I have borrowed a 6 string bass for several months and now don't know if I want to switch back to a my good-old 4 string one. The versatility. The ability to play chords that actually don't sound like shit. I'm definitely going to buy me a 6th string bass once I have a budget.
He is absolutely right, but I still cannot get into a five-string. Ah, as with everything else, practice. I think the b string is floppy, so I don't like the feel, and I get disoriented, but with practice, hurdles are overcome.

For a small chunk of reasons. I've used a 5 string myself. It's not as intimidating as it appears. Ya just gotta give yourself the push to go try one out. They're kinda bussin' ngl. First, there's more depth with those extra 5 notes. So your C, C#, D, and Eb don't sound as shallow. Mind you, they're still workable on a 4 string, but the added beef to those notes is appreciated because they lack just that wee bit of beef to make em reliable on a 4 string. Second, the thickness of the low B makes it ironically easier to fret in some ways, because it big wiggly boi. Third, you can apply your universal fingering patterns to notes you wouldn't be able to do that for on a 4 string. On a 4 string, you can't do universal fingering patterns for E or F, for example. So there's more versatility with the 5 string. Fourth, the added depth gives you more approach options for a target note depending on where it is. For example, I play in church now, and we tend to play things in Ab, and we do walking bass lines from the low 3rd to the octave. A 5 string lets me do that pretty easily. So there are quite a bit of ways in which 5 string makes things easier. I don't think 5 strings are better that 4 strings per se, and I think they're equal with each other. But both have different strengths and weaknesses. You just gotta feel em out until you find one that works for ya. Hope this helps.
You want to know why I hate five-string bass guitars it's because they need to learn how to play a 4-string first before they get a five-string I've seen with 5422 strings in the guy knows g&d maybe

I’m planning on getting one of them soon, I can’t wait to jam on a 5 string. ✌️😌
