Hey Bigdog, I got a very similar TLC 55s405, all LEDs light up when tested individually, how do I check the power board? or it is still possible to be a LED problem.
I have no idea why I just watched that whole video or how I ended up here, I don’t even have this TV. Or any TV for that matter. But that... was awesome.
I want to thank you, My 55" TCL/Roku TV went out last Friday, I went and bought a new TV, then I found your video and thought that looks like what is wrong with mine, I purchased an LED test and a set of light strips, I test and found the one strip was bad, I replaced all of the strips and my TV is working fine, used your video while repairing my TV to take it apart, was a very informative video in repairing my TV. Thank you very much !!!!!
I don’t often write reviews, but I am thankful for his RUclips video on replacing led backlights on a tcl tv. I followed his steps and warnings and was able to repair my tv when I was just about to throw it out. Awesome 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

@@desmoinesbeard8469 I agree. Be my luck I go through all of that work taking my TV apart and end up breaking the screen and have to toss it in the trash anyway.
I just put a new set of LED strips on a TCL I got for free. I figured if I replaced all of them, the repair would last longer. These TV's are easy to repair and people throw them away all the time. Good video.
I'm going to say thank you now because I don't know when I'll need this video. I have the same model, and the screen went dark (but you could see it if you held a flashlight to it). So I bought the replacement LEDs, laid it down on the table, opened up your video and started unscrewing... Just before I popped it apart I decided to plug it in, and the damn thing turned RIGHT back on. Brightest screen ever. It was dead for three weeks and just came back like nothing happened. Can't believe it. So I'm sure I'll need to do this eventually so I'm saving this video. Thank you for what you do.
Thanks for your instruction. I'm learning much. Just repaired my third TV. This is a new hobby my wife and I have picked up. Also doing my part to save something from hitting a landfill.

Amazing, never thought I'd be trying to replace a backlight but this video made it all possible. Got mine open and used a backlight tester (had no idea these even existed) to find the problem. Awesome video.
Dude, best info out there for this TV. My TV had this problem. I didn't pull out the multimeter or nothing. Because I couldn't find it... I just ordered all new LEDs for $30 watch your video and replaced it. It went really well even though I used phone holders that attach to your windshield for suction cups because that's also all I had laying around. Sometimes you just gotta improvise. But it worked out great in the end I replaced all the LEDs hung the TV back up turned it on, it works beautifully. I watched five different videos about this and yours is by far the best. Thank you sir!
I don't usually post comments on RUclips videos, except for the occasional wise ass comment trying to be funny, but big dog, your video helped me fix our 55 inch TCL tv. Well done sir.

Luckily I had suction cups from car dents but I removed led with trim tool instead of prying the bezel loose which resulted in having to glue or tape screen back to bezel. Thanks to video I was able to repair with a beautiful picture

Hey man, just wanted to say thank you so much for this walkthrough!!! Ive never opened up a tv before but was able to buy and replace my failed backlight for $35 with an LED kit from ebay. It’s not that difficult, just requires patience and attention to detail. I wrote down the steps as i went and placed all the screws and components in plastic baggies labelled with the step number. Just had to watch this video about 3 times. My 55S405 tcl roku tv is working again thanks to you! Appreciate the help!!
@@jbmorof if i remember correctly, i (gently) used my ryobi impact driver with a bit for tiny screws. One thing to note is the led strips slide to the side once the screws are loosened. I also have a small set of tiny screwdrivers but i think i used the driver.
Had this happen to my TV right before we left for traveling on Christmas after only 2 years of owning the TV. Stopped at the part of removing the screen as I do not have suction cups and do not want to risk bending it doing it by hand, but I have complete faith this will work when they come in on Tuesday. Definitely messed slightly as the WiFi wire came un-soldered from the ground plate when I tried to remove the chip, but thankfully that's quick and easy to fix in comparison to the rest of the disassembly. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge for us brave enough to try this on our own instead of trashing a fixable TV. It is most appreciated.
Very good presentation… I have the 55s425… nearly identical to the one you worked on here … it too comes on with no backlight … I actually replaced the power supply and the video board …. Then I remembered I have a similar led strip working and did the test in the dark and it’s actually coming on normal… just no backlight so I will replace the led strips …. I have no difficulty working on electronics… I Did however have to order a set of suction cup handles 😜… thanks for your hard work … much appreciated
Great Video! My Dad and I picked up a free 65" TCL TV that didn't work. The picture would flash for a second then turn off. We followed your video step by step. You are a great teacher. We replaced the backlights all together, and skipped the testing process like you did. That's just what we felt comfortable with. We did make a mistake however. While we reassembled the bezel to the screen, something must've been miss-aligned or we pushed too hard. We put 2 small cracks in the screen which distorted the image. The picture is alright, still better than no picture at all and not bad for only putting $80 into a 65" TV. Thanks for your help!
Mine died last week. I ordered the suction cups and the power gadget you are using to test with from Amazon. Should be here today. I hope my skills are sufficient :) Thanks for the video!
Thanks Bro. My 55 in TCL TV is only 2.5 years old. And it went black few days ago. Your video made it easy to change my LED backlights on my TCL 55 in. And now, TV is back to life. My TV is a TCL 55S405, and there is one slight difference in the disassembly: the screen is glued on the top part, which you touch on at 14:11. Got the LED lights and suction cups (strongly recommended) from an online store, for a total of $55.
Thanks man! This isn't quite the model I have, but you explained the LED voltage in a way I missed before. You have a way of making the information super easy to follow :)
Great Video....Running the backlight @ 100% will cause them to fail in a short time after factory warranty. Turn the backlight setting down to 65% and you wont overdrive and burn them out. Most TV's come with backlight factory preset to 100% out of the box.
I ran mine at like 30%...still died after 2.5 years. LEDs take 50K+ hours to die - I guarantee there is a heat/power issue, likely intentionally designed to fail right out of warranty, just like they do with LED lightbulbs that barely last longer than incandescent.
Thank you so much for this video! Definitely not an easy repair for a novice, but doable with your video. I got my strips replaced tonight. $32 for all 8. For the price, I took a chance it was the strips. My 2 1/2 year old TCL has a picture again!

Picked up one of these off the street. There was a note on it that said it was functional but needed a new backlight. $52 in new backlights later and I own my first ever TV, with only two small cracks in the corner because I didn't do a good job lining up the screen and I cracked it as I tried to reattach the bezel. Still, 2.5 hours and $52 is a pretty good deal, all things considered.
Big shout out to the big dog!!! After doing some reading I was 90% sure I had a bad LED. Im a little worried when iv taken my outer bezel off that i may of damaged the screen, im trying to fix my old one, and havent ordered my leds just yet, but could be pointless continuing if iv damaged my screen...please and thankyou
You would actually have to order the led strips and once you put screen on top of backlights you can really see then, otherwise use a brite flashlight behind the screen while holding screen up and move flashlight around. Otherwise if you think you cracked it, then U cracked it, you will see the line or crack in the screen.

Great to hear! Be sure to leave me a review at g.page/marc-anthony-tv-repair/review?gm. That would help me out a whole lot. Thanks again Aaron and have a very Merry Christmas!
What kind of LED did you use to replace it?
Great job! I was gonna try and save money by replacing myself but I see I should leave it for the professionals.
Great video. Gave me the confidence to try my hand at repairing a friends TV. Went very smooth and worked great afterwards.
Nice work!
My Roku was flashing on and off but still had the picture. This worked excellently! Thank you!
I was about to throw out mine which i think its this exact model. Gonna gove this little project a go! Thank you for making this content!
Omg!!! Thank you. I did this, no experience in TV repair. You saved me hundreds of dollars. A whole new set of L.E.D.'s cost $30 on ebay. Thank you!! You are awesome!
Nooo Problem! Glad I could Help.
Great Video. Fixed my tv because of this for 30$. Much appreciated Friend!
The repair shows the Voltages! Bravo!
Thanks for your well informed video, was going to throw out my 55" TCL, saw your video, got a used LED strip for $5 at local TV repair shop, followed your step by step instructions and it worked, couldn't believe it. Thanks again
I think my tv has the same problem would you recommend doing it myself? and if so what tools did you need. Thanks
Hi Bob and/or Marian, I'm curious, did you also have those 2 suction cups and if not, how did you remove the screen successfully without them? That's the only tool that I don't have.
@@jasonwarren270 yes I would do it yourself , I watched the RUclips video probably 6 or 7 times, only thing I had to buy was suction cups $3.99 at harbor freight
@@voicetube yes I bought two suction cups at harbor freight for $3.99 a piece
@@bobbrennan8653 okay, thanks for letting me know. What was the exact name of the devices (I doubt there called "suction cups?" As I was using that colloquially) and if you can give me the model number as well that would be cool. I'm sure others here might like to know as well. Thanks for your time :-)
Thanks Dude! It’s been driving me crazy. So many other videos aren’t addressing this problem. I turned it on and it flashed for a bit, I then took my bad ass Nebo flashlight and help it against the screen and I can see the Netflix and other app channels. It’s the back light! You rock. Now Idk if I’m going to try to fix it or get it fixed, but I will update you! You rock man!
trashed huh?
Thank you so much! Got my TV up and working again with this video and about $60 of parts.
Glad it helped
Hey man, I want to thank you for this video! I was able to fix my TV following your instructions.
Great video man, held a light up to screen and seen the tv worked. Thinking about buyn some LED replacements now. 🤠👌🏼
Geat video! Gonna take the plunge to fix my 65".
Love these people i love fixing phones android boxes all learnt of youtube while in lockdown good for me menthal health i found it 💯💯
Thanks for the video, it helped me fix mine instead of kicking it to the curb!
I will never in my life buy another tcl roku tv
Thank you for this. Followed this while fixing my back light. I just replaced the strip with the bad LED. Thank you again!
No problem. Thanks for watchin!
Where did u purchase the strip? I also wasn’t sure whether to buy a single LED or entire strip. Any info u can supply I would appreciate 🙏 thank u in advance 🙏
@@bdm408 Type in your brand and model number plus led backlights in google search.
My TV had the same problem with the LED backlight which I was about to give away. Then I came across this video.
I followed all your instructions & warnings. I was able to fix the TV. Now it's as good as new. 😍
You saved me a lot of money.
Thank you so much for this video. 😇
Thank you for showing me that it's better to buy a new one than fix it.
Had my tv for 2 years ig they don’t last long I can play Hulu with audio lol but no frames or anything these new smart TVs don’t last long kinda sucks and my warranty just expired last month to late to call now and ask lol
Im barely going to 5 months and its just turned block😪 ..yall know if it comes with manufacture warranty?
@@jzdh1949 one year warranty
It'd be worth fixing if you already had all of the tools. Of course, anybody who has them probably doesn't need this video.
hello could you say where can i buy the led and what is its specification thank you very much
I came home from work this morning and my baby wanted to watch cocomelon and couldn't get light but sound works and noticed picture extremely dark. I'm recovering from covid and just started back at my jobs this week and when caught up on other priorities I will definitely give this a go. Until then her cocomelon fix will come by phone or tablet
Great video bigdog8882. You do a great job explaining all the steps. I've got this problem with one of my TV's. I'll probably buy a new one and save this as a rainy day project for me and my son's.
Hi, Thanks for your video. Where can I buy the replacement LED from? do you have PN or the LED parameters to look for? I have the exact TV you were repairing.
They have it on eBay and Amazon just make sure it matches your tv model number
Hello I want to change the kit of led lights, could you tell me if they are the same lights as the thomson 55uc6406.?Thank you
Never worked on that particular model TV.
Thank you but it is that thomson makes it tcl is the same as this model, the same inside I think your video will help me to repair my tv. Thank you
Thank you this worked and customer service couldn’t get it to work. You the bomb.
This was very helpful, i have 65 inch Roku that has this same problem, now that I know what it is, this TV may have a chance of making it.
I have a 55in tcl and the screen will come on for a second then go black any idea already tried resetting it
Thank you so much for this! I had a black screen and used this video to change the backlights. It works now!
Very good explanation, thank you so much for this video 📸 , I'm trying to do it in a tv one of my costumer give me, I let you know how goes with your explanation for this cane problem this tv has.😮😮
Great video. Idk what is wrong with mine. I put a bright light to screen and don't see anything. When turning TV on it'll show the TV logo for a split second and fade to black 2 times then just stays black.
OMGSH, >> I Genuinely Thank You!!
I was moments away from sadly tossing my TV in the dumpster!! & gave this a try before I gave up...THIS WORKED 💯%
Thank you! I feel confident fixing my similar TCL TV that has the same issue. Very thorough explanation.
I have the same exact model what led lights do I get? From where
thanks for everything works properly. you gained a new follower.
Great video. Great detailed instructions. I followed step by step and got my TV up and running again. Thank you sir
You're welcome!
Awesome video do you have a link on where to buy the individual led's so pretty much 3v to 6v leds are interchangeable on different models of led straps?
Thank you so much for this! You are a rockstar!
Thank you so much bigdog! This is an excellent video. I followed the instructions step-by-step and you fixed my TV!!!! THX!!!!
DO you have a video for a TCL Roku 65-inch TV with the same problem? Mine has not worked for 3 days
My Roku lasted 4 years cant be to mad... time to get a new one, thanks for the video tho bro
Couldnt you do this checkup with any multimeter?
You need an led tester to power up the backlight strips. Its just a minature power supply.
I wish you lived near me! Lol. I can't even see the faint images of vudu, hulu, etc., so I must have some other issue! I will check your other videos. I really like how you are very thorough about describing what you are doing and why.
Well done sir! Top shelf repair work! Great video.
Thank you kindly
Got that 80s music, feel like mcgyver taking care of business again 💯
lol
I certainly enjoyed watching that, I have the exact TV, but mine doesn’t flash on the bottom. It is completely dead. Not sure if I should dive into it? Anyway, great video. Thanks much.
Greta video. Perfect detail. Thanks! 55" Vizio restored.
Thanks for the video! Is there a good source/model number on the replacement LEDs?
smd leds smd2832 or 3228. Or just get the strips off of ShopJimmy.com using the Model# of the Television.
@@bigdog8882 Thanks for the fast response! I'll look for the LED's locally, maybe ask a local shop, and if I cant get them in a lowish quantity, I'll probably just get the strip! Best to you, stay safe out there.
@@mdgnys Thanks for watching Bro!
@@bigdog8882 Do you have a discount or referral code for that website?
Great informative video! Appreciate you making this!
Hey bigdog. I am working an a 75' TCL looks pretty similar inside, my only issue is i cant seem to test the LED's like you are. do you have a video explaining the bench setup you have for testing diodes like that?
Love it! Really down to earth and honest. Thankyou!
Your very welcome Clive.
So unlike a crt, there is no chance of getting shocked when you take this thing apart unplugged?
Yeah, just keep your hand away from the primary side of the Power Supply!
So what I hear you saying is: "throw that piece of junk away and go buy another one". Correct?
Basically....cuz I ain’t finna do all this shit!
😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
I am moving far away from TCL
Hisense looks nice!!!!
@@synthesizerisking2886 No kidding. TCL is garbage. This is literally the third model I've had since the first two were replaced by the manufacturer due to defects, and now this one's screen is out. I won't touch another TCL product in my life.
@@nickcomposer yeah I just started having issues with my 32" model. It made it 6 years but still these backlight issues are bullshit considering I've seen Tv's last double that time easily.
@@Aetherion223 I figured 6 years for 400$ and I never turned it off. Good enough imo. I bought a another one for 400 but plan on returning it when I get the old one fixed
Dude is there a way to "test" the screen once its been ripped apart ?? Im a little worried when iv taken my outer bezel off that i may of damaged the screen, im trying to fix my old one, and havent ordered my leds just yet, but could be pointless continuing if iv damaged my screen...please and thankyou
You would actually have to order the led strips and once you put screen on top of backlights you can really see then, otherwise use a brite flashlight behind the screen while holding screen up and move flashlight around. Otherwise if you think you cracked it, then U cracked it, you will see the line or crack in the screen.
@@bigdog8882 ok dude thankyou, this is my 1st repair attempt, I do normally mess with electronics but tvs have always put me off..ok so the white diffuser sheet that's just over the leds, does it matter if that is creased?? I know you said don't rip it etc but what about creasing it, I'm trying a hisense r55b7120uk and I swear they've made it so you can't fix it, one side on the outer bezel was glued on, the white sheet underneath is held on with tape but it's soo hard to remove....I appreciate your work and this vid, otherwise I wouldn't of even attempted to do this one, 3 month out of warranty only 2 year old and leds went on it, wife bought a Samsung but I'm determined to fix this one lol...
Thank you for the video. I took notes, drew pictures, marked on my notes the spots where I need to take a pic before removing things. I will be marking things at the bottom left (of the TV as seen from the back). The note about four LEDs on one strip vs. five on the other was also helpful.
Thank you!
What are you using @ 5:00 to supply power?
I have this same TV. Mine is sending 47v DC to each set of strips and neither is lighting up. Ideas?
I have a 55 S405 with the backlight issue. I also got the tester and plan to do the work. Do I just replace the bad strip? or all of them.
So I replaced the leds on mine and when I put it all together it lit up but no picture. Do you think it could be the filters not in the right order?
