A simple tip for anyone struggling with OOA; _construct a second level._ Go up about 10 or so blocks and lay down a set of platforms that spans the length of your arena. When you begin the event, use either the Flameburst or Ballista weapons, and alternate between putting them on the ground and on the platforms on each side of the crystal. Most of the time I see people failing this event, it's because of the dang flying enemies, who always manage to slip past turrets on the ground and then dive bomb the crystal and the player. Putting those same turrets a little higher makes a world of difference; suddenly, the flyers are barely able to make headway towards the crystal, as the higher turrets can now hit them easily, with the damage and knockback being enough to kill them before they even come onscreen, leaving the player able to easily handle the waves on the ground. The platforms also make it much easier to find and focus the Ogre and Dark Mage enemies when they appear.
you should also place loads of boulder statues on both sides to completely eliminate the swarms of grounded enemies. with 20 or so boulder statues on each side, the only enemies that need weapons to kill are drakins and ogres.

My strat is to lay explosive traps directly under the portal. Four of them deal enough to oneshot every flier, and even if you get a low enough damage roll, one more next to the crystal will finish any flier that sneaks by. Additionally you can trap spam one side for the first two tiers, and focus your significantly higher dps on the side the boss will spawn on.
Love all the appreciation the Old Ones Army this channel is sending, a lot of the weapons and armor are really under rated (although some could really use a buff)

@@fragmentedrose7401 in pretty sure the damage boosts do stack but the sentry slots don't for some reason? It might be a bug or it might just be like that sense having like 5 or 6 sentries in pre hm would be pretty busted

ever since I discovered armor mixing, I began to think more about the OOA since the armor you buy with defender's medals can do extremely well with armor mixing. I'll definitely consider this weapon if I ever decide to do a ranger playthrough.
Phantom Phoenix is basically just a shotbow with a Hellwing bow attached that’s post-1 mech and is honestly your best option up until you can get smth like the stake launcher to farm the later bosses with
The problem with this bow is that it’s just way easier to get the Daedalus storm bow compared to it. The Daedalus stormbow may have less DPS, but it does enough to kill the mech bosses efficiently. That’s all that’s really needed of a bow during this stage.

One thing you didn't mention is the fact that phoenix explodes when hits solid objects. On pair with chlorophyte arrows it makes this bow one of the best ranged weapons for close space, like hardmode jungle, post-Plantera Dungeon and Jungle Temple
Fr, I was able to literally stand still for the entire phase 2 of the Brain of Cthulhu fight using it because it literally stunlocked it in place (Master Mode btw)
I wonder if the bow is supposed to be a reference to Angelg's attack called Phantom Phoenix from the Super Robot Wars series? Not only the attack is launched from a bow but the projectile is also a flaming phoenix.
I remember a bug I had while using the phantom pheonix. For some reason I had a firerate bug that catapulted the firerate of all bows/guns to oblivion, making the pheonixes spawn much more frequently than they should, going to an insane 20kdps. I'd surely say that that interaction will always leave the bow in my memory
TBH there's plenty better than the D-stormbow post-mech, but the biggest thing about D-stormbow is that's it's *pre-mech*, and still a viable option post mech as well
I like to use the huntress armour with the explosive cane and cursed flame arrows, this allows some for some insane damage stacking that Absolutely melts plantera and golem
Another fun thing you can do to make the OOA a bit easier is making a hoik with a solid block and block swapping it with a platform, that way all the grounded enemies will be stuck at the hoik and the crystal will be safe from them. Not sure if the hoik also works on the Ogre, but it should still make the OOA a bit easier.
Yeah after finishing Terraria using melee, I feel like I got no other things to do afterwards because I'm containing myself to using only strong weapons mostly melee. Theres so much weapon I dont know and havent used yet that even after defeating moonlord I still enjoy playing it
the only time i've obtained this bow is when i did a summoner only run so it pretty much went straight into a dump chest. it's a good bow but the way to obtain it makes it at least 60% less valuable to me.
this actually has become one of my favorite weapons in the game i'm so happy to see a spotlight on it :) i recently went on my quest to tackle master mode and after beating the twins i just felt like there weren't any mage weapons that were motivating me. i went and did the army to give the tome of intellect(?) a try but i got this instead and opted to pivot to ranger instead of try and do the event again lol. it was a great decision cuz this thing just looks and feels so cool.
Old ones army weapons are seriously broken for their tier, the only reason they arent usually used in playthroughs is because of the hassle to obtain them
The Thunder Zapper is really underrated, it beat space gun, ruby staff, and only got beat by the aqua scepter after skeletron. It’s also obtainable pre-boss.
This Boh can carry you to moonlord in normal mode if anyone still plays normal mode. But in all seriousness, i always thought this boh was op and no one listened to me until i showed them, the ooa in master mode is very not nice to grind though, thankfully i usually get this first try.
I usually make a point of getting this weapon. It's great for crowd control regardless of ammo, something ranger is not great at, it's really cool, and I usually do the OOA anyway because I just like the event

I've used it before and I love the damage, the main issue it's the Ogre's RNG but other than that it's pretty damn good.

Maybe have a look at the Blade of Grass? I've found its 1.4.4 version to be quite an interesting pre-Hardmode weapon.
