information that you could probably fill a whole episode.
Two worst days in the shop: 1. Not realizing I ruined the first 20 masks I printed when they first became popular BECAUSE OF A DAMN SEAM ON THE INSIDE that was an easy fix 🤦🏻♂️😖😭 as you can tell this still hurts. 2. 40ish year old reliable conveyor dryer finally going out and not having a backup dryer (just a flash dryer and heat press) with a 60 shirt rush order due the next day at lunch time. That was a long, long night.
I was really into this channel and the FB group but for some reason I got booted from the group, and for what reason, I’m not sure? but I will go elsewhere now
I've never seen a flash dryer that turns off automatically and starts up when I shirt is underneath. I know that sounds really stupid, but is there a term for that type of flash?
There is a comment from someone else asking the same thing lol cam said: "Still working just not on the days I film. Im basically print one day out of the week specifically for this channel."
I locked him in the dark room and told him he cant come out until it is organized to perfection, 2 weeks later he is still locked In there. Will he ever get out? Tune in next week to find out.
There is a few comments from someone else asking the same thing lol cam said in another post here: "Still working just not on the days I film. Im basically print one day out of the week specifically for this channel."
Using a cheap Chinese press that slips out of registration so pretty much every job I get at least 2 or 3 miss prints. DONT BUY A CHINESE PRESS!!! Worst day had to be setting the flash dryer too low and scorching a bunch of white tees.
Sorted the whole thing out today. Share you worst shop experience in the comments, if you got the guts to look like a huge failure to your peers.
Check out your temperatuer probe could be sending wrong signal to controller happens to my heat treating oven some times.

How thin are you reg lines on screen? And is that reg sheet available thru you? Is that a vastex mini?
the lines on the reg board seem to be 1pt in illustrator, then I made my reg marks 2pts so I can see a white line around the edges, make set up freakishly simple.
So we completed all 4 jobs, all of them were single-color jobs that use white ink which was an easy day for the shop
A week later after our customers picked up their orders 3 of them complained that the prints are cracking and flaking off. Then it dawned on us that we used the same white ink that we used for the windbreakers on the rest of the jobs. (yes, the white ink with the hardener)
We apologized to all our customers and of course, we told them that it was our mistake and we won't run away from them or deny our mistakes.
Is there a cheaper version of your flash dryer that turns on and off or some sort of switch to make any flash dryer turn on and off just starting out.
there is, I made a video on it, check cheap Chinese dryer
Any tips on preping the silk on screen?
"Gotta go get some energy drinks."
Confirmed printer.
I could write a novel on bad episodes in and around my shop lol
HAHA thats what I'm saying!
Cam my conveyor is one temp... i adjust shirt temp by adjusting speed of the belt. Can you do that on yours?
If the temp would stay constant I could. But it wont hold even at a high temp.
hey Cam, what lens do you use for your Canon M50?
Its's the Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 best as far as I know it's the best budget full frame lens you can get.
Where do you get the micro mat from?
Rapidreg but it's to expensive I cant in good conscious endorse it you can make one with your film printer,
Can u make me one and send to email?
Two worst days in the shop:
Where do you get that sheet to register the screen I def need that
Hi cam what platten size you use? Thank you
Standard M&R I think its 16x22 might be 16x20 cant remember of the top of my head, I don't have the ability to commit numbers to memory.
Thank you cam you gave me alot of learnings keep it going
Do you use photoshop for your designs?
I’m the one who told you it doesn’t need a underbase lol
what application you used?..
Where's Jesse?
There is a comment from someone else asking the same thing lol cam said:
"Still working just not on the days I film. Im basically print one day out of the week specifically for this channel."
I locked him in the dark room and told him he cant come out until it is organized to perfection, 2 weeks later he is still locked In there. Will he ever get out? Tune in next week to find out.

"Still working just not on the days I film. Im basically print one day out of the week specifically for this channel."
What is the name of the intro instruments?
I'm not sure I got it of epidemic sounds.
Can you send the send us the file u use to register?
9:53 the Tigerbelly ?
so thourough
Using a cheap Chinese press that slips out of registration so pretty much every job I get at least 2 or 3 miss prints. DONT BUY A CHINESE PRESS!!!
Worst day had to be setting the flash dryer too low and scorching a bunch of white tees.
Yea those chinese presses seem rough to work with. Allot of manual presses knock out of registration,
All my screens were coated badly that they had bubbles on em randing em useless 😔
Yup yup, coating screen is an art, you get better the more you do it, Try 50 micron capilary film its way easier to apply.
@@ThePrintLife thank you I used your link for the 6 pack and the Uv light they coming in on the 26th
Where’s Jesse?
